Article Synopsis
  • The study identified bioactive compounds in the ethyl acetate fraction of plant aerial parts that exhibit local anesthetic properties.
  • Twelve compounds were separated from the most potent fraction, showing a mean onset time for anesthesia comparable to a standard anesthetic (tetracaine).
  • Molecular docking studies indicated that Rabdosiin and Apigenin-7-O-rutinoside are the key compounds for local anesthesia, likely blocking sodium ion channels to prevent pain sensation.

Both ethyl acetate and aqueous fractions of leaves exhibited noteworthy antioxidant and nephroprotective activities against carbon tetrachloride (CCl)-induced nephrotoxicity in rats, as evidenced by the remarkable improvements of renal serum biomarkers and histopathological features. Additionally, the ethyl acetate fraction displayed a prominent antitrypanosomal activity against ; consequently, the leaves were subjected to LC-HR-ESI-MS metabolomic profiling to discover the constituents that possibly underlie their bioactivities. Therefore, ten metabolites were characterized, mostly dominated by flavonoids.

Aging; a biological phenomenon characterized by progressive decline in cellular functions, is considered as a major risk factor of various liver diseases that plays as an adverse prognostic role, thus increasing mortality rate. However, diet is the main environmental factor that has a major impact on the aging process whereas; sulforaphane (SFN), an isothiocyanate organosulfur compound in cruciferous vegetables, has been reported with myriad biological effects. In the present study, SFN antiaging properties were evaluated on D-galactose (D-Gal)-induced liver aging in rats.

Background: Autogenous intraoral block grafting is the gold standard augmentation technique for moderate-to-severe horizontal ridge deficiency. However, the graft undergoes variable resorption during healing that might jeopardize the outcome of the procedure. Several studies hypothesized that covering the graft with a membrane decreases the amount of graft resorption, but this effect is not established in the literature.

Background: Globally, gastric cancer (GC) it is the fourth most common cancer and the third cause of cancer-related deaths. Overexpression of MDM2 and B-RAF appeared to be increased in malignancy and associated with poor prognosis in several human tumours, but their role in gastric cancer remains controversial.

Aim: We had investigated the immunohistochemical expression of MDM2 and B-RAF in 136 gastric lesions with/without association.

Radioactive Isotopes and Generators Department, Hot Laboratories Centre, Atomic Energy Authority, P.O. Code 13759, Cairo, Egypt; Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department, Faculty of Pharmacy, October University of Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA), Giza, Egypt. Electronic address:

The current work presents the synthesis and biological evaluation of new series of coumarin hydrazide-hydrazone derivatives that showed in vitro broad spectrum antitumor activities against resistant pancreatic carcinoma (Panc-1), hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) and leukemia (CCRF) cell lines using doxorubicin as reference standard. Bromocoumarin hydrazide-hydrazone derivative (BCHHD) 11b showed excellent anticancer activity against all tested cancer cell lines. Enzyme assays showed that BCHHD 11b induced apoptosis due to activation of caspases 3/7.

l-Phosphinothricin (glufosinate or 2-amino-4-((hydroxy(methyl) phosphinyl) butyric acid ammonium salt (AHPB)), which is a structural analog of glutamate, is a recognized herbicide that acts on weeds through inhibition of glutamine synthetase. Due to the structural similarity between phosphinothricin and some bisphosphonates (BPs), this study focuses on investigating the possibility of repurposing phosphinothricin as a bisphosphonate analogue, particularly in two medicine-related activities: image probing and as an anti-cancer drug. As BP is a competitive inhibitor of human farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase (HFPPS), in silico molecular docking and dynamic simulations studies were established to evaluate the binding and stability of phosphinothricin with HFPPS, while the results showed good binding and stability in the active site of the enzyme in relation to alendronate.

DNA barcoding of United Arab Emirates (UAE) native plants is of high practical and scientific value as the plants adapt to very harsh environmental conditions that challenge their identification. Fifty-one plant species belonged to 22 families, 2 monocots, and 20 eudicots; a maximum number of species being legumes and grasses were collected. To authenticate the morphological identification of the wild plant taxa, rbcL and matK regions were used in the study.

miR-148a and miR-30a limit HCV-dependent suppression of the lipid droplet protein, ADRP, in HCV infected cell models.

J Med Virol

Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Molecular Pathology Research Group, German University in Cairo, New Cairo City-Main Entrance Al Tagamoa Al Khames, Cairo, Egypt.

Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) promotes lipid droplet (LD) formation and perturbs the expression of the LD associated PAT proteins ADRP and TIP47, to promote its own lifecycle. HCV enhances TIP47 and suppresses ADRP by displacing it from LD surface in infected cell models. We have previously shown that suppression of TIP47 by miR-148a and miR-30a decreased intracellular LDs and HCV RNA.

Clopidogrel and aspirin are among the most prescribed dual antiplatelet therapies to treat the acute coronary syndrome and heart attacks. However, their potential clinical impacts are a subject of intense debates. The therapeutic efficiency of clopidogrel is controlled by the actions of hepatic cytochrome P450 (CYPs) enzymes and impacted by individual genetic variations.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that function in transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. Several miRNAs have been implicated in regulating prostate cancer (PCa) progression. Deregulations of miRNA regulatory networks have been reported in ERG positive PCa, which accounts for ~50 % of PCa and have been suggested to affect tumor aggressiveness.
