There is a global initiative to reduce the use of restrictive care practices in mental health settings. Variations in the reported rates across regions complicate the understanding of their use and tracking trends over time. However, it remains unclear whether these discrepancies reflect real differences in the implementation of these practices or are sourced from inconsistencies in incident classification and reporting methods.

Malaria, caused by Plasmodium parasites, is a global health concern. Natural products, such as plant extracts, are investigated for new antimalarial agents. Spondias mombin, traditionally used for medicinal purposes, was examined for its effects on parasitemia, hematological parameters, antioxidant activities, liver function biomarkers, and serum electrolytes in Plasmodium berghei-infected mice.

Context: The world over, there has been a paradigm shift in medical education from the traditional curriculum to Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME), of which the application of standard setting in assessments is an integral part. Standard setting is the process used to define an acceptable level of performance and to establish a pass score for the defined levels of performance in the competency domains assessed by an examination.
Aims: This study was designed to assess the opinions and experiences of key judges for implementation of standard setting and to outline its prospects from their perspective.

Background: Maternal dyslipidemia is one of the consistent metabolic changes during pregnancy. There is a controversy as to whether maternal lipid disturbances in early pregnancy are associated with adverse maternal and perinatal outcome.
Aim: To determine the effects of maternal dyslipidemia on maternal and perinatal outcomes.

Aim: Natural flavonoids have powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities against neurodegenerative diseases. Fisetin is a powerful flavonoid that targets a variety of neurological disorders. Aluminum (Al) has been linked to several neurological conditions, such as Parkinsons disease, autism, and Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Despite global efforts encouraging institutional deliveries with skilled attendants, many pregnant women in developing countries such as Nigeria continue to rely on traditional birth attendants (TBAs) for child delivery. Attempts at weeding off TBAs have been firmly resisted by their clients who have developed confidence and trust in their services and herald them as first and trusted responders to child delivery cases. Unfortunately, recent evidence has shown that TBAs in servicing public trust and for other reasons, often do not timely refer their clients to the closest source of formal healthcare-primary healthcare centres (PHCs).

Pollution from fossil fuel usage coupled with its unsustainability is currently instigating a global drive for affordable and eco-friendly alternatives. A feasible replacement seems to be microbial biofuels. However, the production cost is still high, partly due to the cost of substrates and media.

Setting: This study is a retrospective review of a large-scale systematic TB screening project conducted in six states of Nigeria.
Objective: To determine the magnitude and characteristics of subclinical TB and the relative contributions of bacteriological versus clinical diagnosis in its identification in Nigeria.
Design: Data were retrospectively analysed from six states of Nigeria, where parallel screening with any TB symptoms and chest X-ray (CXR) with artificial intelligence (AI) was used for active case finding.

This study examined the effectiveness of music storytelling communication intervention in promoting the acceptance of caesarean section (CS) among families in rural areas. The families were randomly assigned to control groups, music storytelling and non-music storytelling. The result showed that although the families reported a negative perception of CS at baseline and rejected it as a delivery option, this changed significantly after the intervention.

The role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education has been extensively studied, focusing on its ability to enhance learning and teaching processes. However, the precise impact of AI adoption on academic performance in open and distance learning (ODL) remains largely unexplored. This systematic literature review critically evaluates AI's impact on academic performance within ODL environments.

Hospitals and healthcare workers in Africa, and Nigeria specifically, are increasingly being confronted by complex situations, in which decision-making becomes more troublesome in the presence of conflicting goals, values, and preferences among the respective stakeholders. Given that all healthcare decision-making requires ethical considerations, and there is a noted absence or paucity of documentation of institutionalized mechanisms for addressing any associated concern or dilemma in Nigeria, it is thus unclear how most hospitals, healthcare workers, and the public handle the ethical dimensions of patients' care and hospital practice, while also generating possibilities for improvement in care quality. This paper is an attempt to heighten awareness of the need for clinical ethics support services (CESS) in Nigeria and encourage thought, reflection and dialogue over the issues raised.

Context: This work presents analytical expressions for ro-vibrational energy models of diatomic molecules by introducing fractional parameters to improve molecular interaction analysis. Thermodynamic models, including Helmholtz free energy, mean thermal energy, entropy, and isochoric heat capacity, are formulated for diatomic molecules such as CO (X ∑), Cs (3 ∑), K (X ∑), Li (6 Π), Li (1 Δ), Na (5 Δ), Na (C(2) Π), and NaK (c ∑). The incorporation of fractional parameters improves predictive accuracy for vibrational energies, as shown by reductions in percentage average absolute deviations from 0.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a serious global health issue, aggravated by antibiotic overuse and misuse in human medicine, animal care, and agriculture. This study looks at the different mechanisms that drive AMR, such as environmental contamination, horizontal gene transfer, and selective pressure, as well as the severe implications of AMR for human and animal health. This study demonstrates the need for concerted efforts across the scientific, healthcare, agricultural, and policy sectors to control the emergence of AMR.

Frequent use of colistin (COL) and tetracyclines in the Nigerian poultry sector potentially triggers bacterial resistance against COL and tigecycline (TIG), which are last-line antibiotics used to treat multidrug-resistant infections. This study aimed to isolate COL- and TIG-resistant . from commercial day-old chicks distributed to poultry farmers in Nsukka Southeastern Nigeria, assess the production of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) and carbapenemase by the isolates, and establish their pathogenic potentials.
