The aim of this study was to examine the effects of 8 weeks of plyometric training on the ability to change direction and postural control in female basketball players. 25 national level female basketball players aged 18-27 years participated in the study. Volunteers were randomly assigned to an experimental group ( = 13) who replaced a part of their standard regimen by plyometric training twice weekly for 8 weeks, and a control group ( = 12) who continued their usual in-season training program.

It has been recognized that the microporosity of shale organic matter, especially that of kerogen, strongly affects the hydrocarbon recovery process from unconventional reservoirs. So far, the numerical studies on hydrocarbon transport through the microporous phase of kerogen have neglected the effect of poromechanics, that is, the adsorption-induced deformations, by considering kerogen as a frozen, nondeformable, matrix. Here, we use molecular dynamics simulations to investigate methane diffusion in an immature (i.

The Sr/Sr ratio and Sr concentrations of 43 authentic Bordeaux wines from the world's most prestigious châteaux are presented in the context of their relation to the geographical origin of wine and authenticity. The results demonstrate relatively narrow spans of variabilities observed for Sr/Sr ratio and Sr concentrations in authentic Bordeaux wines, which can be used with reasonable certainty as specific parameters for identifying regional wineries. For comparison, a set of imitated Bordeaux wines was studied for Sr isotopic and elemental compositions.

Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved process of cellular self-eating which emerged these last years as a major adaptive metabolic response to various stresses such as fasting, hypoxia, or environmental pollutants. However, surprisingly very few data is currently available on its role in fish species which are directly exposed to frequent environmental perturbations. Here, we report that the treatment of fasted trout hepatocytes with the autophagy inhibitor Bafilomycine A1 lowered the mRNA levels of many of the gluconeogenesis-related genes and increased those of genes involved in intracellular lipid stores.

Peptides of natural and synthetic sources are compounds operating in a wide range of biological interactions. They play a key role in biotechnological applications as both therapeutic and diagnostic tools. They are easily synthesized thanks to solid-phase peptide devices where the amino acid sequence can be exactly selected at molecular levels, by tuning the basic units.

The rapid development of aquaculture production throughout the world over the past few decades has led to the emergence of new scientific challenges to improve fish nutrition. The diet formulations used for farmed fish have been largely modified in the past few years. However, bottlenecks still exist in being able to suppress totally marine resources (fish meal and fish oil) in diets without negatively affecting growth performance and flesh quality.

Fasting influences the overall physiology of fish, and the knowledge how the gut microbiota, growth performances, and immune function in response to intermittent and long-term fasting is still insufficient. Here, we characterized the effects of fasting on the host-gut microbiota in crucian carp, which would enhance our insight into physiological adaptation to fasting. To achieve this, we investigated the gut microbial communities of crucian carp with different fasting stress, and corresponding immune and growth parameters.

External supports that reduce ankle joint mobility such as ski-boots can impair postural control of healthy participants. Although this disruptive effect has been attributed to the rigidity of the external supports, the results remained controversial and no study has been conducted in order to evaluate the influence of ski-boots rigidity. Hence, the question about the influence of ankle support rigidity on postural control remains open.

Metallic lithium is considered to be one of the most promising anode materials since it offers high volumetric and gravimetric energy densities when combined with high-voltage or high-capacity cathodes. However, the main impediment to the practical applications of metallic lithium is its unstable solid electrolyte interface (SEI), which results in constant lithium consumption for the formation of fresh SEI, together with lithium dendritic growth during electrochemical cycling. Here we present the electrochemical performance of a fluorinated reduced graphene oxide interlayer (FGI) on the metallic lithium surface, tested in lithium symmetrical cells and in combination with two different cathode materials.

Aims: Increasing attention has been attracted to intestinal microbiota, due to interactions with nutrition, metabolism and immune defence of the host. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) feed additives have been applied in aquaculture to improve fish health, but the interaction with fish gut microbiota is still poorly understood. This study aimed to explore the effect of adding TCM in feed on the intestinal microbiota of gibel carp (Carassius auratus gibelio).

With the advent of graphene material, membranes based on single-layer nanoporous solids appear as promising devices for fluid separation, be it liquid or gaseous mixtures. The design of such architectured porous materials would greatly benefit from accurate models that can predict their transport and separation properties. More specifically, there is no universal understanding of how parameters such as temperature, fluid loading conditions, or the ratio of the pore size to the fluid molecular diameter influence the permeation process.

The computation of diffusion coefficients in molecular systems ranks among the most useful applications of equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. However, when dealing with the problem of fluid diffusion through vanishingly thin interfaces, classical techniques are not applicable. This is because the volume of space in which molecules diffuse is ill-defined.

Although motor output of the postural function clearly influences postural performance in young and older subjects, no relationship has been formally established between them. However, the relationship between lower-extremity muscle strength/power and postural performance is often pointed out, especially in older subjects. In fact, the influence of motor output may vary according to the postural condition considered (e.

The characterization of the aerosol (size, composition, and concentration) generated by Laser Ablation is of great interest due to its impact on the analytical performances when coupled to Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICPMS). The capabilities of High Resolution ICPMS as a direct tool to characterize nanoparticles produced by femtosecond Laser Ablation of pure copper are presented. An analytical protocol, similar to the "single particle ICPMS" technique used to characterize the size distribution of nanoparticles in solution, was developed in order to observe the signals of individual particles produced by a single ablation shot.
