Nephrotic syndrome (NS) may occur after or concomitantly with malignancy. The use of immunosuppressive approaches in patients with cancer and NS is controversial, especially when the association between the pathologies is unclear. The aim of this study was to report the case of a patient with metastatic melanoma who developed NS and to examine the association between NS and neoplasia.

The aim of the current study was to use the CIELab system to evaluate the performance of the whitening treatment involving violet light-emitting diode (LED) combined with a home 10% and 22% carbamide peroxide dental bleaching technique on dental enamel. Fifty blocks of bovine dental enamel were divided into five groups: control group (control), receiving only LED irradiation; Whitening 10%, receiving 10% carbamide peroxide treatment; Whitening 10%+VL, receiving 10% carbamide peroxide treatment combined with LED irradiation; Whitening 22%, receiving 22% carbamide peroxide treatment; and Whitening 22%+VL, receiving 22% carbamide peroxide treatment combined with violet LED irradiation. Color tests were performed before the protocols, after 1 week and after 2 weeks of treatment by using a spectrophotometer and the CIELab parameters: L*, (a*) and (b*).

Objective: The purpose of this study was to measure the reliability, internal consistency, construct validity, and floor and ceiling effects of the Brazilian version of the Self-Estimated Functional Inability Because of Pain Questionnaire for athletes (SEFIP-sport).
Methods: This was a validity questionnaire study developed in a university community. Athletes or practitioners of any sport undertaking regular practice (weekly frequency of at least twice a week for at least 6 months), with the ability to read and write in Brazilian Portuguese, were included.

Evaluation of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) in the treatment of pressure ulcers in adults and the elderly. Systematic review, based on the recommendations of the handbook, proposed by Cochrane. The search was carried out in databases, records of randomized clinical trials, list of references cited in the selected articles, as well as a manual search in meetings and specialized journals.

Physical exercise leads to significant improvements in strength, balance, functional mobility, and QoL, but there is still reduced access to this therapeutic strategy due to difficulties in locomotion to training centers or lack of adaptation to the exercise environment.
Methods/design: The purpose of this clinical trial will be to verify the effect of a progressive and semi-supervised, home-based exercise program on the functional mobility, and in the QoL of sedentary elderly people.

Background: The primary objective of this study was to investigate whether noninvasive ventilation (NIV) can positively affect exercise capacity, maximum oxygen uptake (V̇ ), and symptoms after a 6-week physical training program for subjects with moderate to very severe COPD.
Methods: 47 subjects with COPD who were enrolled in a physical training program were randomized to either physical training alone or NIV + physical training (NIV-Physical training). Physical training consisted of dynamic aerobic exercises on a treadmill 3 times/week for 6 weeks, for a total of 18 sessions.

Background: Physical therapy (PT) has been shown to be one of the most effective conservative treatments for temporomandibular disorders (TMD). Not all dentists are aware of the importance of the collaboration with physical therapists in the treatment of TMD pain.
Objectives: To determine the awareness of dentists in Florida about the importance of PT for TMD pain and to create awareness related to collaborations.

The aims of the present study were to assess the degree of sensitivity and specificity of the screening questionnaire recommended by the American Academy of Orofacial Pain (AAOP) and the patient-history index proposed by Helkimo (modified by Fonseca) and correlate the findings with a clinical exam. All participants answered the questionnaires and were submitted to a clinical exam by a dentist who had undergone calibration training. Both the AAOP questionnaire and Helkimo index achieved low degrees of sensitivity for the detection of temporomandibular disorder (TMD), but exhibited a high degree of specificity.

For three decades, low level laser therapy (LLLT) has been used for treatment of tendinitis as well as other musculoskeletal diseases. Nevertheless, the biological mechanisms involved remain not completely understood. In this work, the effects of LLLT and of the widely used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, diclofenac, have been compared in the case of collagenase-induced Achilles tendinitis.
