With the growth of the chemical industry over the last decade, the need for cheaper (and more environmentally friendly) alternatives to petrochemicals of ever-increasing cost has grown steadily. Oleochemicals and biodiesel (OC/BD) are considered as green alternatives to petroleum derivatives, because they come from renewable oils and fats. OC/BD are currently produced by the traditional energy intensive chemical catalyzed methods, which have several economic and environmental drawbacks.

Here, first-principles calculations have been employed to make a comparative study on structural, mechanical, electronic, and optical properties of new CaMF (M = As and Sb) photovoltaic compounds under pressure. The findings disclose that these two systems possess a direct band gap, showcasing a large tunable range under pressure, effectively encompassing the visible light spectrum. Adjusting various levels of hydrostatic pressure has effectively tuned both the band alignment and the effective masses of electrons and holes.

In the present study, the Density Functional Theory (DFT) was employed to computationally investigate the potential application of newly developed lead-free perovskites with the formula of TlSnX (X = Cl, Br, or I) as absorbers in the perovskite solar cells and as thermoelectric materials. The Quantum Espresso code was implemented to optimize the structural configuration of the perovskites and to compute a range of their properties, including their elasticity, electronic behavior, optical characteristics, and thermoelectric attributes. The findings indicated that these perovskite materials exhibit both chemical and structural stability and that TlSnBr and TlSnI perovskites possess high dynamic stability.

Pneumonia is a dangerous disease that can lead to death without proper treatment. It is caused by a bacterial infection that leads to the inflammation of the air sacs in human lungs and potentially results in a lung abscess if not properly untreated. Here in this article we introduced a novel mathematical model to investigate the potential impact of Pneumonia treatments on disease transmission dynamics.

In the present study, we propose and analyze an epidemic mathematical model for malaria dynamics, considering multiple recurrent phenomena: relapse, reinfection, and recrudescence. A limitation in hospital bed capacity, which can affect the treatment rate, is modeled using a saturated treatment function. The qualitative behavior of the model, covering the existence and stability criteria of the endemic equilibrium, is investigated rigorously.

This study aimed to synthesize α-Glycerol Monolaurate from protected glycerol (glycerol 1,2-acetonide) using Lipozym TL IM as a catalyst. In the first step, transesterification of methyl laurate and glycerol 1,2-acetonide with Lipozyme TL IM produced 1,2-acetonide-3-lauryl glycerol. In the second step, deprotection of 1,2-acetonide-3-lauryl glycerol with Amberlyst-15 produced α-Glycerol Monolaurate.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed hospital admission trends related to congenital anomalies in England and Wales from April 1999 to March 2019 using data from Hospital Episode Statistics and Patient Episode Database.
  • Overall, there was a 4.9% increase in hospital admission rates, with the highest rates attributed to congenital malformations of the circulatory, musculoskeletal, genital, and digestive systems, especially noticeable in the respiratory system.
  • The majority of admissions (75.1%) occurred in individuals under 15 years, with males experiencing a higher hospitalization rate (57.5%) compared to females, who saw a 6.4% increase in admissions over the study period.

Background: Resilience is recognized as a critical component of well-being and is an essential factor in coping with stress. There are issues of using a standardized resilience scale developed for one cultural population to be used in the different cultural populations. This study aimed to create a specific measurement scale for measuring doctors' resilience levels in the rural Indonesian context.

Dengue is a public health problem with around 390 million cases annually and is caused by four distinct serotypes. Infection by one of the serotypes provides lifelong immunity to that serotype but have a higher chance of attracting the more dangerous forms of dengue in subsequent infections. Therefore, a perfect strategy against dengue is required.

A detailed site investigation of a eucalypt nursery suffering disease losses revealed the causal agent to be Phytophthora boodjera. The pathogen was detected in vegetation surrounding the nursery production area, including the lawn, under the production benches during the growing season, and, most importantly, from plant debris in used trays. However, it was not found in the container substrate, water supplies, or production equipment or on the workers themselves.
