Impact of Nickel Toxicity on Growth, Fruit Quality and Antioxidant Response in Zucchini Squash ( L.).

Plants (Basel)

August 2024

Laboratory RME-Resources, Materials and Ecosystems, Faculty of Sciences of Bizerte, University of Carthage, Jarzouna, Bizerte 7021, Tunisia.

The impact of trace metal elements (TMEs) on plants is one current pollution problem, the severity of which is increasing with industrial development, population growth and inappropriate agricultural practices. The latter can have irreversible effects on ecosystems, including species extinction, trophic chain contamination and altered human health, particularly in the case of consumed plants such as zucchini squash ( L.).

leaves act as sensitive barometers for trace heavy metal pollution, as revealed by their pronounced anatomical responses in a constructed wetland. Monthly water samples and leaf tissue were collected over three consecutive months in 2018 from the Burgas Lake wetlands (Taoura), northeast Algeria. While physical and chemical parameters improved after treatment, atomic absorption spectrometry (Perkin Elmer A Analyst 800 AAS) detected persistent trace levels of cadmium, chromium, and lead in both the treated water and leaf tissue, highlighting the need for continued phytoremediation efforts.

The aim of this research was to highlight the impact of urbanization and agriculture on soil quality, mainly by focusing on heavy metal accumulation (Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn) in the fragile riparian ecosystems of the Medjerda river (Souk-Ahras, Algeria). This study was performed in three cultivated soils (0-10, 10-20, 20-60 cm depth) along an increasing gradient of anthropogenic pressure in non-urban (NU), peri-urban (PU) and urban areas (U). Geo-accumulation index (Igeo), Enrichment factor (EF), Pollution load index (PLI) and Potential ecological risk index (RI) were calculated, as well as the potential non-carcinogenic risk for humans (HI).

A New Way to the Synthesis of Tricyclic Compounds via Nitrone 1,3- cycloaddition Dipolar Reaction.

Curr Org Synth

March 2023

Laboratory of Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecosystems, Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry Group, University of Mohamed- Cherif Messaadia, Souk Ahras, 41000, Algeria.

Objective: This study aimed at developing new methodologies for 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition.

Methods: A new series of tricyclic derivatives (13a-d) were synthesized via 1, 3-dipolar cycloaddition of nitrones (8a-c) and (9a-c) using intramolecular cyclisation at the reflux of toluene and radical intramolecular cyclisation in the presence of tributyltin hydride and AIBN as an initiator in benzene, which are two techniques to prepare cycloadducts (11a-d), followed by cleavage of the N-O bond performed using Sml in THF.

Results: The structures of these new tricyclic derivatives have been confirmed by Mass, 1H-NMR (1d, 2d), 13C-NMR, and IR spectral data.

The first COVID-19 case in Algeria, was registered on February 25, 2020, it concerns an Italian national. On November 5, 2020, the total number of infected persons reached 60169 cases and keeps on rising to the point that the curve does not follow the normal law. The present work tries to illustrate another implication caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Antimicrobial resistance of isolates from cattle in Eastern Algeria.

Vet World

August 2019

Department of Veterinary Science, Institute of Agronomic and Veterinarian Sciences, University of Mohamed Cherif Messaâdia, Souk Ahras, Algeria.

Background And Aim: Lack of information about the antibiotic resistance in commensal from Algerian livestock prompted us to do this study to determine the different levels of antimicrobial susceptibility, antibiotic multidrug resistance (MDR) rates, and phenotypical patterns of strains isolated from healthy cattle to control the spread of animal-resistant strains to humans and the environment.

Materials And Methods: A total of 198 cattle were sampled (swabbed in the rectum), reared in the farms of Souk Ahras, Tebessa, and Oum el Bouaghi governorates of Eastern Algeria. Isolation of strains was performed on MacConkey agar and then the different strains were identified to the species level using an API 20E identification kit.

Acanthogyrus (Acanthosentis) maroccanus (Dollfus, 1951), an insufficiently described quadrigyrid acanthocephalan of cyprinid fishes from Northwest Africa, is redescribed based on recently collected specimens from the Algerian barb Luciobarbus callensis (Valenciennes) in Algeria. Newly observed morphological features for A. (A.

Aim: An investigation was carried out to assess the occurrence of diseases, its method of diagnosis, and commonly used drugs in poultry farms in North-Eastern regions of Algeria.

Materials And Methods: A total of 265 veterinary doctors were surveyed to obtain information on the dominant diseases, its frequency of occurrence, method of diagnosis, and commonly used drugs in poultry farms.

Results: A study revealed that about 68% of bacterial diseases are due to colibacillosis, mycoplasmosis, and salmonellosis, 22% of viral diseases are due to Newcastle, Gumboro, and infectious bronchitis, and 10% others including coccidiosis and ascites syndrome.

New equation for the computation of flow velocity in partially filled pipes arranged in parallel.

Water Sci Technol

September 2014

Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Sciences & Technology, University of Mohamed Cherif Messaadia, Souk Ahras, Algeria E-mail:

This paper presents a new approach for the computation of flow velocity in pipes arranged in parallel based on an analytic development. The estimation of the flow parameters using existing methods requires trial and error procedures. The assessment of flow velocity is of great importance in flow measurement methods and in the design of drainage networks, among others.

This study was carried out on five cattle groups, local, cross, Prim'Holstein, Montbeliard, and Brown of the Alps, in order to study the influence of breed on erythrocytes diameter. For each breed, blood samples were taken from 15 adult females by jugular venipuncture; blood smears were made on slides immediately after the blood collection and stained according to the method of May-Gründwald Giemsa. Morphometric study was realized using the OPTIKA Pro Vision software.
