An efficient and simple approach has been developed for the synthesis of eight dialkyl/aryl[(5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-ylamino)(aryl)methyl]phosphonates through the Pudovik-type reaction of dialkyl/arylphosphite with imines, obtained from 5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-amine and aromatic aldehydes, under microwave irradiation. Five of them were hydrolyzed to lead to the corresponding phosphonic acids. Selected synthesized compounds were screened for their in vitro antiviral activity against the avian bronchitis virus (IBV).

Two silver(I) complexes, bis{diethyl[(5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl-κ:κ-amino) (4-trifluoromethylphenyl)methyl]phosphonate-(tetrafluoroborato-κ)}-di-silver(I) and tetrakis-{diethyl[(5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl-κ-amino)(4-trifluoromethylphenyl)methyl]phosphonate} silver(I) tetrafluoroborate, were prepared starting from the diethyl[(5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl-amino)(4-trifluoromethylphenyl)methyl]phosphonate () ligand and AgBF salt in Ag/ligand ratios of 1/1 and 1/4, respectively. The structure, stoichiometry, and geometry of the silver complexes were fully characterized by elemental analyses, infrared, single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies, multinuclear NMR, and mass spectroscopies. The binuclear complex ([Ag()(BF)]; ) crystallizes in the monoclinic asymmetric space group 2/c and contains two silver atoms adopting a {AgNF} planar trigonal geometry, which are simultaneously bridged by two oxadiazole rings of two ligands, while the mononuclear complex ([Ag()]BF; ) crystallizes in the non-usual cubic space group c in which the silver atom binds to four distinct electronically enriched nitrogen atoms of the oxadiazole ring, in a slightly distorted {AgN} tetrahedral geometry.

BACKGROUND In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (cyanoacrylate) on the biomechanical and histopathological aspects of tendon healing in a rabbit model of Achilles tendon injury. MATERIAL AND METHODS In total, 36 rabbits were randomized to experimental (cyanoacrylate) and control groups (n=36 tendons in each group). A simple suture was used in the control group and a simple suture plus cyanoacrylate was used in the experimental group.

Objectives: Chronic hepatitis C (CHC) is now a more curable disease with new direct acting antivirals (DAA). Although high sustained virologic response rates, failures still occur in DAA regimens. Our objective in this study was to characterize the real-life presence of clinically relevant resistance - associated substitutions (RASs) in the HCV NS5A gene in CHC patients whose DAA regimen has failed.

Acanthamoeba spp. in river water samples from the Black Sea region, Turkey.

J Water Health

April 2020

Medical Faculty and University Hospital, University of Cologne, 50937 Cologne, Cologne, Germany and Department of Basic and Clinical Sciences, University of Nicosia Medical School, 2408 Nicosia, Cyprus.

The present study aims to investigate the occurrence of free living amoeba (FLA) in water resources (rivers and tap water) in Samsun in the Black Sea. The presence of Acanthamoeba spp. was confirmed in 98 of 192 water samples collected from 32 sites of Samsun province (Samsun centre, Terme, Carsamba, Tekkekoy, Bafra) by PCR.

Introduction: The injection amount of solutions differs in wide ranges, from 20 to 200 μL in intraarticular injections experiments that was carried out with rats. The 10-fold difference between applied volumes is not acceptable since injection errors might affect the outcomes of the studies significantly. The excessive amount of solution that was injected into the knee joint of rats might end up with leakage of the solution from injection aperture, and damage the articular structures etc.

J Prosthet Dent

April 2018

Assistant Professor, Department of Prosthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Ordu, Ordu, Turkey. Electronic address:

Statement Of Problem: An annealing procedure is a heat treatment process to improve the mechanical properties of cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) alloys. However, information is lacking about the effect of the annealing process on the bonding ability of ceramic to Co-Cr alloys fabricated by rapid prototyping.

Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effects of the fabrication techniques and the annealing procedure on the shear bond strength of ceramic to Co-Cr alloys fabricated by different techniques.

Introduction: Dental caries and poor oral hygiene are among the major childhood public health problems. Although dental research frequently refers to the link between these conditions and behavioural issues, little attention has been paid to understanding the reason for oral health problems from a psychiatric point of view. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between poor oral health and hygiene and parental attitudes towards child rearing, parents' and children's oral hygiene behaviours, and childhood psychiatric disorders.

The evaluation of palatal bone thickness for implant insertion with cone beam computed tomography.

Int J Oral Maxillofac Surg

February 2016

Department of Biostatistics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ordu, Ordu, Turkey.

The palate is an alternative anchoring site for orthodontic implants and screws. The use of osseointegrated implants in the intermaxillary suture has recently been described as a fast, effective, and low-cost technique for patients with atrophy of the maxillae. The aim of this study was to use cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to evaluate the thickness of the bone surrounding the intermaxillary suture in relation to the insertion of osseointegrated implants.
