To identify how race and ethnicity were reclassified with survey variables for children self-reporting as American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) using the 2021 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS). We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's 2021 YRBSS. YRBSS collects behaviors and demographics of students in grades 9 through 12, including race and ethnicity via self-report, and then reclassifies data into a "raceeth" variable.

However, there are issues beyond technology failures mediating the effective use of telehealth. We must teach best-practice procedures for conducting telemedicine visits and include in instructional simulations commonly encountered failure modes so students can build their skills.

Perceptions of errors associated with healthcare information technology (HIT) often depend on the context and position of the viewer. HIT vendors posit very different causes of errors than clinicians, implementation teams, or IT staff. Even within the same hospital, members of departments and services often implicate other departments.

Prevention does not fit well within our problem-oriented medical paradigm in which the focus is on curing or ameliorating existing diseases. It is easier and more satisfying to solve existing problems than it is to advise and motivate patients to implement measures to prevent future problems that may or may not occur. Clinician motivation is further diminished by the time required to help people make lifestyle changes, the low reimbursement rate, and the fact that the benefits, if any, are often not apparent for years.

There is a pressing need to provide health professional leaners experiential learning opportunities in health systems science and quality improvement. Moreover, there are several published tools to diagnose and treat health system vulnerabilities and hazards. The Health Care Failure Mode and Effect AnalysisTM (HFMEA) is a systems-engineering tool that the military and aerospace industries developed to proactively identify potential errors.

Purpose: Detrimental effects of using non-patient-centered language (nPCL) have been reported for diabetes, mental illness, and obesity, and both the American Medical Association (AMA) and International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommend using patient-centered language in medical literature. Heart failure is a common yet stigmatized disease, and nPCL may further propagate stigma. This study analyzed current use of nPCL in journals focused on heart failure research and also examined whether the journals steer authors to adhere to AMA or ICMJE guidelines regarding nPCL.

This study aimed to examine the effects of advice from religious/spiritual leaders and friends/family of a religious/spiritual person with mental health struggles on treatment-seeking. A survey was administered to adult patients of a university-affiliated psychiatric clinic in the Midwest. Participants whose friends/family members' advice conflicted with their psychiatrist's advice were six times more likely to delay seeking mental health treatment (OR: 6.

Purpose Of Review: This article will provide an overview on female breast development and focus on common abnormalities of growth, the emerging role of breast self-awareness, and discuss trends in the evaluation and treatment of the breast masses and disorders most often encountered in the female adolescent population.
Recent Findings: Although the embryology of breast development is unchanged, data are emerging on the role of environmental factors on the timing of puberty and thelarche. As breast development occurs, the role of breast self-awareness is also a new trend that allows teens to be cognizant of changes in their own breast and to become more comfortable with their own anatomy.

Current treatments for smoking yield suboptimal outcomes, partly because of an inability to reduce cue-induced smoking. Mindfulness training (MT) has shown preliminary efficacy for smoking cessation, yet its neurobiological target remains unknown. Our prior work with nonsmokers indicates that MT reduces posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) activity.

In this Invited Commentary, the authors identify the ugly, the bad, and the good in teaching in medical education, based on their experiences as medical students and then educators. They reflect on the mistreatment they endured during medical school and its impact on their education and their careers as educators. They also highlight those exemplars from their training who role modeled the type of physician and educator they want to be.

Background: Western Pygmy Rattlesnake (WPR) envenomation reportedly causes refractory and persistent coagulopathy when treated with CroFab (Crotalidae Polyvalent Immune Fab). We report two cases where polyvalent equine anti-viper serum (AntivipmynTRI) was used to treat recurrent coagulopathy in children.
Case Details: The first patient was a 16-month-old male who was bitten by a confirmed WPR.

Aortic injury after thoracic spinal instrumentation is a rare complication that carries significant potential morbidity and mortality if it is not appropriately managed. We report a patient successfully treated in an endovascular manner, thereby applying minimally invasive techniques to avoid the morbidity of open thoracotomy. Decreased short-term morbidity with the endovascular approach offers significant advantage over open repair, thereby omitting aortic cross-clamping, thoracotomy, and increased risk from the patient's comorbidities.

Background: Human dissection commonly occurs early in the undergraduate medical school curriculum, thus presenting an immediate opportunity for educators to teach and encourage humanistic qualities of respect, empathy, and compassion.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to measure the impact of the Donor Luncheon, a unique program in which medical students meet the families of the anatomical donor prior to dissection in the anatomy course at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine.
Methods: Students were randomized into groups of 8 to attend the luncheon and either met with family of the donor or attended the luncheon with no donor family present.
