Herein we describe the use of dynamic combinatorial chemistry to self-assemble complex coiled coil motifs. We amide-coupled a series of peptides designed to form homodimeric coiled coils with 3,5-dithiobenzoic acid (B) at the N-terminus and then allowed each B-peptide to undergo disulfide exchange. In the absence of peptide, monomer B forms cyclic trimers and tetramers, and thus we expected that addition of the peptide to monomer B would shift the equilibrium towards the tetramer to maximize coiled coil formation.

A series of injectable polysaccharide hydrogels were prepared with oxidized dextran and diethylenetriamine-modified carboxymethylcellulose or hyaluronic acid. Rheological evaluation revealed that carboxymethylcellulose-based hydrogels achieved the largest storage moduli (>1 kPa) when prepared from 5 wt. % solutions.

Azabicyclene, an azetidine-containing natural product, was identified using quorum-sensing molecules to upregulate expression of a gene cluster highly conserved in the human pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Mutational studies of the gene cluster revealed essential genes for biosynthesis, including an unusual nonribosomal peptide synthetase. Reconstitution of this enzyme in vitro identified key biosynthetic intermediates.

Elastomeric perfluoropolyether molds are applied to pattern arrays of sub-500 nm inorganic oxide features. This versatile soft-lithography technique can be used to pattern a wide range of materials; in this work inorganic oxides including TiO2 , SnO2 , ZnO, ITO, and BaTiO3 are patterned on a variety of substrates with different aspect ratios. An example of TiO2 posts is shown in the figure.
