The results of Dang et al.'s recent systematic review and meta-analysis suggested that individuals diagnosed with other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED) and those diagnosed with specified eating disorders (EDs, such as bulimia nervosa) endorse similar, elevated levels of ED-related cognitions (but not behaviors). The DSM has traditionally conceptualized EDs primarily as disturbances in eating behavior, and the diagnostic boundaries for EDs are based on objective markers, such as behavioral frequencies and weight.

Department of Agronomy, University of Almería, Carretera de Sacramento s/n, 04120, Almería, Spain; Research Centre for Scientific Collections from the University of Almeria (CECOUAL), Carretera de Sacramento s/n, 04120, Almería, Spain; ECO-ARID, UAL, Unidad Asociada al CSIC por la EEZA, 04120, Almería, Spain.

Low restoration success in degraded drylands has promoted research efforts towards recovery of pioneer components of these ecosystems such as biocrusts. Biocrusts can stabilize soils and improve nutrient cycling to assist vegetation establishment, but their natural recovery following a disturbance may be very slow. Soil inoculation with biocrust-forming components such as cyanobacteria is widely spread to foster biocrust formation.

From early on, infants show a preference for infant-directed speech (IDS) over adult-directed speech (ADS), and exposure to IDS has been correlated with language outcome measures such as vocabulary. The present multi-laboratory study explores this issue by investigating whether there is a link between early preference for IDS and later vocabulary size. Infants' preference for IDS was tested as part of the ManyBabies 1 project, and follow-up CDI data were collected from a subsample of this dataset at 18 and 24 months.

September 2024

Department of Internal Medicine, Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV, University of Nevada Las Vegas, 1701 W Charleston Blvd, Suite 230, Las Vegas, NV 89102, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • Osteoporosis and periodontal disease significantly affect post-menopausal women, leading to serious health issues like bone fractures and mental health complications.
  • A study involving 100 post-menopausal women aimed to explore how oral health relates to bone diseases, particularly looking at factors that could predict this association.
  • Results indicated that while oral health may seem related to bone loss, only age, BMI, and past fractures were significant predictors, suggesting that periodontal disease alone may not directly contribute to bone loss but could share common risk factors.

In the present report, we have described the synthesis of N-aminopolyhydroquinoline (N-PHQ) derivatives using highly efficient -cyclodextrin (-CD) as a catalyst by the Hantzsch condensation of substituted aromatic aldehydes, dimedone, and hydrazine hydrate in one pot. The reactions were completed in a shorter time without the generation of any other byproduct. The synthesized N-PHQs were washed thoroughly with distilled water and recrystallized with ethanol to get highly purified products (as crystals).

September 2024

Chemical Processes and Materials Research Group, Just Transition Lab, Centre for Energy Transition, School of Engineering, University of Aberdeen, King's College, Aberdeen AB24 3UE, UK.

In this work, we describe the phase behaviour and the dielectric and conductivity response of new light-responsive ionic liquid crystals, ILCs, which can be applied as controllable electrolytes. The materials include two different dicationic viologens, the asymmetric 6BP18 and the symmetric EV2ON(Tf), containing bistriflimide as the counterions, mixed with 5% and 50% molar, respectively, of one new photoresponsive mesogen called CNAzO14. These mixtures exhibit liquid crystal behaviour, light responsiveness through the - photoisomerisation of the azobenzene groups in CNAzO14, and strong dielectric responses.

The magnetically recoverable heterogeneous FeO@cellulose@Mn nanocomposite was synthesized by a stepwise fabrication of Mn nanoparticles on cellulose-modified magnetic FeO nanocomposites, and the morphology of the nanocomposite was characterized through advanced spectroscopic techniques. This nanocomposite was investigated as a heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of medicinally important tetrazole derivatives through Knoevenagel condensation between aromatic/heteroaromatic aldehyde and malononitrile followed by [3+2] cycloaddition reaction with sodium azide. Thirteen potent ()-1-aryl-2-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)acrylonitrile derivatives are reported in this paper with very high yields (up to 98%) and with excellent purity (as crystals) in a very short period (3 min @ 120 W) using microwave irradiation.
