Chlorophyll is the most important pigment in plants and algae, which not only provides food for organisms throughout the biosphere, but also plays an important role in a variety of human and man-made applications.

Dissecting cellulitis of the scalp (DCS) is a rare condition characterized by painful inflammatory nodules and abscesses on the scalp, often leading to sinus tracts and scarring alopecia. We present a case of DCS in a 26-year-old male who experienced significant clinical improvement following a short course of upadacitinib, a Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor. The patient received multiple standard treatments such as topical antimicrobials, oral antibiotics, corticosteroids, and intralesional triamcinolone injections, with limited success.

A mixed methods comparison of adolescents' and researchers' observations of neighborhood characteristics in Latinx neighborhoods.

We used a convergent mixed methods research design to compare and contrast researchers' neighborhood environmental assessments collected using systematic social observations with adolescents' neighborhood environmental assessments collected by semi-structured interviews with US Mexican adolescents. Using qualitative methods, we found that adolescents sometimes observed the same neighborhood environmental features as researchers. They also sometimes observed different environmental features altogether; in both cases they sometimes layered on additional meaning making.

Landlords are essential actors within the rental housing market, and there is much to be learned about their willingness to participate in rental assistance programs that improve access to stable housing. Because the success of these programs, such as the Mobility (Location-Based) Voucher program in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, can be derailed by landlord opposition, it is important to test strategies that increase landlords' participation. Using data from a unique survey of Pittsburgh landlords, we found that exposing landlords to an asset-framing narrative that highlighted the social, economic, and health benefits of receiving a mobility voucher increased landlords' reported willingness to rent to a mobility voucher recipient by 21 percentage points.

Active hydrothermal vents are oases for productivity in the deep ocean, but the flow of dissolved substrates that fuel such abundant life ultimately ceases, leaving behind inactive mineral deposits. The rates of microbial activity on these deposits are largely unconstrained. Here we show primary production occurs on inactive hydrothermal deposits and quantify its contribution to new organic carbon production in the deep ocean.

Effects of Activation Barriers on Quenching to Stabilize Prebiotic Chemical Systems.

This study aims to (1) explore physicians' perceptions and experiences of lung cancer screening in Hong Kong, (2) evaluate physicians' readiness of implementing lung cancer screening in Hong Kong, (3) explore high-risk smokers' health beliefs of lung cancer and screening, (4) identify barriers and facilitators for high-risk Hong Kong smokers to screening for lung cancer, and (5) validate the Chinese Lung Cancer Screening Health Belief Scale in relation to high-risk smokers in Hong Kong. A mixed methods design will be used in this study. Individual qualitative interviews will be conducted with physicians who have experience with high-risk smokers.

Divergent immune microenvironments in two tumor nodules from a patient with mismatch repair-deficient prostate cancer.

Patients with prostate cancer (PC) generally do not respond favorably to immune checkpoint inhibitors, which may be due to a low abundance of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes even when mutational load is high. Here, we identified a patient who presented with high-grade primary prostate cancer with two adjacent tumor nodules. While both nodules were mismatch repair-deficient (MMRd), exhibited pathogenic MSH2 and MSH6 alterations, had a high tumor mutational burden (TMB), and demonstrated high microsatellite instability (MSI), they had markedly distinct immune phenotypes.
