Silybin is a natural compound extensively studied for its hepatoprotective, neuroprotective and anticancer properties. Envisioning the enhancement of silybin potential by suitable modifications in its chemical structure, here, a series of new 7--alkyl silybins derivatives were synthesized by the Mitsunobu reaction starting from the silybins and tyrosol-based phenols, such as tyrosol (TYR, ), 3-methoxytyrosol (MTYR, ), and 3-hydroxytyrosol (HTYR, ). In this study, we present a mathematical model for plasmid spread in a growing biofilm, formulated as a nonlocal system of partial differential equations in a 1-D free boundary domain. Plasmids are mobile genetic elements able to transfer to different phylotypes, posing a global health problem when they carry antibiotic resistance factors. The combination of plasmonic nanoparticles and hydrogels results in nanocomposite materials with unprecedented properties that give rise to powerful platforms for optical biosensing. Herein, we propose a physicochemical characterization of plasmonic hydrogel nanocomposites made of polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA) hydrogels with increasing molecular weights (700-10000 Da) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs, ∼60 nm).
