Molecular Design, Supramolecular Assembly, and Excellent Dye Adsorption Capacity of Natural Rigid Dehydroabietic Acid-Tailored Amide Organogelators.

Langmuir

July 2022

MOE Engineering Research Center of Forestry Biomass Materials and Bioenergy, College of Materials Science and Technology, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing 100083, China.

It is very appealing to synthesize functional soft materials from natural and abundant plant diterpenes because they have conformationally rigid and chiral properties. Herein, dehydroabietic-based monoamide (DA-1) and diamide (DA-2) were designed by introducing device interactions, π-π stacking and hydrogen bonding, with an aromatic group, C═O, and N-H. DA-1 and DA-2 can be gelled in a mixed solvent and a single solvent, respectively.

Interprofessional education faculty development survey: Perspectives on IPE and collaborative practice and COVID-19.

J Interprof Educ Pract

December 2022

Department of Social Work, Michigan Medicine, Clinical Social Worker, Adult Palliative Care Consult Service, Social Work Education Lead, Michigan Medicine Social Work Internship Program, 1500 E. Medical Center Drive, SPC 5233, Ann Arbor, MI, 48109-5233, USA.

The cancellation of in-person classes in March 2020 due to COVID-19 caused a sudden shift in the educational experiences of health profession students enrolled at the University of Michigan (U-M). With the move to remote learning, educators engaging in interprofessional education (IPE) were faced with the challenge of preparing students for interprofessional collaboration from a distance. A survey was designed to investigate the impact of the pandemic on IPE practices and discover educator development needs.

Article Synopsis
  • The systematic review aimed to standardize how the activPAL accelerometer measures physical activity in older adults living at home.
  • A thorough search was conducted across multiple databases for studies published before August 1, 2020, focusing on English-language research involving community-dwelling adults aged 65 and older.
  • The review found 7 relevant studies, highlighting that the activPAL primarily measures step count, walking duration, sit-to-stand transitions, and sedentary time, while it underuses measurements for moderate to vigorous physical activity.

Facile Strategy for Preparing a Rosin-Based Low- Material: Molecular Design of Free Volume.

Biomacromolecules

July 2022

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Michigan-Flint, Flint, Michigan 48502, United States.

Low- dielectrics are urgently needed in modern integrated circuits. The introduction of free volume instead of porous structures has become a powerful strategy to reduce the value. According to this strategy, the biomass resource rosin-containing hydrogenated phenanthrene ring was introduced into benzocyclobutene (BCB) resin to reduce the value; then a rosin-based BCB monomer was successfully synthesized.

Transformation of a Study Abroad Experience Into a Virtual Community Health Clinical.

Nurs Educ Perspect

August 2022

About the Authors Suzanne M. Lugger, DNP, RN, FNP-BC, is an assistant professor, School of Nursing, University of Michigan-Flint, Flint, Michigan. Jamie M. Koonmen, MSN, RN, is the director of the RN-BSN Program and a lecturer in the School of Nursing, University of Michigan-Flint. For more information, contact Dr. Lugger at .

The COVID-19 pandemic forced nursing faculty to transform an international study abroad service-learning course into a virtual community health clinical experience with a global focus. The course was piloted with seven students who would have completed their community health clinical during a short-term immersion trip to Kenya. Clinical assignments were changed to closely mirror the immersion service-learning experience in a virtual environment.

With the advent of the aging era, healthcare and elderly care have become the focus of medical care, especially the care of the elderly with dementia. Patients' confidential data hiding is a useful technology for healthcare and patient information privacy. In this study, we implement an intelligent healthcare system using the multiple-coefficient quantization technology in transform domain to hide patients' confidential data into electrocardiogram (ECG) signals obtained by ECG sensor module.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States. Part of the difficulty with diagnosing heart disease in women is related to a disease process called coronary microvascular disease (CMVD; previously called syndrome X). Also known as nonobstructive coronary artery disease, CMVD is challenging to identify because often there is a lack of convincing evidence of an acute problem during evaluation.

The H3K4 demethylase KDM5B is overexpressed in multiple cancer types, and elevated expression levels of KDM5B is associated with decreased survival. However, the underlying mechanistic contribution of dysregulated expression of KDM5B and H3K4 demethylation in cancer is poorly understood. Our results show that loss of KDM5B in multiple types of cancer cells leads to increased proliferation and elevated expression of cancer stem cell markers.

Background: Despite the association of genetic factors with falls, balance, and lower extremity functioning, interaction of the angiotensin-converting enzyme () gene insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism with fear of falling (FOF) in relation to stepping performance has, to the best of our knowledge, not been investigated in older adults.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the interaction effects of the I/D polymorphism with FOF in relation to stepping performance in older adults.

Methods: Eighty-eight community-dwelling adults 60 years or older participated in a cross-sectional observational study.

Background: Wraparound referrals are a cornerstone of hospital-based violence intervention programs, which have proven to be an effective public health approach for mitigating violence and recidivism. We hypothesized that replacing a manual referral process with an electronic referral application would increase the number of generated referrals and improve compliance with follow-up visits.

Study Design: The population for this single center quantitative study was a convenience sample of firearm-injured patients.

To improve oral hygiene education, we evaluated the perception and potential impact of microbiology-focused oral hygiene instructions (OHI) given to pregnant patients. Dental hygienists provided this supplemental education and administered Saliva-Check Mutans (SCM) tests to pregnant patients (n = 188) in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) settings. Patients reported their self-perceived understanding of the relationship between oral bacteria and dental disease and returned postdelivery to receive a second SCM test and follow-up questionnaire (n = 47).

Maternal health and diet can have important consequences for offspring nutrition and metabolic health. During lactation, signals are communicated from the mother to the infant through milk via macronutrients, hormones, and bioactive molecules. In this study we designed experiments to probe the mother-milk-infant triad in the condition of normal maternal health and upon exposure to high fat diet (HFD) with or without concurrent metformin exposure.
