Purpose: Residents function as important educators of dental students; however, they often have limited training in educational best-practices. Resident-as-teacher programs have been designed and implemented in other health professions to prepare residents to teach in clinic and classroom settings. In this research, we describe the design, implementation, and evaluation of a 2-day workshop for first-year advanced dental residents.

A common feature of many acute and chronic oral diseases is microbial-induced inflammation. Innate immune responses are the first line of defense against pathogenic microorganisms and are initiated by pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) that specifically recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns and danger-associated molecular patterns. The activation of certain PRRs can lead to the assembly of macromolecular oligomers termed , which are responsible for pro-inflammatory cytokine maturation and secretion and thus activate host inflammatory responses.

Oral mucosal diseases represent a significant health care burden, rendering a complex patient population in which interdisciplinary care among dermatologists, primary dental providers, and dental specialists is required for optimal care. Oral mucosal diseases often cause painful ulceration and blistering which can impede a patient's ability to perform dental home care and the dental professional's ability to deliver routine and complex treatment. It is crucial to consider the environment of the oral cavity.

Design thinking is increasingly applied in healthcare and health professions education to generate innovative solutions to difficult problems. The design thinking framework helps individuals approach problems with a user-centered focus; the emphasis is on understanding the user experience, their challenges, and possible design solutions that are aligned with their needs. In this twelve tips paper, we describe strategies that health professions educators can use to prepare for, conduct, and support design thinking.

Objectives: This study assessed effective doses (E) from conventional and stationary intraoral tomosynthesis (s-IOT) radiography for posterior bitewing (PBW) examinations and evaluated the effect of sensor attenuation.
Study Design: An adult human tissue-equivalent phantom and optically stimulated luminescent dosimeters were used. Series of 4 PBW radiographs were acquired with circular and rectangular collimation.

Background: White spot lesions (WSLs) are common adverse effects in fixed orthodontic treatment. Remineralising agents are widely used to prevent WSLs formation and are the first-line treatment for existing WSLs. Previous systematic reviews have evaluated the effectiveness of remineralisation agents in the management of WSLs.

Stem cells in stratified epithelia are generally believed to adhere to a non-hierarchical single-progenitor model. Using lineage tracing and genetic label-retention assays, we show that the hard palatal epithelium of the oral cavity is unique in displaying marked proliferative heterogeneity. We identify a previously uncharacterized, infrequently-dividing stem cell population that resides within a candidate niche, the junctional zone (JZ).

Background: It is recognized that eating disorders are serious psychosocial illnesses that affect many adolescents and adults. A pre and post survey study was developed to assess demographics, oral health knowledge and self-image of patients with eating disorders participating in a hospital-based eating disorder clinic using an original oral health education program. The program's aim is to change the self-image and oral health practices of patients with anorexia-binge eating/purging (AN-BP) and bulimia nervosa (BN) disorders.
