With the Food and Drug Administration's approval of the first over-the-counter naloxone nasal spray in 2023, it was expected that access to naloxone nasal spray would increase and that its cost would be reduced. However, the writers of this commentary found varying insurance coverage of naloxone during purchase attempts at local pharmacies. Failure to cover naloxone can reduce access and increase risk of overdose death.

Whipple's disease is a rare bacterial infection that is often present for years prior to diagnosis. Symptoms are nonspecific in the early stages of presentation and are primarily gastrointestinal in nature. The disease may progress with more systemic symptoms including arthralgia, fever, lymphadenopathy, cardiovascular disease, and central nervous system involvement.

There is strong interest in accurate methods for predicting changes in protein stability resulting from amino acid mutations to the protein sequence. Recombinant proteins must often be stabilized to be used as therapeutics or reagents, and destabilizing mutations are implicated in a variety of diseases. Due to increased data availability and improved modeling techniques, recent studies have shown advancements in predicting changes in protein stability when a single-point mutation is made.

Background And Objective: Although breastfeeding ensures optimal infant development and maternal health, mothers taking medications may abandon breastfeeding because of uncertainties regarding toxicity to infants. Current methods in predicting infant risk to maternal medication exposure do not account for breastfeeding-related variability or in utero exposure via the umbilical cord (UC). Previously, our workflow integrated variability in infant anatomy and physiology, breast milk intake volume, and drug concentrations in breast milk using physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling.

Purpose: Empirical evidence underscores both benefits of telehealth visits and persistent disparities in use for Black adults. Guided by the Technology Acceptance Model, we evaluated perceptions regarding telehealth visits among Black and Non-Black adults receiving cancer care from two academic health systems.
Methods: Between April 2022 and October 2023, a survey was conducted among adult patients treated for cancer in the past 3 years.

Background: Highly effective direct acting antiviral (DAA) therapies have transformed the landscape of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) treatment. However, there continues to be limited data regarding the efficacy and safety of required in-person clinic visits (standard monitoring) versus completely telehealth clinic visits (minimal monitoring) during HCV therapy, which could delay practice adoption.
Objectives: This study aimed to assess the rates of undetectable HCV RNA in sustained viral load 12 weeks after therapy (SVR12) in standard versus minimal monitoring approaches during DAA.

Purpose: This article identifies, prioritizes, and summarizes published literature on the medication-use process (MUP) from calendar year 2023 that can impact health-system pharmacy daily practice. The MUP is the foundational system that provides the framework for safe medication utilization within the healthcare environment. The MUP is defined in this article as having the following components: prescribing/transcribing, dispensing, administration, and monitoring.

Purpose: Cancer is a leading cause of global childhood mortality, affecting 400,000 children annually. While treatable with modern therapies, children living in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) have limited access to care and lower survival rates. Hospital-based cancer registries (HBCRs) collect detailed patient information to critically evaluate and evolve care.

Severe infections associated with the use of strong immunosuppressive medication are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with ANCA vasculitis (AV). While guidelines conditionally recommend trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX) prophylaxis for Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia in AV patients, robust evidence on prophylaxis strategies is lacking. This scoping review aimed to assess the existing evidence on infection prophylaxis in AV patients, identify knowledge gaps, and guide future study design.

Precision public health (PPH) considers the interplay between genetics, lifestyle and the environment to improve disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment on a population level-thereby delivering the right interventions to the right populations at the right time. In this Review, we explore the concept of PPH as the next generation of public health. We discuss the historical context of using individual-level data in public health interventions and examine recent advancements in how data from human and pathogen genomics and social, behavioral and environmental research, as well as artificial intelligence, have transformed public health.

To examine the association between scope-of-practice (SoP) regulations and racial disparities in pediatric mental health services. We used the National Survey of Children's Health (2016-2020; n = 33,790) to examine racial disparities in unmet mental health care needs and receipt of mental health medication between states with and without SoP expansions for psychologists and nurse practitioners (NP). Our primary outcomes were (1) unmet mental health care needs and (2) receipt of mental health medication.

Life expectancy of patients with a durable, continuous-flow left ventricular assist device (CF-LVAD) continues to increase. Despite significant improvements in the delivery of care for patients with these devices, hemocompatability-related adverse events (HRAEs) are still a concern and contribute to significant morbility and mortality when they occur. As such, dissemination of current best evidence and practices is of critical importance.

Background And Objectives: The lung and sleep health of adults is heavily influenced by early factors, both genetic and environmental; therefore, optimizing respiratory health begins in childhood. Multiple barriers impede improvements in lung and sleep health for children. First, the traditional siloing between general pediatric care in the community, pediatric pulmonary and sleep subspecialty care, and the research community limits the translation of knowledge into practice.

Monomethylation of lysine 20 of histone H4 (H4K20me1) is catalyzed by Set8 and thought to play important roles in many aspects of genome function that are mediated by H4K20me binding proteins. We interrogated this model in a developing animal by comparing in parallel the transcriptomes of , , and mutant We found that the gene expression profiles of and larvae are markedly different than larvae despite similar reductions in H4K20me1. mutant cells have a severely disrupted transcriptome and fail to proliferate in vivo, but these phenotypes are not recapitulated by mutation of , indicating that the developmental defects of animals are largely due to H4K20me1-independent effects on gene expression.
