Case Report: Combined Laparoscopic Perineal Hernia and Abdominal Parastomal Hernia Repair With a Mesh After Abdominoperineal Resection: A Video Vignette and Review of the Literature.

Background: Postoperative perineal hernia (PH) is an uncommon complication after abdominoperineal resection (APR). Different techniques have been described in literature and there is no consensus regarding the optimal repair approach. In the present study, we reported a case of a laparoscopic combined repair of a perineal hernia and abdominal parastomal hernia (PSH) with mesh.

Magseed preoperative localization in non-palpable breast lesions: Our single-center Breast Unit experience.

Background: This retrospective study aimed to evaluate our single-center experience with Magseed as a pre-operative localization system in a cohort of 47 patients with non-palpable breast lesions.

Design And Methods: Forty-seven patients with non-palpable breast lesions, who underwent Magseed pre-operative localization followed by breast-conserving surgery between November 2022 and June 2024 at our Breast Unit were enrolled in our study. The procedure involved percutaneous placement of the Magseed into the target lesion under ultrasound (66%) or stereotactic (34%) guidance.

The Impact of Diet on Body Composition in a Cohort of Pediatric and Adult Patients with Maple Syrup Urine Disease.

The treatment for Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD) consists of a hypoproteic diet with integration therapy to limit leucine intake, ensuring adequate energy, macronutrients, and micronutrients to prevent catabolism and promote anabolism. We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study at the Metabolic Rare Disease Unit, Fondazione IRCCS San Gerardo dei Tintori, Monza, Italy. Patients with MSUD who were over 3 years old, not treated with liver transplantation, and who provided written consent, were included.

IRON: A retrospective international multicenter study on robotic versus laparoscopic versus open approach in gallbladder cancer.

Objective: For patients with T1b gallbladder cancer or greater, an adequate lymphadenectomy should include at least 6 nodes. Studies comparing short- and long-term outcomes of the open approach with those of laparoscopy and robotic approaches are limited, with small sample sizes, and there are none comparing laparoscopic and robotic approaches. This study compared patients who underwent robotic, laparoscopic, and open resection of gallbladder cancer, evaluating short- and long-term outcomes.

Visual perceptual learning is enhanced by training in the illusory far space.

Visual objects in the peripersonal space (PPS) are perceived faster than farther ones appearing in the extrapersonal space (EPS). This shows preferential processing for visual stimuli near our body. Such an advantage should favour visual perceptual learning occurring near, as compared with far from observers, but opposite evidence has been recently provided from online testing protocols, showing larger perceptual learning in the far space.

Hernia recurrence is a common complication after inguinal hernia repair. Recent studies suggest that laparoscopic mesh repair with closure of direct hernia defects can reduce recurrence rates. Our study examines the effectiveness of this approach.

Background: The management of invasive intraductal papillary mucinous cystic neoplasm (I-IPMN) does not differ from de novo pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC); however, I-IPMNs are debated to have better prognosis. Despite being managed similarly to PDAC, no data are available on the response of I-IPMN to neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Methods: All patients undergoing pancreatic resection for a pancreatic adenocarcinoma from 2011 to 2022 were included.

A core endeavour in current affective computing and social signal processing research is the construction of datasets embedding suitable ground truths to foster machine learning methods. This practice brings up hitherto overlooked intricacies. In this paper, we consider causal factors potentially arising when human raters evaluate the affect fluctuations of subjects involved in dyadic interactions and subsequently categorise them in terms of social participation traits.

Using Gaze for Behavioural Biometrics.

A principled approach to the analysis of eye movements for behavioural biometrics is laid down. The approach grounds in foraging theory, which provides a sound basis to capture the uniqueness of individual eye movement behaviour. We propose a composite Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process for quantifying the exploration/exploitation signature characterising the foraging eye behaviour.

Recurrent pericarditis is a true challenge for clinicians, especially when the patient becomes unresponsive or not tolerant to conventional treatments.
