With an interest in monitoring the patency of stents that are used to treat strictures in the bile duct, this paper reports the investigation of a wireless sensing system to interrogate a microsensor integrated into the stent. The microsensor is comprised of a 28-μm-thick magnetoelastic foil with 8.25-mm length and 1-mm width.

Background: Multidisciplinary care is paramount in patient-specific decision making, especially as pertaining to oral cavity squamous cell cancer (OCSCC) treatment. Protracted surgery-postoperative-radiation (S-PORT) has a detrimental impact on OCSCC patients' outcomes. This study examined the impact of surgeon-radiation oncologist dyads on the treatment of OCSCC, focusing on S-PORT interval and disease specific outcomes.

Lesser metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint instability can cause pain in the MTP joints with ambulation. The goal of nonsurgical treatment is to offload the metatarsal heads and stabilize the MTP joints. Achilles stretching can be effective by decreasing pressure in the forefoot with ambulation.

Background: Nurse practitioners with roles in specialty environments face challenges including uncertain role expectations and achieve urology expertise with on-the-job training, mentoring, and independent study. This creates a wide variety of preparation and role descriptions.
Purpose: This study employed Delphi methodology to identify essential components of the urology nurse practitioner (NP) role in Australia and New Zealand, representing an inaugural description of the role.

(PA) infection can cause pneumonia and sepsis by activating peptidyl-arginine deiminase (PAD) and triggering the formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). Our previous research has elucidated the crucial role of PAD2 in regulating CitH3 production and NETosis signaling following bacterial infection. Therefore, targeting PAD2 with selective inhibitors holds promise for treating PA-induced sepsis.

Introduction: The Revised Electronic Causality Assessment Method (RECAM) is an updated, electronic version of the Roussel Uclaf Causality Assessment Method (RUCAM) to diagnose drug-induced liver injury (DILI). The primary aim of this study was to compare RECAM vs RUCAM in patients with suspected DILI.
Methods: Patient encounters from October 1, 2015, to September 30, 2019, were searched for suspected DILI using ICD-10 K71 codes for toxic liver disease.

Objectives: We sought to study the incidence of patient-initiated communication after parotidectomy, identify patient and surgical factors associated with patient-initiated communication, and evaluate trends and possible areas for improvement.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent parotidectomy without combined procedures from 2018 to 2022 in a single tertiary-care institution was performed. We reviewed all patient communications documented within the electronic medical record within 30 days of discharge.

As the incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) increases among younger adults, the need for discussions regarding treatment-related infertility is growing. The negative impacts of gonadotoxic chemotherapy and pelvic radiation are well documented, but the role that surgical intervention for CRC plays in infertility is less clear. Additionally, treatment-related infertility counseling occurs infrequently.

Sepsis-induced acute lung injury (ALI) is prevalent in patients with sepsis and has a high mortality rate. Peptidyl arginine deiminase 2 (PADI2) and PADI4 play crucial roles in mediating the host's immune response in sepsis, but their specific functions remain unclear. Our study shows that Padi2-/- Padi4-/- double KO (DKO) improved survival, reduced lung injury, and decreased bacterial load in Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) pneumonia-induced sepsis mice.

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a severe congenital anomaly often accompanied by other structural anomalies and/or neurobehavioral manifestations. Rare de novo protein-coding variants and copy-number variations contribute to CDH in the population. However, most individuals with CDH remain genetically undiagnosed.

Background: The role of serotonin in pulmonary arterial hypertension has been extensively studied in recent decades, with preclinical data strongly indicating involvement in disease pathogenesis; however, clinical studies have yielded mixed results.
Methods: ELEVATE-2 was a phase 2b dose-ranging, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre trial investigating rodatristat ethyl as a treatment for patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension. The study was conducted at 64 sites across 16 countries in Europe and North America.

Purpose: To ensure that research on kidney stones provides meaningful impact for the kidney stone community, patients and caregivers should be engaged as stakeholders in clinical trial design, starting at study inception. This project aimed to elicit, refine, and prioritize research ideas from kidney stone stakeholders to develop a patient-centered research agenda for clinical trials.
Materials And Methods: The Kidney Stone Engagement Core, a group of patients, caregivers, advocates, clinicians, and researchers, executed an iterative process of surveys and focus groups to elicit and refine research themes, which were then translated into research questions.

Mangling injuries of the upper extremity are severe, high-energy traumas that damage multiple functional systems including skin, nerves, vascular, tendon, and bone. Management requires familiarity with various techniques in orthopedic, vascular, and plastic surgery. A specific technique cannot be described due to the various combinations of injuries that can occur with mangled upper extremities, but we present principles and recommendations for treatment and judgment.

Background: Research has long documented the increased emergency department usage by persons who are homeless compared with their housed counterparts, as well as an increased prevalence of infectious diseases. However, there is a gap in knowledge regarding the comparative treatment that persons who are homeless receive. This study seeks to describe this potential difference in treatment, including diagnostic services tested, procedures performed and medications prescribed.
