d-glycero-d-manno-Heptose-1β,7-bisphosphate (HBP) is a bacterial metabolite that can induce a TIFA-dependent innate immune response in mammals. It was recently discovered that after HBP enters into the cytoplasm of the host cell, it is transformed into ADP-heptose-7-phosphate, which then leads to ALPK1-TIFA-dependent inflammatory response. In order to provide a molecular tool allowing the discovery of the proteins involved in this novel inflammatory pathway, we designed and synthesized a biotinylated analogue of HBP.

In stocking program, the use of artificial incubation conditions in hatcheries from the fertilisation of eggs to the release of unfed fry could reduce their ability to adapt to the natural environment. This study evaluates the effects of three factors on the fitness and physiology of salmon fry at their emergence, the origin of water (river vs drilling), the type of support in the incubator (support matrix vs plastic sheets) and the type of incubators (Californian vs vertical trays), and compares them to a semi-natural incubation method in river. Key biological functions including nutritional and immune status were compared among experimental conditions using biometric parameters, lipid composition and gene expression analyses.

Cancer progression largely depends on tumor blood vessels as well on immune cell infiltration. In various tumors, vascular cells, namely endothelial cells (ECs) and pericytes, strongly regulate leukocyte infiltration into tumors and immune cell activation, hence the immune response to cancers. Recently, a lot of compelling studies unraveled the molecular mechanisms by which tumor vascular cells regulate monocyte and tumor-associated macrophage (TAM) recruitment and phenotype, and consequently tumor progression.

The placenta can be regarded as a mirror of the events to which the fetus is exposed during development. The placental proteome has been studied with several methodologies differing in sample handling, protein extraction, and processing. Four forms of a salt combining two antitubercular drugs, clofazimine and 4-aminosalicylic acid, are reported and the crystal structure of two of these forms are described. This study exploits the introduction of high subsidies for anti-malaria products in Senegal in 2009 to investigate whether malaria prevents parents from investing in child health. A simple model of health investments under competing mortality risks predicts that private expenses to fight malaria and other diseases should increase in response to anti-malaria public interventions. We test and validate this prediction using original panel data from a household expenditure survey combined with geographical information on malaria prevalence.

d-Glycero-d-manno-heptose-1β,7-bisphosphate (HBP) and d-glycero-d-manno-heptose-1β-phosphate (H1P) are bacterial metabolites that were recently shown to stimulate inflammatory responses in host cells through the activation of the TIFA-dependent NF-κB pathway. To better understand structure-based activity in relation to this process, a family of nonhydrolyzable phosphonate analogues of HBP and H1P was synthesized. The inflammation modulation by which these molecules induce the TIFA-NF-κB signal axis was evaluated in vivo at a low-nanomolar concentration (6 nM) and compared to that of the natural metabolites.

Early-life exposure to different stressors can lead to various consequences on fish health status in later life development. To evaluate the effects of Aeromonas salmonicida achromogenes infection in the early-life on immunity in adulthood, zebrafish were either early-infected at 18 days post-fertilization (dpf), chronically infected from 18 to 35 dpf, or late infected at 35 dpf and then grown up to 61 dpf to be re-infected with the pathogen. The age of first infection was shown to influence both, level and timing of the immune gene expressions, especially for inflammation-related genes.
