A number of neurotoxicity associated with oncological treatments has been reported in non-central nervous system cancers. An expert group presents the state of the art and a guide to help the choice of appropriated tools to assess patient cognition in studies on oncology and neurobehavior in animal models. In addition, current cognitive rehabilitation programs currently under evaluation are also discussed.

Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Targeted Anticancer Protein Kinase Inhibitors in Routine Clinical Use: A Critical Review.

Background: Therapeutic response to oral targeted anticancer protein kinase inhibitors (PKIs) varies widely between patients, with insufficient efficacy of some of them and unacceptable adverse reactions of others. There are several possible causes for this heterogeneity, such as pharmacokinetic (PK) variability affecting blood concentrations, fluctuating medication adherence, and constitutional or acquired drug resistance of cancer cells. The appropriate management of oncology patients with PKI treatments thus requires concerted efforts to optimize the utilization of these drug agents, which have probably not yet revealed their full potential.

Acceptability of HIV self-testing in African students: a cross-sectional survey in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Introduction: The empowerment of young people aged 15-24 years is a key component of an effective AIDS response. HIV self-testing (HIVST) is progressively being implemented in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Methods: Socio-demographic and behavioural factors associated with acceptability of HIVST were evaluated among university students in Bunia, DRC.

Vasodilators and low-dose acetylsalicylic acid are associated with a lower incidence of distinct primary myocardial disease manifestations in systemic sclerosis: results of the DeSScipher inception cohort study.

Objectives: To investigate the influence of vasodilator drugs on the occurrence of features depending on myocardial ischaemia/fibrosis (ventricular arrhythmias, Q waves, cardiac blocks, pacemaker implantation, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) <55%, and/or congestive heart failure and sudden cardiac death) in systemic sclerosis (SSc).

Methods: 601 patients with SSc were enrolled from 1 December 2012 to 30 November 2015 and had a second visit 0.5-4 years apart.

For the last couple of decades, natural products, either applied singly or in conjunction with other cancer therapies including chemotherapy and radiotherapy, have allowed us to combat different types of human cancers through the inhibition of their initiation and progression. The principal sources of these useful compounds are isolated from plants that were described in traditional medicines for their curative potential. Leelamine, derived from the bark of pine trees, was previously reported as having a weak agonistic effect on cannabinoid receptors and limited inhibitory effects on pyruvate dehydrogenase kinases (PDKs).

Valvular heart disease and calcification in CKD: more common than appreciated.

Ischaemic heart disease, sudden cardiac death and arrhythmias, heart failure, stroke and peripheral arterial disease make up >50% of the causes of death in advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD). Calcification of the vascular tree and heart valves is partially related to these complications and has received growing attention in the literature. However, the main focus of research has been on the pathophysiology and consequences of vascular calcification, with less attention being paid to valvular calcification (VC) and its impact on the survival of CKD patients.

Gastric cancer (GC) is a highly heterogeneous disease and one of the major causes of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Diffuse-type gastric adenocarcinoma (or poorly cohesive- with independent cells) is characterized by aggressive behavior (rapid invasion, chemoresistance and peritoneal metastasis), as compared with intestinal-subtype adenocarcinoma. Diffuse subtype GC additionally has a substantially increasing incidence rate in Europe and the USA, and was often associated with younger age.

Background: Aquablation has emerged as a novel ablative therapy combining image guidance and robotics for targeted waterjet adenoma resection.

Objective: To describe a standardised technique of aquablation in the treatment of benign prostatic obstruction (BPO), and to report the perioperative and 1-yr functional outcomes obtained by multiple surgeons with no previous experience of the technique.

Design, Setting, And Participants: Between September 2017 and January 2018, patients referred to three different urological centres for BPO surgical management were prospectively enrolled to undergo an aquablation procedure.

Seroprevalence of Hepatitis E virus infection in children after liver transplantation: A single-center experience in France.

Introduction: Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a major cause of acute viral hepatitis worldwide, usually asymptomatic in children. However, a growing number of publications over the last decade have documented cases of chronic hepatitis related to HEV-genotype 3 infection, and progressing to cirrhosis in immuno-compromised patients, particularly in adult kidney transplant recipients. The aim of our study was to evaluate the prevalence and severity of HEV infection among pediatric liver transplant (PLT) recipients managed in our center.

Early discharge in selected patients with low-grade renal trauma.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to assess whether early discharge could be non-inferior to inpatient management in selected patients with low-grade renal trauma (AAST grades 1-3).

Materials And Methods: A retrospective national multicenter study was conducted including all patients who presented with renal trauma at 17 hospitals between 2005 and 2015. Exclusion criteria were iatrogenic and AAST grades 4 and 5 trauma, non-conservative initial management, Hb < 10 g/dl or transfusion within the first 24 h, and patients with concomitant injuries.

A haemodialysis patient with periprosthetic fractures and a history of corticosteroid use was referred for assessment for bone mineral disorders. Mixed renal osteodystrophy was diagnosed following a bone biopsy. Correction for vitamin D insufficiency did not improve the clinical signs, which prompted a potential diagnosis of hypophosphataemic osteomalacia to be considered.

Fabry disease is an X-linked inherited, progressive disorder of lipid metabolism resulting from the deficient activity of the enzyme α-galactosidase. Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with recombinant agalsidase, with intravenous infusions of either agalsidase beta or agalsidase alfa, is available and clinical experience now exceeds 15 years. There are very few randomised, placebo-controlled clinical trials evaluating the outcomes of ERT.

A preoperative nomogram to predict major complications after robot assisted partial nephrectomy (UroCCR-57 study).

Objective: To generate a nomogram based on preoperative parameters to predict the occurrence of a major complication within 30-days of robotic partial nephrectomy.

Materials And Methods: The study included 1,342 patients with a clinically localized renal tumor who underwent robotic partial nephrectomy (RPN) between 2010 and 2017 at 7 academic centers. The primary outcome was the major complication rate.

Exposure to Citalopram Mitigates Maternal Stress Effects on Fetal Brain Development.

Human epidemiological and animal-model studies suggest that separate exposure to stress or serotonin-selective reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants during pregnancy increases risks for neurodevelopmental disorders in offspring. Yet, little is known about the combined effects of maternal stress and SSRIs with regard to brain development . We found that the placenta is highly permeable to the commonly prescribed SSRI (±)-citalopram (CIT) in humans and mice, allowing rapid exposure of the fetal brain to this drug.

Regulation of hepatokine gene expression in response to fasting and feeding: Influence of PPAR-α and insulin-dependent signalling in hepatocytes.

Aim: In hepatocytes, the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-α and insulin receptor (IR) are critical for transcriptional responses to fasting and feeding, respectively. The present report analyzes the effects of nutritional status (fasting vs feeding) on the expression of a large panel of hepatokines in hepatocyte-specific PPAR-α (Pparα) and IR (IR) null mice.

Methods: Pparα and IR mice, and their wild-type littermates, were subjected to fasting or feeding metabolic challenges, then analyzed for hepatokine gene expression.

Background: Anarchic and poorly controlled urbanization led to an increased risk of mosquito-borne diseases (MBD) in many African cities. Here, we evaluate the spatial heterogeneity of human exposure to malaria and arboviral disease vectors in an urban area of northern Senegal, using antibody-based biomarkers of exposure to Anopheles and Aedes mosquito bites.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was undertaken during the rainy season of 2014 in 4 neighborhoods of Saint-Louis, a city in northern Senegal.

Use of vasoactive/vasodilating drugs for systemic sclerosis (SSc)-related digital ulcers (DUs) in expert tertiary centres: results from the analysis of the observational real-life DeSScipher study.

Introduction: DeSScipher is the first European multicentre study on management of systemic sclerosis (SSc), and its observational trial 1 (OT1) evaluated the efficacy of different drugs for digital ulcer (DU) prevention and healing. The aim of this study was to assess current use of vasoactive/vasodilating agents for SSc-related DU in the expert centres by analysing the baseline data of the DeSScipher OT1.

Method: Baseline characteristics of patients enrolled in the OT1 and data regarding DU were analysed.
