Background: Mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) induces cardiac inflammation cooperatively with nuclear factor-κB and signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3); MR blockers exert anti-inflammatory effects. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. We investigated the anti-inflammatory effect of esaxerenone, a novel MR blocker, in experimental myocardial infarction (MI) and its underlying mechanisms.

Although concomitant use of nintedanib with P-glycoprotein inhibitors reportedly increases the plasma concentrations of the former, tacrolimus, a P-glycoprotein inhibitor, is often used to treat connective tissue diseases-related interstitial lung diseases. The optimal dose of nintedanib in combination with tacrolimus for the treatment of PF-ILD with connective tissue disease is unknown.

Prognostic significance of lymph node metastasis in pancreatic tail cancer: A multicenter retrospective study.

Background: Distal pancreatectomy (DP) with lymph node (LN) dissection is the standard procedure for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma of the tail (Pt-PDAC). However, the optimal surgery including extent of LN dissection is still being debated. The present study investigated the incidence and prognostic impact of LN metastasis on patients suffering from Pt-PDAC.

A new zooxanthellate scleractinian coral, Kishi, Nomura & Fukami, (Scleractinia, Merulinidae), is described from non-coral reef regions of Japan and northern Taiwan. This new species was previously recognized as a morphological variant of (Veron, 1990) and can be morphologically distinguished from that species by lacking groove-and-tube structures on corallite wall joints, and by having larger calices, numerous septa, and up to three corallites in one valley. The new species also formed an independent clade from its congeners, (Milne Edwards & Haime, 1857), and (Wells, 1954), in the molecular phylogeny based on the mitochondrial intergenic region and nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacers.

Differences in clinicopathological characteristics between lipohypertrophy and localized insulin-derived amyloidosis: A scoping review.

Insulin is used as a therapeutic agent in patients with diabetes, and cutaneous lipohypertrophy (LH) and localized insulin-derived amyloidosis (LIDA) are well-known adverse effects associated with insulin injections. The clinical implications, management, assessment methods, and pathological differentiation of LH and LIDA have been recently updated. This review was to update our knowledge of the pathological differentiation, effects of insulin absorption, hypoglycemic events, and recent assessment methods for LH and LIDA.

The genus in basal Araceae includes both thermogenic and non/slightly thermogenic species that prefer cold environments. Aim: Yokukansan is a Japanese herbal medicine used in psychiatry to treat behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia and other psychiatric symptoms. However, the glycyrrhizic acid included in this medicine can cause pseudoaldosteronism and hypokalemia. We aimed to identify the risk factors for hypokalemia due to yokukansan.

A new soft coral species, (Alcyonacea, Xeniidae), is described from Miyazaki in the warm-temperate region of Japan. This new species has conspicuous and unique spindle sclerites in addition to the simple ellipsoid platelet-shaped sclerites typically found in the genus . These unique spindles are a specific key morphological characteristic for this new species and for differentiating this species among congeneric species.

Primary cardiac angiosarcoma directly invading the right lung: An autopsy report.

We presented a difficult-to-diagnose case of cardiac angiosarcoma. The patient presented pericardial effusion, but cytology of the effusion was negative. Because cytological detection of angiosarcoma cells is difficult, a possibility of malignancy should not be excluded with negative cytological examination.

Background: Autopsy imaging (Ai) is used to determine the cause of death, providing pre-dissection information. Ai is often used in the field of human forensic medicine but has never been applied on farm animals.

Methods: Ai-computed tomography (CT) was performed before necropsy for farm animals (one goat, one ox, one cow and three calves) that died or were euthanised.

Snowball-like appearance on radial endobronchial ultrasonography in a patient with invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma.

Invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (IMA), which is a relatively rare lung adenocarcinoma, is considered a high-grade subtype and is associated with a poor prognosis. IMA is difficult to diagnose by computed tomography because it requires differentiation from inflammatory diseases, such as atelectasis, infectious pneumonia, and organizing pneumonia. Thus far, no reports of radial endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS) findings in IMA have been published.

Previous study suggested that dietary intake of 06CC2 (LP06CC2) isolated from Mongolian dairy products showed various health beneficial effects. Here, the effect of LP06CC2 on the cholesterol metabolism in mice fed a cholesterol-loaded diet was evaluated. Cholesterol and LP06CC2 were incorporated into the AIN93G-based diet to evaluate the effect on cholesterol metabolism in Balb/c mice.

Aim: To identify factors affecting the progression of traumatic intracranial hemorrhagic injury (t-ICH) during interventional radiology (IVR) for the hemostasis of extracranial hemorrhagic injury.

Methods: This was a retrospective comparative study. Fifty-two patients with t-ICH who underwent hemostasis using IVR for extracranial trauma at our institute were included.

Implementation of a telestroke system for general physicians without a nearby stroke center to shorten the time to intravenous thrombolysis for acute cerebral infarction.

Aim: We aimed to establish a telestroke system for general physicians in areas without a nearby stroke center and investigate its usefulness for recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) therapy for patients with acute cerebral infarction.

Methods: We used a hub and spoke model, in which a hub hospital provided telestroke support to the spoke hospitals in rural areas that were not nearby a stroke center. The telestroke support device enabled the sharing of images and real-time face-to-face discussion with a stroke specialist for diagnosis and treatment.
