Objective: Ampullary neoplastic lesions can be resected by endoscopic papillectomy (EP) or transduodenal surgical ampullectomy (TSA) while pancreaticoduodenectomy is reserved for more advanced lesions. We present the largest retrospective comparative study analysing EP and TSA.
Design: Of all patients in the database, lesions with prior interventions, benign histology advanced malignancy (T2 and more), patients with hereditary syndromes and those undergoing pancreatoduodenectomy were excluded.

Increasing evidence exists that the gut microbiome influences toxicity as well as outcomes in a variety of cancers. To investigate the role of the gut microbiome in pediatric neuro-oncology, microbiome analysis has been included in multiple prospective pediatric neuro-oncology clinical trials (NCT05009992, NCT04732065, NCT04775485). In these trials, the OMNIgene-GUT preservation tubes are used for the collection of the feces.

We performed a multi-population genome-wide association study of 363,460 men in the United Kingdom BioBank and FinnGen cohorts. We identified 6,548 adult men with hydrocele.

Despite advancements in gender representation, female anesthesiologists continue to encounter challenges in career advancement that may be further impacted by motherhood. This scoping review examines personal and systemic barriers and facilitators to career advancement for anesthesiologists facing infertility, pregnancy, and childcare. The review identified 22 relevant studies across five themes: the timing of pregnancy and parental leave, breastfeeding and lactation needs, childcare and gender norms, job reentry and career advancement opportunities, and work-life balance and physician well-being.

Transplanted islet functional β-cell mass is measured by the β-cell secretory capacity derived from the acute insulin response to glucose-potentiated arginine (AIRpot), however, data are limited beyond one-year post-transplant for individuals with type 1 diabetes. We evaluated changes in β-cell secretory capacity in a single-center longitudinal analysis and examined relationships with measures of islet cell hormone metabolism and clinical measures of graft function (mixed-meal tolerance test [MMTT] C-peptide, BETA-2 score, and continuous glucose monitoring [CGM]). Eleven individuals received purified human pancreatic islets over one or two intra-portal infusions to achieve insulin-independence and were followed over a median (IQR) 6 (5-7) years.

Introduction: Associations between cardiometabolic comorbidities and self-reported oral health (OH) are often underexplored in large biobank datasets. While these associations are unaffected by dental care access, they could be mediated by immune responses and inflammation.
Objectives: This study assessed the associations between cardiometabolic comorbidities and self-reported OH, periodontitis, and tooth loss using the (ICD) codes in participants from the U.

Background: Antenatal iron and folic acid (IFA) supplementation remains an effective strategy in the prevention of maternal anemia and low birthweight and is universally recommended by WHO. However, uptake of IFA has varied globally due to challenges with acceptability, supply and distribution, counselling and knowledge, and access to health services. In Botswana, nearly one-third of pregnant women engaged in antenatal care do not receive IFA, despite it being standard of care.

PCST has been shown to be effective in racially and ethnically diverse cohorts across several chronic medical conditions. However, PCST has not been evaluated in those with end stage kidney disease (ESKD) receiving in-center maintenance hemodialysis.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify successful recruitment strategies and obstacles reported by principal investigators (PIs) of the Zoster Eye Disease Study (ZEDS).
Methods: A web-based survey was created by a subset of ZEDS PIs and distributed to ZEDS PIs after study enrollment was closed. The survey queried investigators about recruitment strategies and obstacles, use of prophylactic oral antiviral medication, electronic medical records, telemedicine, COVID-19 effect, turnover of research staff, and recruitment outreach to minority and underserved populations.
