Objective: Primary antiphospholipid syndrome (PAPS) is a rare autoimmune disease characterized by the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies and the occurrence of thrombotic events and pregnancy complications. Our study aimed to identify novel genetic susceptibility loci associated with PAPS.

Methods: We performed a genome-wide association study comprising 5,485 individuals (482 affected individuals) of European ancestry.

Article Synopsis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that affects women more frequently than men, but the relationship between sex and RA is not fully understood.
  • Gender medicine examines how gender differences influence health, potentially impacting the presentation and treatment of RA in men and women.
  • Research indicates that disease activity may be higher in women, while response to treatments is typically better in men, and factors like pregnancy can complicate management strategies.

The aim of this study is to retrospectively analyze 10-year drug survival of first-line TNF inhibitor (TNFi) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) patients, comparing withdrawal rates and discontinuation pattern between adult- and juvenile-onset populations. RA, AS, PsA, and JIA patients treated with infliximab, etanercept, or adalimumab as first TNFi between 1999 and 2015 were extracted from a local registry. Drug survival up to 10-year follow-up was evaluated by the Kaplan-Meier method and compared according to age (adult vs juvenile onset), TNFi agent, and discontinuation reason by a stratified log-rank test.

Most clinicians are not prepared to provide integrated personal care to address all the clinical needs of women with primary ovarian insufficiency. Design thinking is an engineering methodology used to develop and evaluate novel concepts for systems operation. Here we articulate the need for a seamlessly integrated mobile health system to support genomic research as well as patient care.

Objective: To evaluate the 8-year survival of the first tumor necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi) in patients with axial spondyloarthritis (SpA) or psoriatic arthritis (PsA), identify the predictive factors for withdrawal, and compare the discontinuation rates for infliximab, etanercept, and adalimumab.

Methods: We evaluated PsA and axial SpA patients treated with a first-line TNFi between 2005 and 2015 at 4 Italian tertiary centers. Eight-year drug survival was calculated by the Kaplan-Meier method, and risk for discontinuation among treatment groups compared by stratified log-rank test.

Objective: To evaluate the 12-year survival of the first tumor necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi) treatment in a cohort of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients, comparing the between-groups discontinuation rates for infliximab, etanercept, and adalimumab.

Methods: RA patients treated with their first TNFi were investigated from a local registry. Before and after adjusting for propensity scores, overall and by individual TNFi 12-year drug retention was evaluated.

Objective: It has been suggested that only antibodies against domain 1 (D1) of β2 -glycoprotein I (β2 GPI) are pathogenic and diagnostic. The role of antibodies against other β2 GPI domains is still debated. This study was undertaken to evaluate the clinical relevance of domain specificity profiling of anti-β2 GPI IgG antibodies in antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) patients and in control groups of patients with systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases and in asymptomatic antiphospholipid antibody (aPL) carriers.

The impact of autoimmune diseases is growing from both a clinical and a laboratory point of view. Diagnostic assays are now being transferred from dedicated specialised laboratories into high-throughput service laboratories. The increasing number of available methods has raised the variability among the laboratories, making their reproducibility a critical problem.
