Background: The study compared the readability, grade level, understandability, actionability, and accuracy of standard patient educational material against artificial intelligence chatbot-derived patient educational material regarding cirrhosis.
Methods: An identical standardized phrase was used to generate patient educational materials on cirrhosis from 4 large language model-derived chatbots (ChatGPT, DocsGPT, Google Bard, and Bing Chat), and the outputs were compared against a pre-existing human-derived educational material (Epic). Objective scores for readability and grade level were determined using Flesch-Kincaid and Simple Measure of Gobbledygook scoring systems.

Prediabetes is a risk factor for ischemic stroke in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients, yet, its impact on recurrent stroke in AF patients remains understudied. Using the 2018 National Inpatient Sample, we investigated the link between Prediabetes and recurrent stroke in AF patients with prior stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA). Among 18,905 non-diabetic AF patients, 480 (2.

The phosphatidylinositol (PI3K)/AKT/mTOR axis represents an important therapeutic target to treat human cancers. A well-described downstream target of the PI3K pathway is the forkhead box O (FOXO) transcription factor family. FOXOs have been implicated in many cellular responses, including drug-induced resistance in cancer cells.

Coronary artery aneurysms (CAA) are defined as a dilation of a coronary vessel greater than 1.5 times the diameter of a local reference vessel. While CAAs tend to be incidental findings on imaging, they result in complications, such as thrombosis, embolization, ischemia, arrhythmias, and heart failure.

Despite the advancements in the management of heart failure, acute heart failure is one of the most common causes of mortality and morbidity. In light of the financial burden imposed by heart failure hospitalizations on the health care system, this area remains the focus of research, clinical advances, and policy changes aimed at improving the quality of care and outcomes. Despite practice guidelines, high-quality trial data, and consensus statements, barriers to therapy remain.

The use of methamphetamines is growing worldwide with cardiovascular disease as the leading cause of mortality and morbidity. Long-term use of methamphetamines is associated with malignant hypertension, myocardial ischemia, pulmonary hypertension, and methamphetamines-associated cardiomyopathy. These effects are noted to be dose-dependent and potentially reversible with discontinuation of methamphetamines in the early stages when there is limited or no myocardial fibrosis.

Introduction: As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and highly contagious nature of SARS-CoV-2, emergency departments (EDs) have been forced to implement new measures and protocols to minimize the spread of the disease within their departments. The primary objective of this study was to determine if the implementation of a designated COVID-19 cohort area (hot zone) within a busy ED mitigated the dissemination of SARS-CoV-2 throughout the rest of the department.
Methods: In an ED of a tertiary academic medical center, with 64,000 annual visits, an eight room pod was designated for known COVID-19 or individuals with high suspicion for infection.

Objective: Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer and the leading cause of cancer-related death among Latina women in the United States. One aspect of recovery that has been underrepresented in the English-language literature is the recovery of Latina women who have developed lymphedema, a debilitating condition characterized by persistent swelling of the arm, hand, chest, and/or breast. To fill this research gap, a study was conducted to examine the lived experiences of Latina women with breast cancer-related lymphedema.

In the context of internal medicine, "triage" is a newly popularized term that refers to constellation of activities related to determining the most appropriate disposition plans for patients, including assessing patients for admissions into the inpatient medicine service. The physician or "triagist" plays a critical role in the transition of care from the outpatient to the inpatient settings, yet little literature exists addressing this particular transition. The importance of this set of responsibilities has evolved over time as health systems become increasingly complex to navigate for physicians and patients.

Anal fissure (fissure-in-ano) is a very common anorectal condition. The exact etiology of this condition is debated; however, there is a clear association with elevated internal anal sphincter pressures. Though hard bowel movements are implicated in fissure etiology, they are not universally present in patients with anal fissures.
