BMAA and its isomers, DAB and AEG, are toxins mainly produced by cyanobacterial blooms and represent an emerging risk worldwide. Anthropization and climate changes are expanding blooms and the presence of these toxins has been evidenced in different environments including water and air. Investigated since decades, BMAA is a recognized danger in cases of bioaccumulation or when directly exposed to relatively high doses (μg/L).

Bad dream, nightmares and psychopathology: a systematic review.

Front Psychiatry

October 2024

Emotions, Neurocognition and Therapeutic Behavioral Approaches (ENACT) Team, University of Nîmes, Social Psychology Laboratory, Aix-Marseille University, Nîmes, France.

Objective: Bad dreams and nightmares can have a strong psychological impact. However, although the scientific literature points in the direction of an established association between nightmares and psychopathology, many of the studies investigating these links have been carried out on a general population. This systematic literature review aimed to identify studies that have used a sample from a population with a diagnosis of psychopathological disorders or a diagnosis of nightmare disorder, to highlight the state of knowledge concerning the link between bad dreams, nightmares, and psychopathology.

The increasing concern over the environmental presence of β-N-Methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA), a toxin primarily produced by cyanobacteria and diatoms, has stimulated numerous studies to evaluate the risk for exposed populations, mainly aquatic organisms and humans. This study focuses on the toxicity of environmental concentrations of BMAA and its isomers, l-2,4 diaminobutyric acid dihydrochloride (DAB) and N-(2-aminoethyl) glycine (AEG) on zebrafish embryo development (ng.L).

Unveiling the intricate relationships between animal movement ecology, feeding behavior, and internal energy budgeting is crucial for a comprehensive understanding of ecosystem functioning, especially on coral reefs under significant anthropogenic stress. Here, herbivorous fishes play a vital role as mediators between algae growth and coral recruitment. Our research examines the feeding preferences, bite rates, inter-bite distances, and foraging energy expenditure of the Brown surgeonfish () and the Yellowtail tang () within the fish community on a Red Sea coral reef.

Background: There is ample evidence that most children do not perform enough physical activity (PA). To address this major public health problem, the French government implemented 30 minutes of daily PA (DPA) at schools but did not provide any supplemental resources or concrete guidance. Considering both children's interest in video games and the need for teachers to complete their curriculum, the use of a learning-based exergame that combines PA and learning appears particularly relevant.

Colistin is considered as the last-resort antibiotics to treat multi-drug resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections in humans. However, the clinical use of colistin was limited because of the apparition of chromosomal mutations and mobile colistin resistance genes in bacterial isolates. One promising strategy is to combine existing antibiotics with promising non-antibiotics to overcome the widespread emergence of antibiotic-resistant pathogens.
