Objective: Lifestyle is an important determinant of health. The intervention allows mental health clinicians to address lifestyle during routine mental health encounters.
Method: Clinicians were taught how to encourage consumers to learn more about lifestyle and health; consider their own lifestyle and health using a self-rated health and wellness questionnaire (HAWQ) and helped them decide which out of six health domains (physical, mental and social activity, healthy eating, mental wellbeing and positive thinking) should be improved in small, sustainable steps using a SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timed) goal-setting template.

The escalating contamination caused by lead ions (Pb⁺) and its harmful effects on all life forms has raised global concerns. Certain microalgae thrive in metal mining sites characterized by low pH and high concentrations of Pb⁺, which are usually prohibitive for many microorganisms. Little is known about the mechanisms underlying the adaptation of such microalgae to these hostile conditions.

Nanomedicines have created a paradigm shift in healthcare. Yet fundamental barriers still exist that prevent or delay the clinical translation of nanomedicines. Critical hurdles inhibiting clinical success include poor understanding of nanomedicines' physicochemical properties, limited exposure in the cell or tissue of interest, poor reproducibility of preclinical outcomes in clinical trials, and biocompatibility concerns.

Background: Ethiopia's health system is overwhelmed by the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). In this study, we assessed the availability of and readiness for NCD services and the interaction of NCD services with other essential and non-NCD services.
Methods: The analysis focused on four main NCD services: diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, chronic respiratory diseases, and cancer screening.

Cyclic nucleoside phosphates have been shown previously to be adequately activated to oligomerise under dry conditions. Herein, it is demonstrated that 3',5'-cyclic adenosine monophosphate (3',5'-cAMP) and glycine when subjected to dehydration under alkaline conditions form phosphoramidate-linked conjugates. Solid-state reaction mechanisms investigated by DFT suggest why the reaction does not occur efficiently in the aqueous phase.

To determine if basal linear deposit (BLinD) is a specific lesion of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The cohort was selected from a clinically and histopathologically validated archive (Sarks Archive) and consisted of 10 eyes (age 55-80 years) without any macular basal laminar deposit (BLamD) (Sarks Group I) and 16 eyes (age 57-88 years) with patchy BLamD (Sarks Group II). Only eyes with in vivo fundus assessment and corresponding high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrographs of the macula were included.

Parcellation of human cerebellar pathways is essential for advancing our understanding of the human brain. Existing diffusion magnetic resonance imaging tractography parcellation methods have been successful in defining major cerebellar fibre tracts, while relying solely on fibre tract structure. However, each fibre tract may relay information related to multiple cognitive and motor functions of the cerebellum.

Electric discharge occurs ubiquitously in both natural and engineered systems, where the discharge paths provide critical information. However, control and visualization of discharge patterns is a challenging task. Here arrays of liquid metal marbles, droplets of a gallium-indium eutectic alloy with a copper-doped ZnS luminescent coating, are designed for pixelated visualization of electric discharge paths at optical imaging length-scales.

Background: The Stop Cancer PAIN Trial was a phase III pragmatic stepped wedge cluster randomised controlled trial which compared effectiveness of screening and guidelines with or without implementation strategies for improving pain in adults with cancer attending six Australian outpatient comprehensive cancer centres (n = 688). A system for pain screening was introduced before observation of a 'control' phase. Implementation strategies introduced in the 'intervention' phase included: (1) audit of adherence to guideline recommendations, with feedback to clinical teams; (2) health professional education via an email-administered 'spaced education' module; and (3) a patient education booklet and self-management resource.

A 42-year-old Caucasian man developed left homonymous hemianopia 16 days after receipt of a live-attenuated 17D-204 yellow fever virus vaccine. MRI imaging of the brain revealed right occipital and left parieto-occipital lesions with marked hyperintensity consistent with demyelination, and a diagnosis of yellow fever vaccine-associated acute disseminated encephalomyelitis was made.

More than two million people worldwide are affected by life-threatening, invasive fungal infections annually. Candida species are the most common cause of nosocomial, invasive fungal infections and are associated with mortality rates above 40%. Despite the increasing incidence of drug-resistance, the development of novel antifungal formulations has been limited.

With increasing antibiotic resistance and hospital acquired microbial infections, there has been a growing interest to explore alternate antimicrobial approaches. This is particularly challenging when aiming to protect surfaces over a large area to avoid contact mediated infection transmission. Quorum sensing (QS) inhibition has emerged as an alternate antimicrobial approach overcoming evolutionary stress driven resistance observed in antibiotic treatment.

Talking about dying when faced with end-of-life may be important for achieving optimal outcomes for young people and their families. Given the lack of research on young people's communication around end-of-life and death, this analogue study examined the role of attachment theory in conversations about dying. Experiment 1 assessed attachment security of 80 healthy young adults and randomised them to receive either an induction that raised awareness of one's attachment figures or a neutral induction, and then primed them with an imagined scenario where they were diagnosed with an incurable illness.

Understanding the regulatory mechanisms of gene expression is a crucial objective in genomics. Although the DNA sequence near the transcription start site (TSS) offers valuable insights, recent methods suggest that analyzing only the surrounding DNA may not suffice to accurately predict gene expression levels. We developed GENet (Gene Expression Network from Histone and Transcription Factor Integration), a novel approach that integrates essential regulatory signals from transcription factors and histone modifications into a graph-based model.

Conventional diagnostic tools for prostate cancer (PCa), such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA), transrectal ultrasound (TRUS), digital rectal examination (DRE), and tissue biopsy face, limitations in individual risk stratification due to invasiveness or reliability issues. Liquid biopsy is a less invasive and more accurate alternative. Metabolomic analysis of extracellular vesicles (EVs) holds a promise for detecting non-genetic alterations and biomarkers in PCa diagnosis and risk assessment.
