Background: Chronic pelvic pain is a debilitating but common syndrome that is a burden both for patients and health systems. Pelvic congestion syndrome (PCS) contributes to 30-40% of patients presenting with chronic pelvic pain where no other cause is identified. However, PCS is poorly understood, underdiagnosed and undertreated, with the average time to diagnosis being reported as up to four years after initial presentation.

Purpose Of Review: Obesity is recognized as a "gateway" chronic, progressive disease of dysfunctional adipocytes. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist-based therapies (GLP1BTs), including glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) with/without glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), have demonstrated clinically significant weight loss and health gains in adults, hence interest in using them in younger and older people. Therefore, reviewing the role of GLP1BTs in these populations is pertinent and timely.

We report a unique case involving cardiac manifestation of T-cell lymphoma and associated risk management of ventricular arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death. A 39-year-old woman presented with a syndrome consistent with fever in a returned traveler, ultimately diagnosed with stage IV peripheral T-cell lymphoma involving the myocardium with ventricular tachycardia. Management of risk of sudden cardiac death was complicated by hematological management with an antibody-drug conjugate chemotherapy regimen and later autologous stem cell transplant.

The well-posedness of the initial-boundary value problem for higher-order quadratic nonlinear Schrödinger equations on the half-line is studied by utilizing the Fokas solution formula for the corresponding linear problem. Using this formula, linear estimates are derived in Bourgain spaces for initial data in spatial Sobolev spaces on the half-line and boundary data in temporal Sobolev spaces suggested by the time regularity of the linear initial value problem. Then, the needed bilinear estimates are derived and used for showing that the iteration map defined via the Fokas solution formula is a contraction in appropriate solution spaces.

Infectious disease can reduce labor productivity and incomes, trapping subpopulations in a vicious cycle of ill health and poverty. Efforts to boost African farmers' agricultural production through fertilizer use can inadvertently promote the growth of aquatic vegetation that hosts disease vectors. Recent trials established that removing aquatic vegetation habitat for snail intermediate hosts reduces schistosomiasis infection rates in children, while converting the harvested vegetation into compost boosts agricultural productivity and incomes.

Interconversion of the oxidation states of uranium enables separations and reactivity schemes involving this element and contributes to technologies for recycling of spent nuclear fuels. The redox behaviors of uranium species impact these processes, but use of electrochemical methods to drive reactions of molecular uranium complexes and to obtain molecular insights into the outcomes of electrode-driven reactions has received far less attention than it deserves. Here, we show that electro-reduction of the uranyl ion (UO) can be used to promote stepwise functionalization of the typically unreactive oxo groups with exogenous triphenylborane (BPh) serving as a moderate electrophile, avoiding the conventional requirement for a chemical reductant.

Over time, memories lose episodic detail and become distorted, a process with serious ramifications for eyewitness identification. What are the processes contributing to such transformations over time? We investigated the roles of post-learning sleep and retrieval practice in memory accuracy and distortion, using a naturalistic story recollection task. Undergraduate students listened to a recording of the "War of the Ghosts," a Native American folktale, and were assigned to either a sleep or wake delay group, and either a retrieval practice or listen-only study condition.

Cilia are hair-like organelles with vital physiological roles, and ciliogenesis defects underlie a range of severe congenital malformations and human diseases. Here, we report that is essential for cilia development across multiple embryonic tissues including the ear, neuromasts and Kupffer's vesicle (KV), which establishes left/right axial pattern. deficient embryos manifest altered fluid homeostasis and kidney defects including decreased multiciliated cells (MCCs), determining that is essential to properly establish several renal lineages.

Waveguide interconnect coupling control is essential for enhancing the chip density of photonic integrated circuits to incorporate a growing number of components. However, a critical engineering challenge is to achieve both strong waveguide isolation and efficient long-range coupling on a single chip. Here, a novel photonic supercoupling phenomenon is demonstrated for waveguide coupling over separation distances from a quarter to five wavelengths (λ), leveraging the tunable mode tails and the vortex energy flow in topological valley Hall system.

Background: Radiomics is a quantitative approach to medical imaging, aimed to extract features into large datasets. By using artificial intelligence (AI) methodologies, large radiomic data can be analysed and translated into meaningful clinical applications. In rhinology, there is heavy reliance on computed tomography (CT) imaging of the paranasal sinus for diagnostics and assessment of treatment outcomes.

Adjuvant radiation therapy (ART) for macroscopic regional nodal cutaneous melanoma has evolved. A significant step was the discovery of targeted therapies, particularly towards V600E-mutated melanoma, and immunotherapy under its different kinds. Prior to this, the defining trial was the Australia and New Zealand Melanoma Trials Group (ANZMTG) 01.

Three experiments with the psychomotor vigilance task examined whether presenting content-free cues, feedback, and points would reduce lapses of sustained attention. In all three experiments, behavioral lapses of attention (particularly slow reaction times) were reduced with the motivation manipulations compared with control conditions, but self-reports of off-task thinking (e.g.

Background: Although phytoestrogens modulated pancreatic tumour growth in experimental studies, it remains unclear whether phytoestrogen intake is associated with pancreatic cancer.
Methods: Of 92,278 persons who completed the Diet History Questionnaire in the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial, 346 were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer within a median follow-up of 9.4 years.

Aims: Studies show that people with severe mental illness (SMI) have a greater risk of dying from colorectal cancer (CRC). These studies mostly predate the introduction of national bowel cancer screening programmes (NBCSPs) and it is unknown if these have reduced disparity in CRC-related mortality for people with SMI.
Methods: We compared mortality rates following CRC diagnosis at colonoscopy between a nationally representative sample of people with and without SMI who participated in Australia's NBCSP.

Nonthermal plasma-surface interactions enable transformative advancements in green chemistry, healthcare, materials processing, pollution abatement, and the ever-growing area of plasma catalysis. In the context of plasma catalysis, the fate of the active sites during plasma treatment has remained enigmatic, and observation of low-temperature plasma-catalyst events has been challenging. The induction of strong metal-support interactions (SMSI) through high-temperature hydrogen treatment is a well-documented and established, yet limited, method to impact selectivity and stability of noble metal catalysts on reducible supports.

Heart valves play a critical role in maintaining proper cardiovascular function in the human heart; however, valve diseases can lead to improper valvular function and reduced cardiovascular performance. Depending on the extent and severity of the valvular disease, replacement operations are often required to ensure that the heart continues to operate properly in the cardiac system. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures have recently emerged as a promising alternative to surgical replacement approaches because the percutaneous methods used in these implant operations are significantly less invasive than open heart surgery.

Host-guest interactions have been increasingly explored for use in the dynamic physical cross-linking of polymeric precursors to form hydrogel networks. However, the orientation of guest motifs is restricted upon macromolecule conjugation. The implications of such restriction on both the kinetics and thermodynamics of the resulting host-guest supramolecular cross-links are poorly understood.
