Background: Video-feedback observational therapy (VOT) is an intensive rehabilitation technique based on movement repetition and visualization that has shown benefits for motor rehabilitation of the upper and lower limbs. Despite an increase in recent literature on the neurophysiological effects of VOT in the upper limb, there is little knowledge about the cortical effects of visual feedback therapies when applied to the lower limbs. COVID-19 is currently pandemic and the detection of SARS-CoV-2 variants in wastewater is causing widespread concern. Herein, cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is proposed as a novel wastewater disinfection technology that effectively inactivates SARS-CoV-2 transcription- and replication-competent virus-like particles, coronavirus GX_P2V, pseudotyped SARS-CoV-2 variants, and porcine epidemic diarrhoea virus in a large volume of water within 180 s (inhibition rate > 99%). Further, CAP disinfection did not adversely affect the viability of various human cell lines.

In the current study, a 3D finite element study was performed to investigate the biomechanical response of an osteoporotic spine segment treated with a novel transpedicular implant (V-STRUT, Hyprevention, France) made of PEEK (polyetheretherketone) material combined with either injections of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 cc of cement. The objective was to assess numerically the biomechanical performance of the implant in combination with different doses of the injected bone cement and to compare its performance with the gold standard vertebroplasty (VP) technique. A female (69 yo) was selected and a 3D finite element model of an osteoporotic spine segment was built based on a Computed Tomography (CT) scan performed from T12 to L2 with corresponding intervertebral discs and ligaments.

Image watermarking often involves the use of handheld devices under non-structured conditions for authentication purposes, particularly in the print-cam process where smartphone cameras are used to capture watermarked printed images. However, these images frequently suffer from perspective distortions, making them unsuitable for automated information detection. To address this issue, Cam-Unet, an end-to-end neural network architecture, is presented to predict the mapping from distorted images to rectified ones, specifically tailored for print-cam challenges applied to ID images.

The preparation of 2H-phase MoS thin nanosheets by electrochemical delamination remains a challenge, despite numerous efforts in this direction. In this work, by choosing appropriate intercalating cations for cathodic delamination, the insertion process was facilitated, leading to a higher degree of exfoliation while maintaining the original 2H-phase of the starting bulk MoS material. Specifically, trimethylalkylammonium cations were tested as electrolytes, outperforming their bulkier tetraalkylammonium counterparts, which have been the focus of past studies.

Due to the natural biochar aging, the improvement of soil quality and immobilization of soil pollutants achieved by biochar may change; understanding the dynamic evolution of the in situ performance of biochar in these roles is essential to discuss the long-term sustainability of biochar remediation. Therefore, in this study, combined biochar from co-pyrolysis of pig manure and invasive Japanese knotweed - P1J1, as well as pure pig manure - PM - and pure Japanese knotweed - JK - derived biochar were applied to investigate their remediation performance in a high As- and Pb-polluted soil with prolonged incubation periods (up to 360 days). Biochar application, especially P1J1 and PM, initially promoted soil pH, dissolved organic carbon, and EC, but the improvements were not constant through time.

The dissipation of turbulence in astrophysical systems is fundamental to energy transfer and heating in environments ranging from the solar wind and corona to accretion disks and the intracluster medium. Although turbulent dissipation is relatively well understood in fluid dynamics, astrophysical plasmas often exhibit exotic behaviour, arising from the lack of interparticle collisions, which complicates turbulent dissipation and heating in these systems. Recent observations by NASA's Parker Solar Probe mission in the inner heliosphere have shed new light on the role of ion cyclotron resonance as a potential candidate for turbulent dissipation and plasma heating.

This study unveils an innovative method for synthesizing coumarin -glycosides, employing original biocatalysts able to graft diverse carbohydrate structures onto 7-mercapto-4-methyl-coumarin in one-pot reactions. The fluorescence properties of the generated thio-derivatives were assessed, providing valuable insights into their potential applications in biological imaging or sensing. In addition, the synthesized compounds exhibited no cytotoxicity across various human cell lines.

Background: The therapeutic strategy for mycetoma relies heavily on the identification of the causative agents, which are either fungal or bacterial. While histopathological examination of surgical biopsies is currently the most used diagnostic tool, it requires well-trained pathologists, who are lacking in most rural areas where mycetoma is endemic. In this work we propose and evaluate a machine learning approach that semi-automatically analyses histopathological microscopic images of grains and provides a classification of the disease as eumycetoma or actinomycetoma.
