Functional coactivation between human brain regions is partly explained by white matter connections; however, how the structure-function relationship varies by function remains unclear. Here, we reference large data repositories to compute maps of structure-function correspondence across hundreds of specific functions and brain regions. We use natural language processing to accurately predict structure-function correspondence for specific functions and to identify macroscale gradients across the brain that correlate with structure-function correspondence as well as cortical thickness.

Introduction: Operculo-insular epilepsy (OIE) is a rare condition amenable to surgery in well-selected cases. Despite the high rate of neurological complications associated with OIE surgery, most postoperative deficits recover fully and rapidly. We provide insights into this peculiar pattern of functional recovery by investigating the longitudinal reorganization of structural networks after surgery for OIE in 10 patients.

Article Synopsis
  • - The text evaluates various elastography methods used to assess biomechanical properties of back muscles in patients with musculoskeletal disorders (MSKd), highlighting their reliability, validity, and responsiveness based on a meta-analysis of 79 studies involving 3,178 participants.
  • - Three elastography techniques were identified: strain imaging (SI), which showed good reliability and medium validity in detecting changes over time, and shear wave imaging (SWI), which also had strong reliability and even higher responsiveness, particularly in detecting between-group changes.
  • - The findings indicate that while elastography methods can reliably distinguish patients with MSDk from controls, further long-term studies are needed to confirm their effectiveness in tracking changes over time between different patient groups, especially given the high heter

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated how the COVID-19 pandemic affected pregnancy outcomes in 443,101 patients who either conceived naturally or through assisted reproductive technology in Quebec, Canada, between December 2015 and July 2021.
  • It found that while assisted reproductive technology was linked to higher risks of preeclampsia, preterm birth, and low birth weight during the pandemic, similar risks were already present before the pandemic, indicating that COVID-19 itself may not have altered these outcomes significantly.
  • Overall, the research suggests that the pandemic did not have a major adverse effect on pregnancy outcomes for women using assisted reproductive technology, providing reassurance to patients concerned about fertility during this time.
