Objective: Data-driven respiratory gating (DDG) has recently been introduced to improve image quality in the PET portion of PET/CT examinations. The latest DDG system does not require any external equipment or extended examination time. In this study, we investigated the effects of the new DDG system on the visualization and quantification of breast and upper abdominal cancers, comparing the results with those obtained using the standard free-breathing (STD) PET protocol.

Predicting cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury (Cis-AKI) before its onset is important. We aimed to develop a predictive model for Cis-AKI using patient clinical information based on an interpretable machine learning algorithm. This single-center retrospective study included hospitalized patients aged ≥ 18 years who received the first course of cisplatin chemotherapy from January 1, 2011, to December 31, 2020, at Nagoya City University Hospital.

Introduction: Upacicalcet is a novel injectable calcimimetic. This phase 3 multicenter open-label study aimed to assess the long-term efficacy and safety of upacicalcet in hemodialysis (HD) patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT).
Methods: Japanese HD patients with serum intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) levels >240 pg/mL and corrected calcium (cCa) levels ≥8.

Background: The Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes guidelines recommend nephrology referral for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages 4 to 5, significant proteinuria and persistent microscopic haematuria. However, the recommendations are opinion-based and which patients with CKD benefit more from nephrology referral has not been elucidated.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, patients referred to our nephrology outpatient clinic from April 2017 to March 2019 were included.

Objectives: To clarify the pathophysiology of psychoses after the new administration of antiepileptic drugs (AED), we analyzed the annual incidence, timing of development, and duration of episodes.
Methods: Psychotic outcomes in the first 6-month period after an AED or non-AED administration in patients with focal epilepsy were exhaustively reviewed in eight Japanese neuropsychiatry institutions. In cases with psychotic episodes, the subtype of psychosis, timing of development, previous history of psychosis, and duration of the episode were evaluated.

Background: Psychosis often develops after the administration of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) in patients with epilepsy. However, the individual vulnerability and clinical condition of such patients have been rarely scrutinised. We investigated the effect of individually consistent (trait-dependent) and inconsistent (state-dependent) characteristics.

Objective: Many studies show psychoses after some antiepileptic drug (AED) administrations (post-AED administration psychoses [PAP]). It remains uncertain about psychogenetic potential of each AED and effects of clinical state factors on PAP. We examined the relations between AED-related factors (types, generations, dosages, and concomitant AED) and PAP.

Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is a disease characterized by errors in alternative splicing, or "mis-splicing". The causative agent of mis-splicing in DM1 is an inherited CTG repeat expansion located in the 3' untranslated region of the DM protein kinase gene. When transcribed, CUG repeat expansion RNA sequesters muscleblind-like (MBNL) proteins, which constitute an important family of alternative splicing regulators.

Background: Skin wrinkles are one of the most cosmetically concerning signs of aging for women, and improvements in the visual effect of wrinkles become a matter of concern that has an impact on the quality of life. Although various wrinkle treatments are being tried in the area of aesthetics and noninvasive cosmetic surgery, no guideline on how to treat wrinkles exists to date. This study evaluated the clinical effects of four wrinkle treatment methods [fractional erbium yttrium-aluminum-garnet (YAG) laser treatment, intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, CD-atRA external application, and nutritional therapy with intake of amino acid supplements].
