Background: Despite longstanding epidemiologic data on the association between increased serum triglycerides and cardiovascular events, the exact level at which risk begins to rise is unclear. The Working Group on Uric Acid and Cardiovascular Risk of the Italian Society of Hypertension has conceived a protocol aimed at searching for the prognostic cutoff value of triglycerides in predicting cardiovascular events in a large regional-based Italian cohort.
Methods And Results: Among 14 189 subjects aged 18 to 95 years followed-up for 11.
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common complication in cancer patients, resulting in deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE), and is responsible for high morbidity and mortality. This article discusses evidence and future perspectives on pathogenesis and prevention and treatment of thrombotic complications in patients with cancer. In April 2021, international basic researchers and clinicians met for the virtual edition of the 10th International Conference on Thrombosis & Hemostasis Issues in Cancer.

Background: Patients with cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT) have a high risk of recurrent venous thromboembolic events, which contribute to significant morbidity and mortality. Direct oral anticoagulants may provide a convenient treatment option for these patients.
Objectives: To assess clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients with active cancer changing to rivaroxaban after ≥4 weeks of standard therapy for the treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in clinical practice.

Background And Methods: Mutations in cause β-propeller protein-associated neurodegeneration (BPAN), a type of neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation (NBIA). We reviewed clinical and MRI findings in 4 patients with de novo mutations.
Results: Psychomotor delay and movement disorders were present in all cases; early-onset epileptic encephalopathy was present in 3.
The GLOBAL Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) Study Group and United Kingdom-PBC (UK-PBC) Consortium have demonstrated that dichotomous response criteria are not as accurate as continuous equations at predicting mortality or liver transplantation in PBC. The aim of this analysis was to assess the clinical utility of the GLOBE and UK-PBC risk scores using data from POISE, a phase 3 trial investigating obeticholic acid (OCA) in patients with PBC. Data (N = 216) at baseline and month 12 were used to calculate the GLOBE and UK-PBC risk scores to assess the projected change in risk with OCA versus placebo.

NI-0801 is a fully human monoclonal antibody against chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 10 (CXCL10), which is involved in the recruitment of inflammatory T cells into the liver. The safety and efficacy of NI-0801 was assessed in patients with primary biliary cholangitis. In this open-label phase 2a study, patients with primary biliary cholangitis with an inadequate response to ursodeoxycholic acid received six consecutive intravenous administrations of NI-0801 (10 mg/kg) every 2 weeks.

According to the dual-route model, a printed string of letters can be processed by either a grapheme-to-phoneme conversion (GPC) route or a lexical-semantic route. Although meta-analyses of the imaging literature support the existence of distinct but interacting reading procedures, individual neuroimaging studies that explored neural correlates of reading yielded inconclusive results. We used a list-manipulation paradigm to provide a fresh empirical look at this issue and to isolate specific areas that underlie the two reading procedures.

High frequency oscillations in the hippocampal structures recorded during sleep have been proved to be essential for long-term episodic memory consolidation in both animals and in humans. The aim of this study was to test if transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation (tACS) of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) in the hippocampal ripple range, applied bi-frontally during encoding, could modulate declarative memory performance, measured immediately after encoding, and after a night's sleep. An associative word-pair learning test was used.

Several studies have suggested that neuroplasticity can be triggered by short-term visual deprivation in healthy adults. Specifically, these studies have provided evidence that visual deprivation reversibly affects basic perceptual abilities. The present study investigated the long-lasting effects of short-term visual deprivation on emotion perception.

In the current proposal, we argue that observing a liar influences the observer's physiology even though the observer may not be consciously aware of being lied to (i.e.
