Assessment of search strategies in Medline to identify studies on the impact of long COVID on workability.

Objectives: Studies on the impact of long COVID on work capacity are increasing but are difficult to locate in bibliographic databases, due to the heterogeneity of the terms used to describe this new condition and its consequences. This study aims to report on the effectiveness of different search strategies to find studies on the impact of long COVID on work participation in PubMed and to create validated search strings.

Methods: We searched PubMed for articles published on Long COVID and including information about work.

Gestational diabetes mellitus in Cameroon: prevalence, risk factors and screening strategies.

Background: The burden of gestational diabetes (GDM) and the optimal screening strategies in African populations are yet to be determined. We assessed the prevalence of GDM and the performance of various screening tests in a Cameroonian population.

Methods: We carried out a cross-sectional study involving the screening of 983 women at 24-28 weeks of pregnancy for GDM using serial tests, including fasting plasma (FPG), random blood glucose (RBG), a 1-hour 50g glucose challenge test (GCT), and standard 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).

In this study, we report the identification and expression of a new isoform splice variant of the tyrosine kinase receptor AXL in MCL cells. This new AXL isoform, called AXL3, lacks the ligand-binding domain of the commonly described AXL splice variants and is constitutively activated in MCL cells.

In this work, we used a multidisciplinary framework to characterize the genetic and phenotypic differentiation between and within two cryptic ant species with restricted dispersal, Cataglyphis cursor and C. piliscapa and used behavioral experiments to test for reproductive isolation.

Reliability of citations of medRxiv preprints in articles published on COVID-19 in the world leading medical journals.

Introduction: Preprints have been widely cited during the COVID-19 pandemics, even in the major medical journals. However, since subsequent publication of preprint is not always mentioned in preprint repositories, some may be inappropriately cited or quoted. Our objectives were to assess the reliability of preprint citations in articles on COVID-19, to the rate of publication of preprints cited in these articles and to compare, if relevant, the content of the preprints to their published version.

Microbiome and metabolome features of the cardiometabolic disease spectrum.

Previous microbiome and metabolome analyses exploring non-communicable diseases have paid scant attention to major confounders of study outcomes, such as common, pre-morbid and co-morbid conditions, or polypharmacy. Here, in the context of ischemic heart disease (IHD), we used a study design that recapitulates disease initiation, escalation and response to treatment over time, mirroring a longitudinal study that would otherwise be difficult to perform given the protracted nature of IHD pathogenesis. We recruited 1,241 middle-aged Europeans, including healthy individuals, individuals with dysmetabolic morbidities (obesity and type 2 diabetes) but lacking overt IHD diagnosis and individuals with IHD at three distinct clinical stages-acute coronary syndrome, chronic IHD and IHD with heart failure-and characterized their phenome, gut metagenome and serum and urine metabolome.

Management of patients with inherited bleeding disorders in oral surgery: A 13-year experience.

Introduction: The management of patients with inherited bleeding disorders in oral surgery requires the systematic evaluation of bleeding risk and the setting up of an adequate treatment protocol by the referring haematologist, defining a replacement therapy and a recommended length of hospital stay. The purpose of this study was to determine the bleeding risk associated with oral surgery for each type of inherited bleeding disorder and to evaluate the efficacy of the treatment protocols set up in our tertiary care center.

Materials And Methods: We included all patients with an inherited bleeding disorder, managed in our oral and maxillofacial surgery department with a treatment protocol set up by our local Haemophilia Treatment Centre for an oral surgical procedure.

Combinatorial, additive and dose-dependent drug-microbiome associations.

During the transition from a healthy state to cardiometabolic disease, patients become heavily medicated, which leads to an increasingly aberrant gut microbiome and serum metabolome, and complicates biomarker discovery. Here, through integrated multi-omics analyses of 2,173 European residents from the MetaCardis cohort, we show that the explanatory power of drugs for the variability in both host and gut microbiome features exceeds that of disease. We quantify inferred effects of single medications, their combinations as well as additive effects, and show that the latter shift the metabolome and microbiome towards a healthier state, exemplified in synergistic reduction in serum atherogenic lipoproteins by statins combined with aspirin, or enrichment of intestinal Roseburia by diuretic agents combined with beta-blockers.

Alkali borated bioactive glasses powders with compositions based on the SiO-NaO-CaO-PO-x BO system (0 < x < 20 wt%); have been consolidated at low temperature using Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS). Through SPS technique under 50 MPa, it was possible to achieve fully dense and completely amorphous borated glasses at temperatures as low as 420 °C. By increasing the sintering temperature up to 430 °C, the dense samples crystallized which is mostly achieved at higher temperatures.

Objective: To estimate the capacity of European countries to integrate palliative care (PC) into their health systems through PC service provision for patients of all ages, with different care needs and diseases, in various settings and by a range of providers.

Methods: Secondary analysis of survey data from 51 countries with 22 indicators explored the integration of available PC resources for children, for patients of all ages, at the primary care level, for oncology and cardiac patients, and in long-term care facilities. Solution structure of the anticancer p28 peptide in biomimetic medium.

The p28 peptide derived from Pseudomonas aeruginosa azurin shows an anticancer activity after binding to p53 protein and is currently in Phase I of clinical trials. We have studied its structure in water and in a biomimetic media and show that the peptide is unstructured in water but when studied in a biomimetic medium assumes a structure very similar to the one observed in azurin, suggesting a high propensity of this peptide to maintain this secondary structure. Analysis of p28 sequences from different bacterial species indicates conservation of the secondary structure despite amino acid replacement in different positions, suggesting that others, similar peptides could be tested for binding to p53.
