Notably, oxidative stress-associated neuronal cell death can be exacerbated through testosterone signaling via membrane androgen receptor AR45, which is complexed with G protein G within plasma membrane-associated lipid rafts. The objective of this study was to elucidate the impact of sex on the expression of AR45 and G in brain regions associated with cognitive function, specifically hippocampus subregions and entorhinal cortex.

This systematic review identifies current simulation models in the literature that pertain to perioperative liver transplant anesthesia. Data were collected by performing an electronic search of the PubMed and Scopus databases for articles describing simulation in transplant anesthesia.

Systemic Administration of α7-Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Ligands Does Not Improve Renal Injury or Behavior in Mice With Advanced Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

There is a critical need for safe treatment options to control inflammation in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) since the inflammation contributes to morbidity and mortality in advanced disease. Endogenous neuroimmune mechanisms like the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway can be targeted to modulate inflammation, but the ability to manipulate such pathways and reduce inflammation and end organ damage has not been fully explored in SLE. Positive allosteric modulators (PAM) are pharmacological agents that inhibit desensitization of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7-nAChR), the main anti-inflammatory feature within the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway, and may augment α7-dependent cholinergic tone to generate therapeutic benefits in SLE.

Diversity in the Era of Precision Medicine - From Bench to Bedside Implementation.

Recent evidence shows how patients' unique genetic makeup can affect disease outcomes and the increasing availability of targeted treatments promises a future in health care, whereby treatments will be tailored to individual needs. This article reports on the topics discussed at the 13th Annual Texas Conference on Health Disparities, organized by the Texas Center for Health Disparities at the University of North Texas Health Science Center; the meeting focused on the theme, "Diversity in the Era of Precision Medicine" and was held during June 2018 in Fort Worth, Texas. The primary focus of this conference, which brought together clinical and basic scientists, was on the inclusion of diversity in precision medicine to bridge the gap in health disparities.

Behavioral Artistry: Examining the Relationship Between the Interpersonal Skills and Effective Practice Repertoires of Applied Behavior Analysis Practitioners.

This study investigated interpersonal skills associated with the concept of behavioral artistry (BA), a repertoire of practitioner behaviors including care, attentiveness, and creativity, among others, associated with the effective delivery of applied behavior analysis (ABA) treatment. Survey results indicated parents of children with autism preferred BA descriptors for ABA therapists over non-BA descriptors. A separate survey of 212 university students on a standardized personality assessment revealed students majoring and/or working in the field of ABA had lower levels of BA than those in other human services professions.

Chronic stress of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss at high altitude: a field study.

The stress response of Oncorhynchus mykiss in high-altitude farms in central Mexico was investigated over two seasons: the cool (9·1-13·7° C) dry winter season, and the warmer (14·7-15·9° C), wetter summer season. Fish were subjected to an acute stress test followed by sampling of six physiological variables: blood cortisol, glucose, lactate, total antioxidant capacity, haemoglobin concentration and per cent packed cell volume (VPC %). Multivariate analyses revealed that lactate and total antioxidant capacity were significantly higher in the summer, when water temperatures were warmer and moderate hypoxia (4·9-5·3 mg l(-1) ) prevailed.

We describe a procedure for enriching nitropeptides for mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics that is a simple and reliable alternative to immunoaffinity-based methods.
