Objectives: To assess the effectiveness of the ICAN Discussion Aid in improving patients' experience of receiving care for their chronic conditions and health professionals' experience of providing their care.
Methods: We conducted a pragmatic, mixed-methods, cluster-randomized trial of the ICAN Discussion Aid at 8 clinics in 4 independent health systems in the US from January 2017 and to August 2018. Sites were randomized 1:1 in pairs.

Accurate prediction of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) at the patient level is essential for ensuring patient safety and optimizing healthcare outcomes. Traditional machine learning-based methods primarily focus on predicting potential ADRs for drugs, but they often fall short of capturing the complexity of individual demographics and the variations in ADRs experienced by different people. In this study, a novel framework called Precise Adverse Drug Reaction (PreciseADR) for patient-level ADR prediction is proposed.

To date, limited research has been conducted on technology use among socially marginalized groups, such as older immigrants who may have limited digital literacy. This pilot study aims to explore Korean American older adults' perceptions and experiences with a companion version of the social robot, Hyodol. We hypothesize that the Hyodol robot's social presence may facilitate technology use among this sample.

The Memory Book approach to dementia care effectively fosters daily communication with individuals with dementia. With technological advancements, the traditional memory book intervention has evolved into digital forms. However, it remains unclear whether family caregivers (FCGs) perceive this transition as beneficial or not, especially when their loved ones with dementia demonstrate communicative deficits.

Background: Patients with locally advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who undergo concurrent chemotherapy and radiotherapy often experience synergistic toxicity, and local regional control rates remain poor. We assessed the activity and safety outcomes of primary tumour stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) followed by conventional chemoradiotherapy to the lymph nodes and consolidation immunotherapy in patients with unresectable locally advanced NSCLC.
Methods: In this multicentre, single-arm, phase 2 trial, patients aged 18 years and older were enrolled at eight regional cancer centres in North Carolina and South Carolina, USA.

Hemoplasmas (HM) infect a wide range of mammals and may cause hemolytic anemia. We detected HM in a melon-headed whale (Peponocephala electra) stranded in Veracruz, Mexico. Sequencing and phylogenetic analysis of 16S and 23S rDNA indicated the presence of a HM that was previously detected in cetaceans from South America.

Background/objectives: Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs are multi-component interventions comprising structured strength and cardiovascular exercise training, psychological support, education, and therapies to promote positive lifestyle changes. This study aimed to determine if there are differences in the 6-minute walk distance (6MWD) across risk groups for recurrent heart disease.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study used existing data collected from electronic medical records.

Nucleic acids (RNA and DNA) play crucial roles in all living organisms and find wide utility in clinical settings. The convergence of rationally designed nucleic acid multistranded assemblies with embedded therapeutic properties has led to the development of a platform based on nucleic acid nanoparticles (NANPs). NANPs incorporate various functional moieties to deliver their combinations to diseased cells in a highly controlled manner.

Background: COVID-19 booster vaccinations mitigate transmission and reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with infection. However, the optimal date for booster administration remains uncertain. Geographic variation in infection rates throughout the year makes it challenging to intuit the best yearly booster administration date to effectively prevent infection, and also challenging to provide best guidance on how to alter booster administration in response to a breakthrough infection.

Background: Individuals with sickle cell disease (SCD) experience poor clinical outcomes while transitioning from paediatric to adult care. Standards for SCD transition are needed. We established a Quality Improvement (QI) Collaborative that aimed to improve the quality of care for all young adults with SCD by establishing a standardised SCD transition process.

Clinical rotations provide some education; however, prior to the development of the Ortho Acting-Intern Coordinated Clinical Education and Surgical Skills (OrthoACCESS) curriculum in 2019, no standardized didactic curriculum existed. Over time, students desired interactive, case-based learning opportunities.

In newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM), measurable residual disease (MRD) status is prognostically important, but its role in treatment-decisions remains unclear. In a phase II trial (NCT04113018), we assessed daratumumab, carfilzomib, lenalidomide and dexamethasone (Dara-KRd) induction followed by a next generation sequencing (NGS) based MRD-adapted strategy. The primary endpoint was rate of complete response and stringent complete response (≥CR) after induction.

Understanding how populations diverge is one of the oldest and most compelling questions in evolutionary biology. An in depth understanding of how this process operates in planktonic marine animals, where barriers for gene flow are seemingly absent, is critical to understanding the past, present, and future of ocean life. plays an important ecological role in its native habitat along the Atlantic coast of the Americas and is highly destructive in its non-native habitats in European waters.

Objective: Renourishment and weight restoration are critical first steps in anorexia nervosa (AN) treatment. The ability of the gastrointestinal tract to harvest and utilize energy from food is essential for successful weight restoration, but the functional capacity of the intestine after prolonged caloric restriction remains unknown. In an exploratory study, we quantified the stool energy content of individuals with AN before and after renourishment.
