Statement Of Problem: Providing a removable partial denture (RPD) can be a complex, time-consuming, and error-prone procedure. Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) techniques have shown promising clinical outcomes; however, the influence of manufacturing techniques on the properties of RPD components is unclear.

Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review was to determine the accuracy and mechanical properties of RPD components fabricated with conventional and digital methods.

An Innovative Cloud-Fog-Based Smart Grid Scheme for Efficient Resource Utilization.

Smart grids (SGs) enhance the effectiveness, reliability, resilience, and energy-efficient operation of electrical networks. Nonetheless, SGs suffer from big data transactions which limit their capabilities and can cause delays in the optimal operation and management tasks. Therefore, it is clear that a fast and reliable architecture is needed to make big data management in SGs more efficient.

Case report of a criminal dismemberment in Northeast Brazil.

Several decomposed body parts were received for examination by the Forensic Anthropology section of the Medico-legal Institute of João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil. The portions of the lower and upper limbs, ribs, vertebrae, and a skull were thoroughly examined. The biological profile indicated a male individual with an estimated age range between 23 and 57 years and a mean age of 35.

Effectiveness of thiazide and thiazide-like diuretics in advanced chronic kidney disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background And Objective: Thiazide diuretics are first-line drugs for the treatment of hypertension, but hypertension treatment guidelines have systematically discouraged their use in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD). For the first time, a systematic review and random-effects meta-analysis were performed to assess the effectiveness of thiazides and thiazide-like diuretics to treat hypertension in patients with stages 3b, 4, and 5 CKD.

Design, Setting, Participants, & Measurements: A systematic review and random-effects meta-analysis that included a literature search using the following databases were performed: MEDLINE through PubMed, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR) and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) through the Cochrane Library, Embase, and ISI - Web of Science (all databases).

2022: Position of Brazilian Diabetes Society on exercise recommendations for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Introduction: For individuals diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, the practice of properly oriented physical exercises brings significant benefits to the individual's health and is considered an indispensable tool for metabolic management. The individualization of exercise routines is an essential aspect for therapeutic success, despite the need to consider some general recommendations. This review is an authorized literal translation of the Brazilian Society of Diabetes (SBD) Guidelines 2021-2022, which is based on scientific evidence and provides guidance on physical activities and exercises aimed at individuals with type 1 and 2 diabetes.

Identification of Novel Zika Virus Inhibitors: A Screening using Thiosemicarbazones and Thiazoles Templates.

Background: Zika virus (ZIKV) remains an important cause of congenital infection, fetal microcephaly, and Guillain-Barré syndrome in the population. In 2016, WHO declared a cluster of microcephaly cases and other neurological disorders reported as a global public health emergency in Brazil. There is still no specific treatment for Zika virus fever, only palliative care.

Potential role of circulating miR-21 in the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: Identify original articles that analyzed the diagnostic value of miR-21 in hepatocellular carcinoma without language restriction or publication date.

Methodology: We performed structured searches on PubMed, Web of Science, VHL, and EMBASE. The Standard Quality Assessment Criteria for Evaluating Primary Research Papers from a Variety of Fields was used to assess the quality of each study.

Heart failure (HF) is a prevalent clinical syndrome that causes significant physical limitations. Osteoporosis is also an important cause of loss of functionality, and it mainly affects women. There are several reports linking HF and osteoporosis, and both share risk factors.

Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing with Elastic Resistance: A New Reproducible Proposal for Determination of Ventilatory Thresholds and Maximum Oxygen Consumption.

To propose a new Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test with Elastic Resistance (CPxEL) and compare the physiological responses to conventional cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPx) performed on a treadmill. In addition, we tested the reproducibility of the CPxEL. Twenty-four physically active participants completed the CPx (first session) and CPxEL twice (second and third sessions) interspersed by seven days.

Heart Disease and Arboviruses: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Dengue fever, chikungunya, and zika are highly prevalent arboviruses transmitted by hematophagous arthropods, with a widely neglected impact in developing countries. These diseases cause acute illness in diverse populations, as well as potential cardiovascular complications. A systematic review was carried out to investigate the burden of cardiac involvement related to these arboviruses.

Synthesis and Evaluation of Antiproliferative Activity, Topoisomerase IIα Inhibition, DNA Binding and Non-Clinical Toxicity of New Acridine-Thiosemicarbazone Derivatives.

In this study, we report the synthesis of twenty new acridine-thiosemicarbazone derivatives and their antiproliferative activities. Mechanisms of action such as the inhibition of topoisomerase IIα and the interaction with DNA have been studied for some of the most active derivatives by means of both in silico and in vitro methods, and evaluations of the non-clinical toxicities (in vivo) in mice. In general, the compounds showed greater cytotoxicity against B16-F10 cells, with the highest potency for DL-08 (IC = 14.

Changes in Physical Functioning and Fall-Related Factors in Older Adults Due to COVID-19 Social Isolation.

Background: Social isolation has been one of the main measures for the prevention of COVID-19. It's possible that, in addition to the natural aging-related deficits, social isolation has accelerated the decline of the different components of physical and mental capacity in older adults. This study aimed to compare the functional capacity and concern about falling in older adults before and during COVID-19 social isolation.

Influence of diet and red wine exposure on the velocity of at home bleaching: A randomized controlled clinical trial.

Purpose: To evaluate the influence of diet and exposure to red wine on the treatment velocity, clinical results, postoperative tooth sensitivity, and patient satisfaction after tooth bleaching.

Methods: 45 subjects undergoing home bleaching with 16% carbamide peroxide (CP) were randomly separated into three groups, depending on the restriction of colored food and the use of a red wine mouthwash. Shades of teeth 11 and 21 were assessed using a digital spectrophotometer (VITA Easy Shade) at T0 (before treatment), T7 (7 days after treatment), T15 (15 days after treatment), and T30 (30 days after treatment).

Biaxial flexure strength and physicochemical characterization of a CAD/CAM lithium disilicate ceramic: effect of etching time, silane, and adhesive applications.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of different acid etching time and bonding agent (silane and/or adhesive system) on biaxial flexural strength and physico-chemical properties of a lithium disilicate ceramic.

Material And Methods: One hundred twenty ceramic discs were made and divided into 8 groups (n = 15) according to factors "etching time" (20 and 120 s) with hydrofluoric acid (HF) and "bonding agent" (C, no bonding agent; S, silane, A, adhesive; and SA, silane + adhesive). After surface treatment, a resin cement layer was applied to the surface and all specimens were subjected to biaxial flexural strength (BFS) test with treated surfaces loaded in tension (1 mm/min).

Two Years into the COVID-19 Pandemic: Lessons Learned.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a highly transmissible and virulent human-infecting coronavirus that emerged in late December 2019 in Wuhan, China, causing a respiratory disease called coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which has massively impacted global public health and caused widespread disruption to daily life. The crisis caused by COVID-19 has mobilized scientists and public health authorities across the world to rapidly improve our knowledge about this devastating disease, shedding light on its management and control, and spawned the development of new countermeasures. Here we provide an overview of the state of the art of knowledge gained in the last 2 years about the virus and COVID-19, including its origin and natural reservoir hosts, viral etiology, epidemiology, modes of transmission, clinical manifestations, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, emerging variants, and vaccines, highlighting important differences from previously known highly pathogenic coronaviruses.

Genetic polymorphisms of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-10 in female elderly patients with chronic temporomandibular disorder pain.

Aim: To verify the association of the TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-10 polymorphisms with chronic temporomandibular disorder pain development in female elderly patients.

Methods: Participants were evaluated according to Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders. The genomic DNA was extracted from blood according to the Salting Out method followed by a quantification using the NanoDrop spectrophotometer.

The IL-22 pathway has been shown to play an important role in the pathogenesis of liver fibrosis. However, little is known about the role of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in IL-22-related genes in relation to the severity of liver fibrosis. This study aimed to investigate the association of polymorphisms in and genes with the severity of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C.

Characteristics of residency programs and residents' learning experience in Brazil: a multispecialty, nation-wide study.

Factors associated with the optimal physician resident learning are yet to be fully understood. We aimed to correlate the characteristics of residency programs with the learning perception of residents. This was a cross-sectional study using an online structured questionnaire published on social networks, enrolling physician residents from almost all specialties in Brazil.

Activation of upper limb muscles in subjects with scapular dyskinesis during bench-press and dumbbell fly on stable and unstable surfaces.

Background: Scapular dyskinesis has been associated with shoulder dysfunctions, and changes in electromyographic (EMG) activity have been reported during the execution of some exercises.

Objective: To compare upper limb muscles EMG of asymptomatic subjects with and without scapular dyskinesis during bench-press and dumbbell fly exercise performed on different surface stability conditions.

Methods: Twenty-eight physically active men were allocated into two groups: Control group (n= 14) and Dyskinesis group (n= 14).

Patient-reported outcome measures and prosthetic events in implant-supported mandibular overdenture patients after immediate versus delayed loading: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Statement Of Problem: Immediately loaded mandibular overdentures are clinically acceptable treatment options that have gained popularity because their use shortens the treatment duration. However, whether the immediate loading of dental implants can match the prosthetic events, satisfaction, and quality of life of delayed loading is still unclear.

Background: Psychological distress is common among medical trainees. This study aimed to assess the frequency of depression, anxiety and burnout among physician residents and their association with both individual and residency program-related factors.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study applying an online survey in a national-wide sample of medical residents from Brazil.
