Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of a hands-on simulation-based course with emphasis on procedural techniques, clinical reasoning, and communication skills developed to improve junior Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) residents' preparedness in managing otolaryngologic emergencies.
Methods: Junior OHNS residents and faculty from residency programs in California, Nevada, and Arizona participated in this workshop in 2020 and 2021. The stations featured airway management techniques, ultrasound-guided needle aspiration, nasoseptal hematoma evacuation, and facial fracture repair using various models and cadavers.

T cells are a primary component of the vertebrate adaptive immune system. There are three mammalian T cell lineages based on their T cell receptors (TCR). The αβ T cells and γδ T cells are ancient and found broadly in vertebrates.

We show the importance of attenuating the energy gap between localized NN radical and chromophoric excited states to control both the magnitude and sign of the optically-generated ESP, and to provide deeper insight into the details of the ESP mechanism. Understanding electronic structure contributions to optically generated ESP will enhance our ability to control the nature of prepared states for a variety of quantum information science applications, where strong ESP facilitates enhanced sensitivity and readout capabilities at low applied magnetic fields and higher temperatures.

We have an operant model of reaching and grasping in which detrimental bone remodeling is observed rather than beneficial adaptation when rats perform a high-repetition, high-force (HRHF) task long term. Here, adult female Sprague-Dawley rats performed an intense HRHF task for 18 weeks, which we have shown induces radial trabecular bone osteopenia. One cohort was euthanized at this point (to assay the bone changes post task; HRHF-Untreated).

Here, we asked whether differences in soil moisture are a source of variation in Sahara mustard (). We subjected common garden populations of plants derived from native, invasive, and landrace sources (ranges) to varying water addition treatments.

2D nanoscale confined systems exhibit behavior that is markedly different from that observed at the macroscale. Confinement can be tuned by controlling the interlayer spacing between confining layers using organic dithiol linkers. Adjusting spacing and selective intercalation have important impacts for catalysis, superconductivity, spin engineering, sodium ion batteries, 2D magnets, optoelectronics, and many other applications.

We report the first instance of observing the phototriggered isomerization of dmso ligands on a bis sulfoxide complex, [Ru(bpy)(dmso)], in the crystalline solid state. The solid-state UV-vis spectrum of the crystal demonstrates an increase in optical density around 550 nm after irradiation, which is consistent with the solution isomerization results. Digital images of the crystal before and after irradiation display a notable color change (pale orange to red) and cleavage occurs along planes, (1̄01) and (100), during irradiation.

Institutional policy, culture, and physical layout may be inadvertently fostering ableism, which can perpetuate health care inaccessibility and health disparities in the disability community. Here, we present evidence-based interventions at the provider and institutional levels to accommodate patients with hearing, vision, and intellectual disabilities.

Objective: Facial palsy affects patients of all backgrounds, yet no existing studies describe differences in its treatment patterns between demographic groups.
Methods: We used the National Surgical Quality Improvement Project database to investigate whether race and sex disparities exist in facial reanimation surgery. Patients were identified using CPT codes corresponding to facial-nerve procedures.

Background: Mutational signatures computed from somatic mutations, allow an in-depth understanding of tumorigenesis and may illuminate early prevention strategies. Many studies have shown the regulation effects between somatic mutation and gene expression dysregulation.
Methods: We hypothesized that there are potential associations between mutational signature and gene expression.
Academic searching is integral to research activities: (1) searching to retrieve specific information, (2) to expand our knowledge iteratively, (3) and to collate a representative and unbiased selection of the literature. Rigorous searching methods are vital for reliable, repeatable and unbiased searches needed for these second and third forms of searches (exploratory and systematic searching, respectively) that form a core part of evidence syntheses. Despite the broad awareness of the importance of transparency in reporting search activities in evidence syntheses, the importance of searching has been highlighted only recently and has been the explicit focus of reporting guidance (PRISMA-S).

Background Familial cerebral cavernous alformation (CCM) is an autosomal dominant disease caused by mutations in , , or . Cases typically present with multiple lesions, strong family history, and neurological symptoms, including seizures, headaches, or other deficits. Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is a severe manifestation of CCM, which can lead to death or long-term neurological deficits.

The past 10 years have seen an explosion of approaches that focus on the study of time-resolved change in functional connectivity (FC). FC characterization among networks at a whole-brain level is frequently termed functional network connectivity (FNC). Time-resolved or dynamic functional network connectivity (dFNC) focuses on the estimation of transient, recurring, whole-brain patterns of FNC.

In a bottom-up community process, EDI was built with the premise that freely and easily available data are necessary to advance the understanding of complex environmental processes and change, to improve transparency of research results, and to democratize ecological research. EDI provides tools and support that allow the environmental researcher to easily integrate data publishing into the research workflow.

Introduction: To evaluate the clinical validity of free water (FW), a diffusion tensor imaging-based biomarker kit proposed by the MarkVCID consortium, by investigating the association between mean FW (mFW) and executive function.
Methods: Baseline mFW was related to a baseline composite measure of executive function (EFC), adjusting for relevant covariates, in three MarkVCID sub-cohorts, and replicated in five, large, independent legacy cohorts. In addition, we tested whether baseline mFW predicted accelerated EFC score decline (mean follow-up time: 1.

The nature of the representation guiding spatial navigation has been investigated extensively; however, most of this work has used behavioral tasks that involved learning the location of food reward or an escape platform. In contrast, relatively few studies have focused on the spatial representation of a home base, a ubiquitous feature of open-field behavior, and its ability to be encoded relative to environmental cues. The current set of experiments investigated acquisition and retention of the location of home base establishment.
