Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to evaluate the consistency of macular architecture measurements in patients with glaucoma, ocular hypertension, and healthy individuals using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), while also examining the effect of intraocular pressure (IOP) fluctuations during the day.
  • - A total of 394 eyes underwent two SD-OCT and IOP measurements on the same day, with results showing that measurements were highly reproducible across all groups, with high intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC > 0.90).
  • - Although significant differences in measurements were found between the glaucoma and control groups, and a weak positive correlation was noted between IOP fluctuations and the ganglion cell layer, the overall variability in measurements did not appear to be

Hypocretin-1/orexin-A, sleep and excessive daytime sleepiness in patients with nonconvulsive status epilepticus: A cross-sectional cohort study.

Sleep Med

July 2024

University Hospital Ostrava, Department of Neurology, Ostrava, Poruba, Czech Republic; University of Ostrava Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Background And Objectives: Nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) manifests as a change in mental status without a coma (NCSE proper) or comatose NCSE. Hypocretin-1/orexin-A (H/O) is involved in alertness and sleep maintenance. Sleep impairment and excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) have a negative impact on cognitive functions and activities of daily living (ADL).

Purpose: Transcranial sonography (TCS) magnetic resonance (MR) fusion imaging and digital image analysis are useful tools for the evaluation of various brain pathologies. This study aimed to compare the echogenicity of predefined brain structures in Huntington's disease (HD) patients and healthy controls by TCS-MR fusion imaging using Virtual Navigator and digitized image analysis.

Materials And Methods: The echogenicity of the caudate nucleus (CN), substantia nigra (SN), lentiform nucleus (LN), insula, and brainstem raphe (BR) evaluated by TCS-MR fusion imaging using digitized image analysis was compared between 21 HD patients and 23 healthy controls.

Background: Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to anterior circulation tandem lesion (TL) remains a technical and clinical challenge for endovascular treatment (EVT). Conflicting results from observational studies and missing evidence from the randomized trials led us to report a recent real-world multicenter clinical experience and evaluate possible predictors of good outcome after EVT.

Methods: We analyzed all AIS patients with TL enrolled in the prospective national study METRICS (Mechanical Thrombectomy Quality Indicators Study in Czech Stroke Centers).

In the last decade, ultrasound examination in neurology has been undergoing a significant expansion of its modalities. In parallel, there is an increasing demand for rapid and high-quality diagnostics in various acute diseases in the prehospital setting, the emergency room, intensive care unit, and during surgical or interventional procedures. Due to the growing need for rapid answers to clinical questions, there is particular demand for diagnostic ultrasound imaging.

Background And Purpose: Rigorous and regular evaluation of defined quality indicators is crucial for further improvement of both technical and clinical results after mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Following the recent international multi-society consensus quality indicators, we aimed to assess trend in these indicators on national level.

Material And Methods: The prospective multicenter study (METRICS) was conducted in Czech Republic (CR) in year 2019.
