Purpose: To understand diversity, inclusion, and capacity of genetic counselors (GCs) in Australasia (Australia and New Zealand).

Methods: Individuals with or working toward a GC qualification in Australasia were invited to complete an online survey, between November 2022 and March 2023. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, 1-sample proportion -tests, 2-sample -tests, and χ tests.

Patients' experiences of subacute pain management following total hip or knee arthroplasty: A qualitative study.

Background: Total hip and knee arthroplasties are common surgeries performed worldwide, but the management of pain during the subacute period (defined as hospital discharge to 3 months postoperatively) is poorly understood. This study aimed to determine patients' experiences, facilitators and barriers to subacute pain management following total hip or knee arthroplasty.

Methods: Semi-structured interviews with a purposive sample of patients following total hip or knee arthroplasty were conducted between June and August 2022.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) significantly contributes to acute ischaemic stroke (AIS), yet its precise influence on clinical outcomes post-intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) and post-endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) has remained elusive. Furthermore, the overall prevalence of AF in AIS patients undergoing reperfusion therapy has not been clearly determined. Employing random-effects meta-analyses, this research aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence of AF among AIS patients undergoing reperfusion therapy, while also examining the association between AF and clinical outcomes such as functional outcomes, symptomatic intracerebral haemorrhage (sICH) and mortality.

Risks of Ventricular Arrhythmia and Heart Failure in Carriers of Variants.

Background: Variants in are reported in 2% to 6% of familial cases of dilated cardiomyopathy and may be associated with fatal ventricular arrhythmia and rapid heart failure progression. We sought to determine the risk of adverse events in variant carriers and the impact of sex on outcomes.

Methods: Consecutive probands and relatives carrying variants were retrospectively recruited from 12 cardiomyopathy units.

Background: The impact of survivorship care plans (SCPs) on the proximal and distal outcomes of adult and childhood cancer survivors, and parent proxies, is unclear. This study aimed to determine the relationship between SCP receipt and these outcomes.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey of adult and childhood cancer survivors (and parent proxies for survivors aged younger than 16 years) across Australia and New Zealand was conducted.

BRAF-mediated brain tumors in adults and children: A review and the Australian and New Zealand experience.

The mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway signaling pathway is one of the most commonly mutated pathways in human cancers. In particular, BRAF alterations result in constitutive activation of the rapidly accelerating fibrosarcoma-extracellular signal-regulated kinase-MAPK significant pathway, leading to cellular proliferation, survival, and dedifferentiation. The role of BRAF mutations in oncogenesis and tumorigenesis has spurred the development of targeted agents, which have been successful in treating many adult cancers.

The Exocrine Pancreas in Cystic Fibrosis in the Era of CFTR Modulation: A Mini Review.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a common disorder of autosomal recessive inheritance, that once conferred a life expectancy of only a few months. Over recent years, significant advances have been made to CF therapeutic approaches, changing the face of the disease, and facilitating the partial restoration of pancreatic function. This mini review summarizes the current landscape of exocrine pancreatic management in CF and explores areas for future direction and development.
