The heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) family of molecular chaperones mediates the folding and activation of ~ 400 client proteins, many of which contribute to oncogenesis. As a result, Hsp90 pan-inhibitors, which inhibit all four Hsp90 isoforms, have been investigated in the clinic for the treatment of cancer. Unfortunately, detrimental side effects were observed and hindered the clinical development of pan-Hsp90 inhibitors.

Exciton condensation, the Bose-Einstein-like condensation of quasibosonic particle-hole pairs, has been the subject of much theoretical and experimental interest and holds promise for ultraenergy-efficient technologies. Recent advances in bilayer systems, such as transition metal dichalcogenide heterostructures, have brought us closer to the experimental realization of exciton condensation without the need for high magnetic fields. In this perspective, we explore progress toward understanding and realizing exciton condensation, with a particular focus on the characteristic theoretical signature of exciton condensation: an eigenvalue greater than one in the particle-hole reduced density matrix, which signifies off-diagonal long-range order.

The survey items were as follows: 1) sex, 2) age, 3) presence or absence of family members living together, 4) clinical stage, 5) surgical procedure, 6) reconstructed organs, 7) nutritional status at admission, 8) presence or absence of postoperative complications (anastomotic leakage, chylothorax, and recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis), and 9) presence or absence of treatment other than surgery (chemo- or radiotherapy).

Not only do surface-growing microbes such as biofilms display specific traits compared to planktonic cells, but also they display many heterogeneous behaviors over many spatial and temporal contexts. While the application of molecular genetics tools to extract or visualize gene expression or regulatory function data is now common in studying surface growth, the use of analytical chemistry tools to visualize the spatiotemporal distribution of chemical products synthesized by these surface microbes is less common. Here, we review chemical imaging tools that have been used to inform our understanding of surface-growing microbes.

In this paper, we review our work on the manipulation of magnetization in ferromagnetic semiconductors (FMSs) using electric-current-induced spin-orbit torque (SOT). Our review focuses on FMS layers from the (Ga,Mn)As zinc-blende family grown by molecular beam epitaxy. We describe the processes used to obtain spin polarization of the current that is required to achieve SOT, and we briefly discuss methods of specimen preparation and of measuring the state of magnetization.

Recent interest in the diverse ecosystem of bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses that make up the skin microbiome has led to several studies investigating the microbiome in healthy skin and in a variety of dermatological conditions. An imbalance of the normal skin flora can cause some skin diseases, and current culture techniques are often unable to detect a microorganism to further our understanding of the clinical-microbiological correlates of disease and dysbiosis.
