What is the relationship between the electoral success of populist radical right parties (PRRPs) and public attitudes toward immigration? Previous research suggests that PRRP success can lead to more negative attitudes due to the breaking down of antiprejudice norms and more prominent anti-immigration party cues. However, we argue that greater PRRP success could have a positive relationship with immigration attitudes, reflecting negative partisanship, polarization, and a desire to reemphasize antiprejudice norms, which we call a "reverse backlash effect." Using the best available electoral and public opinion data across the last thirty years in twenty-four European countries, our TSCS analyses show the predominance of such "reverse backlash effects" across several operationalizations of PRRP success.

Background: In recent years, there has been an increased utilization of dual-mobility (DM) implants in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) to mitigate the risk of postoperative hip instability. This study aimed to present mid-term outcomes of DM bearings in primary THA using data from the American Joint Replacement Registry.
Methods: Screening was conducted on patients aged ≥ 65 years who underwent primary THA between 2012 and 2018.

The growing microbial resistance to traditional medicines necessitates in-depth analysis of medicine-microbe interactions (MMIs) to develop new therapeutic strategies. Widely used artificial intelligence models are limited by sparse observational data and prevalent noise, leading to over-reliance on specific data for feature extraction and reduced generalization ability. To address these limitations, we integrate Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KANs), independent subspaces, and collaborative decoding techniques into the masked graph autoencoder (Mask GAE) framework, creating an innovative MMI prediction model with enhanced accuracy, generalization, and interpretability.

Rising temperature extremes during critical reproductive periods threaten the yield of major grain and fruit crops. Flowering plant reproduction depends on the ability of pollen grains to generate a pollen tube, which elongates through the pistil to deliver sperm cells to female gametes for double fertilization. We used tomato as a model fruit crop to determine how high temperature affects the pollen tube growth phase, taking advantage of cultivars noted for fruit production in exceptionally hot growing seasons.

This study explores the feasibility of quantitative Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) features translated from OCT using generative machine learning (ML) for characterizing vascular changes in retina. A generative adversarial network framework was employed alongside a 2D vascular segmentation and a 2D OCTA image translation model, trained on the OCT-500 public dataset and validated with data from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) retina clinic. Datasets are categorized by scanning range (Field of view) and disease status.

Certification serves to validate the knowledge, skills, and experience required for clinical practice. Availability of a certification for emergency nurse practitioners (ENPs) has had an arduous path. This article examines the history of ENP certification in the United States, its territories and Canada, and how the certification examination has arrived at its current state.

Background And Purpose: To describe the clinical commissioning of an in-house artificial intelligence (AI) treatment planning platform for head-and-neck (HN) Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT).
Materials And Methods: The AI planning platform has three components: (1) a graphical user interface (GUI) is built within the framework of a commercial treatment planning system (TPS). The GUI allows AI models to run remotely on a designated workstation configured with GPU acceleration.

Neuroblastoma is one of the most common tumors in young children, arising from the adrenal medulla or paraspinal sympathetic ganglia. We describe primitive round cell tumors presenting in three patients less than 1.5 years old, with striking clinical and pathologic similarities to neuroblastoma.

Undernutrition in children commonly disrupts the structure and function of the small intestinal microbial community, leading to enteropathies, compromised metabolic health, and impaired growth and development. The mechanisms by which diet and microbes mediate the balance between commensal and pathogenic intestinal flora remain elusive. In a murine model of undernutrition, we investigated the direct interactions , a prevalent small intestinal pathogen, on indigenous microbiota and specifically on Lactobacillus strains known for their mucosal and growth homeostatic properties.

Background: In patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), the therapeutic effects of conventional immune checkpoint inhibitors targeting the adaptive immune system are largely limited to those with microsatellite instability-high tumors. Meanwhile, new immunotherapies targeting the innate immune system are attracting increasing attention. CD47 is a representative innate immune checkpoint involved in the evasion of tumor cell phagocytosis by macrophages.

Objective: Metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) is associated with substantial, but variable, weight outcomes. The gut microbiome may be a factor in determining weight trajectory, but examination has been limited by a lack of longitudinal studies with robust microbiome sequencing. This study aimed to describe changes in the microbiome and associations with weight outcomes more than 2 years post surgery.

Hemotropic mycoplasmas (hemoplasmas) are small pleomorphic bacteria that parasitize the surface of red blood cells of mammals. Hemoplasmas have been described in different species from the Camelidae Family, such as llamas and alpacas (South American camelids), but data on dromedary camels (Camelus dromedarius) are limited to a few reports. Somalia has one of the world's largest dromedary camel populations, and studies on hemoplasmas and tick-borne pathogens are lacking.

Pharmacogenetics promises to optimize treatment-related outcomes by informing optimal drug selection and dosing based on an individual's genotype in conjunction with other important clinical factors. Despite significant evidence of genetic associations with drug response, pharmacogenetic testing has not been widely implemented into clinical practice. Among the barriers to broad implementation are limited guidance for how to successfully integrate testing into clinical workflows and limited data on outcomes with pharmacogenetic implementation in clinical practice.

Molecules under strong or ultra-strong light-matter coupling present an intriguing route to modify chemical structure, properties, and reactivity. A rigorous theoretical treatment of such systems requires handling matter and photon degrees of freedom on an equal quantum mechanical footing. In the regime of molecular electronic strong or ultra-strong coupling to one or a few molecules, it is desirable to treat the molecular electronic degrees of freedom using the tools of ab initio quantum chemistry, yielding an approach referred to as ab initio cavity quantum electrodynamics (ai-QED), where the photon degrees of freedom are treated at the level of cavity QED.

This manifesto seeks to challenge dominant narratives about the future of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Current predictions are mainly driven by technological developments-technologies usually being developed for different markets-and are often based on ableist assumptions. In online conversations and a discussion panel at the 2023 International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication conference, we explored alternative futures by adopting different starting positions.

Collagenous connective tissue, found throughout the bodies of metazoans, plays a crucial role in maintaining structural integrity. This versatile tissue has the potential for numerous biomedical applications, including the development of innovative collagen-based biomaterials. Inspiration for such advancements can be drawn from echinoderms, a group of marine invertebrates that includes sea stars, sea cucumbers, brittle stars, sea urchins, and sea lilies.

Individual behavior of primates living in small groups is often seen to represent behavior of all group members due to close spatial cohesion. However, given that females expend more energy on reproduction than males (including lactation and infant carrying), females and males may exhibit different behaviors even when maintaining spatial proximity, particularly in highly seasonal or resource-poor environments. We collected 187 hours of data from three dyads (n = 6 individuals) of white-handed gibbons (Hylobates lar) living in a fruit-poor environment in western Thailand during the period of fruit scarcity.
