Background: The role of the target vessel in percutaneous revascularization of chronic total occlusion (CTO) is unclear.
Objective: We sought to assess the long-term results of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for CTO lesions in each coronary artery and to investigate the impact of successful revascularization and previous myocardial infarction (MI) in the territory of the target vessel.
Methods And Results: Cohort observational study on 1,124 patients who have undergone CTO PCI attempt: 371 on left anterior descending artery (LAD), 485 right coronary artery, and 268 left circumflex.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to describe baseline characteristics, and periprocedural and mid-term outcomes of patients undergoing transcatheter mitral valve interventions post-transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and examine their clinical benefit.
Background: The optimal management of residual mitral regurgitation (MR) post-TAVR is challenging.
Methods: This was an international registry of 23 TAVR centers.

High coagulation factor VIII (FVIII) levels comprise a common risk factor for venous thromboembolism (VTE), but the underlying genetic determinants are largely unknown. We investigated the molecular bases of high FVIII levels in 2 Italian families with severe thrombophilia. The proband of the first family had a history of recurrent VTE before age 50 years, with extremely and persistently elevated FVIII antigen and activity levels (>400%) as the only thrombophilic defects.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak and of the subsequent lockdown on the neurosurgical services of the Veneto region in Italy compared to the previous 4 years.
Methods: A survey was conducted in all 6 neurosurgical departments in the Veneto region to collect data about surgical, inpatient care and endovascular procedures during the month of March for each year from 2016 to 2020. Safety measures to avoid infection from SARS-CoV-2 and any COVID-19 cases reported among neurosurgical patients or staff members were considered.

Aims: The prognostic importance of cardiac procedural myocardial injury and myocardial infarction (MI) in chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) patients undergoing elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is still debated.
Methods And Results: We analysed individual data of 9081 patients undergoing elective PCI with normal pre-PCI baseline cardiac troponin (cTn) levels. Multivariate models evaluated the association between post-PCI elevations in cTn and 1-year mortality, while an interval analysis evaluated the impact of the size of the myocardial injury on mortality.

Mechanical forces shape cells and tissues during development and adult homeostasis. In addition, they also signal to cells via mechanotransduction pathways to control cell proliferation, differentiation and death. These processes require metabolism of nutrients for both energy generation and biosynthesis of macromolecules.

Although antithrombin, protein C, and protein S defects are well-recognized inherited risk factors for venous thromboembolism (VTE) in adults, whether they predispose children to these vascular disorders as well is undefined. In a prospective cohort study, we assessed the incidence of spontaneous and risk period-related VTE in children who were family members of adults who, after an episode of symptomatic VTE, had then been identified as carriers of these abnormalities. A total of 134 children from 87 families were enrolled.

Background: Patients awaiting heart transplantation (HTx) often need bridging therapies to reduce worsening and progression of underlying disease. Limited data are available regarding the use of the MitraClip procedure in secondary mitral regurgitation for this clinical condition.
Methods: We evaluated an international, multicenter (17 centers) registry including 119 patients (median age: 58 years) with moderate-to-severe or severe secondary mitral regurgitation and advanced heart failure (HF) (median left ventricular ejection fraction: 26%) treated with MitraClip as a bridge strategy according to 1 of the following criteria: (1) patients active on HTx list (in list group) (n = 31); (2) patients suitable for HTx but awaiting clinical decision (bridge to decision group) (n = 54); or (3) patients not yet suitable for HTx because of potentially reversible relative contraindications (bridge to candidacy group) (n = 34).

In patients with severe or critical Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) manifestations, a thromboinflammatory syndrome, with diffuse microvascular thrombosis, is increasingly evident as the final step of pro-inflammatory cytokines storm. Actually, no proven effective therapies for novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection exist. Preliminary observations on anticoagulant therapy appear to be associated with better outcomes in moderate and severe COVID-19 patients with signs of coagulopathy and in those requiring mechanical ventilation.

Background: RENASCENT is a prospective, multi-center first-in-human clinical study to evaluate the clinical performance of the novel sirolimus-eluting 150-μm strut thickness FORTITUDE® BRS for percutaneous coronary intervention of single de novo coronary lesions.
Methods: FORTITUDE® BRS was tested in a prospective study in Italy and Colombia. Study objectives were in-scaffold angiographic late lumen loss (LLL) measured by quantitative coronary angiography and target vessel failure (TVF) defined as the composite rate of cardiac death, target vessel myocardial infarction or ischemia driven target lesion revascularization (TLR) at 9- and 24-months with clinical results up to 36-months.

Background: Identification of reliable outcome predictors in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is of paramount importance for improving patient's management.
Methods: A systematic review of literature was conducted until 24 April 2020. From 6843 articles, 49 studies were selected for a pooled assessment; cumulative statistics for age and sex were retrieved in 587 790 and 602 234 cases.

Anaplastic Astrocytoma(AA) is a malignant, diffusely infiltrating, primary brain tumor. According to the WHO 2016 classification of central-nervous-system tumors, AA has been described as a glial tumor with no co-deletion of 1p/19q, and is divided into IDH mutated tumor, characterized by better prognosis, and IDH wild-type form, with worse prognosis. The standard of care is maximal safe resection followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy with temozolomide.

In haemostasis and thrombosis, platelet, coagulation and anticoagulation pathways act together to produce fibrin-containing thrombi. We developed a microspot-based technique, in which we assessed platelet adhesion, platelet activation, thrombus structure and fibrin clot formation in real time using flowing whole blood. Microspots were made from distinct platelet-adhesive surfaces in the absence or presence of tissue factor, thrombomodulin or activated protein C.
