This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of synthetic coumarins Staphylococcus aureus in vitro and analyze their interaction with the MepA efflux pump in silico.

The aim of this study was to investigate the association of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and the DNA methylation profiles of the DNA methyltransferase () gene family with oral mucositis in children and adolescents with hematologic malignancies treated with methotrexate (MTX). The population was comprised of healthy and oncopediatric patients aged between 4 and 19 years. An evaluation of oral conditions was performed using the Oral Assessment Guide.

Oxidative stability of white striping chicken breasts: effect of cold storage and heat treatments.

This study aimed to investigate the level of lipid and protein oxidation in poultry breasts with severe white striping (WS; striation thickness > 1 mm) and nonaffected meats (N; normal breast) during storage under refrigeration (1°C for 14 d) and freezing (-18°C for 90 d). WS presented higher lipid content, although no difference in protein content was detected, compared to normal broiler breast (N). Regarding oxidative damages, a reduction in malondialdehyde and carbonyl protein, hexanal, octanal and nonanal levels, alongside the interaction of these compounds with other compounds in raw, roasted, and reheated breasts was observed under refrigerated storage (14 d).

Extra virgin coconut oil ( L.) intake shows neurobehavioural and intestinal health effects in obesity-induced rats.

The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of E-VCO on the neurobehaviour and intestinal health parameters of obesity-induced rats, focusing on food consumption, body composition, bacterial and faecal organic acids and histological analyses in the hippocampus and colon. A total of 32 male Wistar rats were randomized into healthy (HG, = 16) and obese groups (OG, = 16), which consumed a control or cafeteria diet for eight weeks, respectively. After this period, they were subdivided into four groups: healthy (HG, = 8); healthy treated with E-VCO (HGCO, = 8); obese (OG, = 8); obese treated with E-VCO (OGCO, = 8), continuing for another eight weeks with their respective diets.

Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) as a promising tool in pharmaceutical nanotechnology.

Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) is a technique for evaluating the thermodynamic profiles of connection between two molecules, allowing the experimental design of nanoparticles systems with drugs and/or biological molecules. Taking into account the relevance of ITC, we conducted, therefore, an integrative revision of the literature, from 2000 to 2023, on the main purposes of using this technique in pharmaceutical nanotechnology. The search were carried out in the Pubmed, Sciencedirect, Web of Science, and Scifinder databases using the descriptors "Nanoparticles", "Isothermal Titration Calorimetry", and "ITC".

Shoulder Performance Activity Test (SPAT) for People With Shoulder Pain: Feasibility, Reliability, and Validity.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess feasibility, reliability, and validity of a new performance-based test, the Shoulder Performance Activity Test (SPAT).

Methods: People with shoulder pain (n = 93) and without shoulder pain (n = 43) were included. The SPAT consists of overhead reach, hand behind head, and hand behind back tasks, each performed with 20 repetitions and rated by time, pain, and effort.

Objective: To compare the cortical auditory evoked potential responses pre-and post-Auditory Musical Training associated with hearing aid adaptation in elderly people with presbycusis.

Design: This is a pilot, prospective, randomized, single-blind study.

Study Sample: Eight presbiacusis elderly people between 65 and 80 years, new hearing aid users, divided into two groups participated in the study: Hearing Aid Group: use of hearing aid; and Auditory Training Group: use of hearing aid in addition to musical auditory training for 16 sessions.

Its functional characteristics are related to its high content of anthocyanins, which, when isolated, are highly unstable, limiting their applications. The present research proposed to obtain an anthocyanin-rich extract from the juçara pulp, microencapsulate it with the maltodextrin and beta-cyclodextrin (beta-CD) matrices and evaluate the stability of the microencapsulated anthocyanins against light, pH, and milk development fermented.

In this context, the objective of this article is to conduct a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of the relationship between dynamic capabilities, strategic behavior, and organizational performance. For this, A three-stage SLR protocol was used: (i) planning, (ii) conduct, and (iii) knowledge development.

Hydroxy-selenomethionine enhances the productivity and egg quality of 50- to 70-week-old semi-heavy laying hens under heat stress.

Oxidative stress significantly compromises the production efficiency of laying hens. It has been reported in literature that selenium (Se) in poultry diets has a positive effect on mitigating these effects. This study has been carried out to evaluate the effects of Se supplementation in feeds, from either an inorganic or a hydroxy-selenomethionine (OH-SeMet) source, on the performance and physiological traits of 50- to 70-wk-old Dekalb Brown laying hens under heat stress, and on their egg quality after different storage durations.

Fuzzy Control of Pressure in a Water Supply Network Based on Neural Network System Modeling and IoT Measurements.

As hydroenergetic losses are inherent to water supply systems, they are a frequent issue which water utilities deal with every day. The control of network pressure is essential to reducing these losses, providing a quality supply to consumers, saving electricity and preserving piping from excess pressure. However, to obtain these benefits, it is necessary to overcome some difficulties such as sensing the pressure of geographically distant consumer units and developing a control logic that is capable of making use of the data from these sensors and, at the same time, a good solution in terms of cost benefit.
