Cisplatin (CisPt) is a widely used chemotherapeutic agent. However, its nephrotoxic effects pose significant risks, particularly for the development of acute kidney injury (AKI) and potential progression to chronic kidney disease (CKD). The present study investigates the impact of non-lethal exposure of CisPt to immortalized human renal epithelial precursor TERT cells (HRTPT cells) that co-express PROM1 and CD24, markers characteristic of renal progenitor cells.

The thermal decomposition of per- and poly fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is poorly understood. Here, we present an innovative, comprehensive analytical method to investigate their thermal decomposition, including perfluorocarboxylic acids (PFCAs), alcohol, sulfonates, and GenX (acid dimer), focusing on identifying their breakdown products. In this study, evolved gas analysis-mass spectrometry (EGA-MS) was used for fast real-time screening to determine the significant temperatures to be investigated with the thermal desorption-pyrolysis coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (TD-Py-GC-MS), which provided detailed information about evolved PFAS and their breakdown products.

Purpose: To describe patterns of 6-month total cost of care and acute care utilization among cancer survivors who received ostomy surgeries in 3 large hospital systems in the United States between 2018 and 2022 and to identify reasons for acute care utilization.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study using electronic medical records and the corresponding hospital revenue data obtained from 3 geographically diverse hospital systems in the United States was performed. 6-month all-cause post-surgical encounters subsequent to respective ostomy surgery dates were included.

Introduction: In the biological sciences, many areas of uncertainty exist regarding the factors that contribute to success within the faculty job market. Earlier work from our group reported that beyond certain thresholds, academic and career metrics like the number of publications, fellowships or career transition awards, and years of experience did not separate applicants who received job offers from those who did not. Questions still exist regarding how academic and professional achievements influence job offers and if candidate demographics differentially influence outcomes.

This study examines the dynamical properties of the Ikeda map, with a focus on bifurcations and chaotic behavior. We investigate how variations in dissipation parameters influence the system, uncovering shrimp-shaped structures that represent intricate transitions between regular and chaotic dynamics. Key findings include the analysis of period-doubling bifurcations and the onset of chaos.

Introduction: Pelvic fractures (PF) occur in up to 9 % of trauma cases, primarily from high-impact events, and are associated with increased morbidity and mortality due to frequent concomitant injuries. Thoracolumbar (TL) spinal fractures, particularly at the T10-L2 junction, are also common in high-energy trauma but are less frequently examined in association with PF. Missed TL fractures can lead to serious neurological deficits.

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is length-dependent peripheral nerve damage arising as a complication of type 1 or type 2 diabetes in up to 50% of patients. DPN poses a substantial burden on patients, who can experience impaired gait and loss of balance, predisposing them to falls and fractures, and neuropathic pain, which is frequently difficult to treat and reduces quality of life. Advanced DPN can lead to diabetic foot ulcers and non-healing wounds that often necessitate lower-limb amputation.

Super-resolution microscopy has become an indispensable tool across diverse research fields, offering unprecedented insights into biological architectures with nanometer scale resolution. Compared with traditional nanometer-scale imaging methods such as electron microscopy, super-resolution microscopy offers several advantages, including the simultaneous labeling of multiple target biomolecules with high specificity and simpler sample preparation, making it accessible to most researchers. In this study, we introduce two optimized methods of super-resolution imaging: 4-fold and 12-fold 3D-isotropic and preserved Expansion Microscopy (4× and 12× 3D-ExM).

Background: This study examined associations between self-reported trauma exposure and physical health status after control of variance associated with psychiatric disturbance. Physical and mental health diagnoses were examined among participants with and without histories of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Participants And Procedure: College ( = 2,320) and national ( = 663) respondents were surveyed to identify trauma histories defined using the primary DSM-5 diagnostic criterion for PTSD.
Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) has emerged as a significant cardiovascular risk factor, particularly in patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD). This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to synthesize evidence on the impact of Lp(a) levels on cardiovascular outcomes in IHD patients. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across multiple databases, covering publications from January 2016 to October 2024.

Recommendation algorithms profoundly shape users' attention and information consumption on social media platforms. This study introduces a computational intervention aimed at mitigating two key biases in algorithms by influencing the recommendation process. We tackle , or algorithms creating narrow nonnews and entertainment information diets, and , or algorithms directing the more strongly partisan users to like-minded content.

The use of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is now well established in healthcare as an essential support tool for patient management in various clinical settings. Its use in sports is rapidly expanding due to the valuable insights it offers, helping to better structure athletes' diets and training programs, thereby optimizing their performance. In the context of sport, however, there is a consensus regarding the importance of proper interpretation of BIA-derived data, which cannot be limited to mere estimation of body composition.

Teaching financial and economic justice content is an important feature of social work education. Such content helps students effectively address financial challenges with their clients, transform communities, and advocate for appropriate economic policies. Despite initial efforts by CSWE and others, many social work educators still do not teach financial and economic justice content in their courses.

The prelimbic cortex is involved in operant reward seeking. However, the precise nature of its activity patterns and whether/how they differ between different types of rewards are largely unknown. We use miniscope calcium imaging to observe prelimbic activity during both food and cocaine seeking in freely behaving mice.

In the past five years, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has evolved significantly, driven by advancements in device design, treatment protocols, software integration, and brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). This review evaluates how these innovations enhance the safety, efficacy, and accessibility of rTMS while identifying key challenges such as protocol standardization and ethical considerations. A structured review of peer-reviewed studies from 2019 to 2024 focused on technological and clinical advancements in rTMS, including AI-driven personalized treatments, portable devices, and integrated BCIs.

Background/objectives: Schlafen12 (SLFN12) is an intermediate human Schlafen protein shown to correlate with survivability in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). SLFN12 causes differential expressions of significant cancer genes, but how they change in response to chemotherapy remains unknown. Our aim is to identify the effect of chemotherapy on genes that improve TNBC outcomes and other SLFN family members following SLFN12 knockout or overexpression.

Microtubule-targeting agents (MTAs) have been successfully translated from basic research into clinical therapies and have been widely used as first- and second-line chemotherapy drugs for various cancers. However, current MTAs exhibit positive responses only in subsets of patients and are often accompanied by side effects due to their impact on normal cells. This underscores an urgent need to develop novel therapeutic strategies that enhance MTA efficacy while minimizing toxicity to normal tissues.
