This study sought to identify factors associated with objectively assessed exercise behavior in Chinese patients with early-stage cancer. Three hundred and fifty one cancer patients were recruited from the Affiliated Jiangyin Hospital of Southeast University Medical College and the Nantong Tumor Hospital. One-way ANOVA, Pearson Chi-square tests and regression analysis were employed to identify the correlations between physical exercise and the measured factors.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to create and validate a Chinese version of the Benefit Finding Scale (BFS) for early-stage cancer patients, taking cultural differences into account.
  • The adaptation involved translating the scale, testing it on two groups of patients, and assessing its reliability and validity through various statistical methods.
  • Results showed that the Chinese BFS was well-received, scored highly on psychometric measures, and identified key factors influencing benefit finding related to sociodemographic and disease-related aspects.

This data article contains complementary figures and results related to the research article entitled "butylated hydroxyanisole induces distinct expression patterns of Nrf2 and detoxification enzymes in the liver and small intestine of C57BL/6 mice" (Luo et al., 2015 [1]), which defined the basal and butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA)-induced expression patterns of Phase II enzymes Nqo1, AKR1B8, and Ho-1 in the liver and small intestine of C57BL/6 mice. Sulforaphane [1-isothiocyanato-4-(methylsulfinyl)butane] (SFN), a naturally occurring isothiocyanate derived from cruciferous vegetables, is a highly potent inducer of phase II cytoprotective enzymes.

Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) is widely used as an antioxidant and preservative in food, food packaging and medicines. Its chemopreventive properties are attributing to its ability to activate the transcription factor NF-E2 p45-related factor 2 (Nrf2), which directs central genetic programs of detoxification and protection against oxidative stress. This study was to investigate the histological changes of Nrf2 and its regulated phase II enzymes Nqo1, AKR1B8, and Ho-1 in wild-type (WT) and Nrf2(-/-) mice induced by BHA.

Article Synopsis
  • T-cell lymphoproliferative neoplasms (T-LPN) are tough diseases to treat because current medicines aren't very targeted and can cause bad side effects.
  • Researchers found that a special combination of two drugs, GSI and bortezomib (BTZ), could work better together to help treat T-LPN.
  • Their experiments showed that this combo not only stopped T-LPN cells from growing but also shrank tumors in mice, suggesting it could be a promising new treatment.

Cyclic Helix B Peptide in Preservation Solution and Autologous Blood Perfusate Ameliorates Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Isolated Porcine Kidneys.

Transplant Direct

March 2015

Transplant Group, Department of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation, University of Leicester, Leicester General Hospital, University Hospitals of Leicester, United Kingdom.; Renal Group, Basic Medical Research Centre; Department of Nephrology, Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University, University of Nantong, Nantong, People's Republic of China.

Unlabelled: There is a critical need to better preserve isolated organs before transplantation. We developed a novel nonerythropoiesis cyclic helix B peptide (CHBP) derived from erythropoietin, which has potent tissue protection and prolonged serum stability. The renoprotection and potential mechanism of CHBP were evaluated in a kidney preservation model.

The naked small interfering RNA (siRNA) of caspase-3, a key player in ischemia reperfusion injury, was effective in cold preserved and hemoreperfused kidneys, but not autotransplanted kidneys in our porcine models. Here, chemically modified serum stabilized caspase-3 siRNAs were further evaluated. The left kidney was retrieved and infused by University of Wisconsin solution with/without 0.

Protective effects of HBSP on ischemia reperfusion and cyclosporine a induced renal injury.

Clin Dev Immunol

June 2014

Department of Pathology and Comparative Medicine Institute, University of Nantong, Nantong, Jiangsu 226001, China.

Ischemia reperfusion (IR) and cyclosporine A (CsA) injuries are unavoidable in kidney transplantation and are associated with allograft dysfunction. Herein, the effect and mechanism of a novel tissue protective peptide, helix B surface peptide (HBSP) derived from erythropoietin, were investigated in a rat model. The right kidney was subjected to 45 min ischemia, followed by left nephrectomy and 2-week reperfusion, with or without daily treatment of CsA 25 mg/kg and/or HBSP 8 nmol/kg.

Due to the battery resource constraints, saving energy is a critical issue in wireless sensor networks, particularly in large sensor networks. One possible solution is to deploy multiple sink nodes simultaneously. Another possible solution is to employ an adaptive clustering hierarchy routing scheme.
