Article Synopsis
  • A study examined how inflammation might contribute to chronic pain and fatigue in older adults by analyzing the relationship between inflammatory markers (IL-6, CRP, TNFα) and reported symptoms over time.
  • Researchers collected blood samples and health assessments from participants in the Saint Louis Personality and Aging (SPAN) study, focusing on correlations and potential confounding factors.
  • Findings indicated higher levels of IL-6 and CRP were linked to increased pain and fatigue; moreover, CRP was specifically predictive of future fatigue, while pain and fatigue also influenced inflammation levels over the studied period.

(1) Background: Parents of children with autism spectrum disorders often experience psychological distress, which can affect the quality of childcare they provide. It is crucial to screen for psychiatric symptoms among these parents. The core symptom index (CSI) is a widely recognized tool used to assess general symptoms, including depression, anxiety, and somatic issues.

Article Synopsis
  • The ECR-R-18 scale, used to assess relationship experiences among Thai adolescents, had issues with internal consistency prompting the development of a shorter version.
  • Study 1 focused on creating the ECR-R-10-AD, a 10-item scale that balances attachment anxiety and avoidance, while Study 2 compared its psychometric properties to the original scale with a larger group.
  • The findings confirmed the ECR-R-10-AD's validity and reliability, showing it effectively measures attachment styles with strong support for use across different genders.

Objective: This epigenomics sub-study embedded within a randomized controlled trial examined whether an evidenced-based behavioral intervention model that decreased stimulant use altered leukocyte DNA methylation (DNAm).

Methods: Sexual minority men with HIV who use methamphetamine were randomized to a five-session positive affect intervention (n = 32) or an attention-control condition (n = 21), both delivered during three months of contingency management for stimulant abstinence. All participants exhibited sustained HIV virologic control - an HIV viral load less than 40 copies/mL at baseline and six months post-randomization.

Master of Science Program (Mental Health), Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary School (MIdS), Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand.

: A limited understanding exists regarding the intricate dynamics between the levels of social inhibition exhibited by both wives and husbands concerning their perceived family support and depressive symptoms, particularly within couples who are parents of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). : This study used the actor-partner interdependence mediation model to analyze data collected from 397 pairs of Chinese parents with children diagnosed with ASD. : The findings of the study revealed significant indirect actor effects, indicating that the levels of social inhibition exhibited by both wives and husbands were associated with their own depressive symptoms through their respective perceptions of family support.

Wildlife trafficking creates favorable scenarios for intra- and inter-specific interactions that can lead to parasite spread and disease emergence. Among the fauna affected by this activity, primates are relevant due to their potential to acquire and share zoonoses - infections caused by parasites that can spread between humans and other animals. Though it is known that most primate parasites can affect multiple hosts and that many are zoonotic, comparative studies across different contexts for animal-human interactions are scarce.

Article Synopsis
  • The outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria is made up of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), which plays a key role in identifying bacterial serogroups and stimulating the innate immune response.
  • The process of LPS binding involves multiple partners like LPS binding protein and toll-like receptor 4, leading to the activation of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
  • Recent advancements in LPS detection methods include novel techniques that leverage nanomaterials and miniaturized devices, moving beyond traditional tests for more efficient endotoxin detection.

Background: Youth who experience traumatic events are at a substantially higher risk of engaging in substance use and sexual risk behaviors and problems (eg, HIV acquisition) than their non-trauma-exposed counterparts. Evidence-based substance use and risky sexual behavior prevention may reduce the risk of these outcomes. Trauma-focused mental health treatment provides a window of opportunity for the implementation of such preventive work with these youth.

The experiences of close relationships-revised (ECR-R) is a widely used 36-item self-report measurement for measuring adult attachment. However, various short versions of the ECR-R have been developed and tested psychometrically. Given the cultural impact, a short version of the Thai ECR-R should be derived from the existing Thai version of the ECR-R.

How are -methylcarbamates encapsulated by β-cyclodextrin: insight into the binding mechanism.

Computational Institute for Molecules and Materials, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing 210094, China.

Guest molecules containing chromophore groups encapsulated by β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) generate circular dichroism (CD) signals, which enables a preliminary prediction of their binding modes. However, the accurate determination of the representative binding conformation (RC) remains a challenging task due to the complex conformational space of these host-guest systems. Here, we combine a molecular dynamics/quantum mechanics/continuum solvent model (MD/QM/CSM) with induced circular dichroism (ICD) data (N.

Article Synopsis
  • Glycoalkaloids are plant metabolites that help protect against pests and pathogens, forming complexes with sterols like cholesterol which disrupt membranes.
  • This study uses atomic force microscopy (AFM) to analyze the structure of glycoalkaloid-sterol aggregates more precisely than earlier low-resolution techniques.
  • Results show that while α-tomatine forms aggregates with cholesterol and certain lipids, it does not interact with epicholesterol, and the aggregate structures observed are typically elongated and range from 40-70 nm in width.

The potential to generate variable pore sizes, simplistic surface modification, and a breadth of commercial uses in the fields of biosensors, actuators, drug loading and release, and the development of catalysts have unquestionably accelerated the usage of nanoporous gold (NPG)-based nanomaterials in research and development. This article describes the process of the generation of hierarchical bimodal nanoporous gold (hb-NPG) by employing a step-wise procedure involving electrochemical alloying, chemical dealloying techniques, and annealing to create both macro- and mesopores. This is done to improve the utility of NPG by creating a bicontinuous solid/void morphology.

Birds are highly visually oriented and use plumage coloration as an important signalling trait in social communication. Hence, males and females may have different patterns of plumage coloration, a phenomenon known as sexual dichromatism. Because males tend to have more complex plumages, sexual dichromatism is usually attributed to female choice.

Vector-borne parasites are important ecological drivers influencing life-history evolution in birds by increasing host mortality or susceptibility to new diseases. Therefore, understanding why vulnerability to infection varies within a host clade is a crucial task for conservation biology and for understanding macroecological life-history patterns. Here, we studied the relationship of avian life-history traits and climate on the prevalence of and parasites.

Introduction: The number of health care simulation centres (HSCs) in mainland China has increased exponentially recently. However, the performance of these centres varies significantly between hospitals. The aim of this study is to address two research questions: (i) what are the critical factors for implementing high-performance HSCs and (ii) how are these critical factors used in the development of implementation strategies to achieve satisfactory performance?

Methods: Following a literature review on information technology (IT) implementation, we identified a framework comprising four key dimensions for HSCs implementation: technology, organisation, environment and individuals.
