Background Preeclampsia, a leading cause of maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity, is characterized by an increase in S-nitrosylated proteins and reactive oxygen species, suggesting a pathophysiologic role for dysregulation in nitrosylation and nitrosative stress. Methods and Results Here, we show that mice lacking S-nitrosoglutathione reductase (), a denitrosylase regulating protein S-nitrosylation, exhibit a preeclampsia phenotype, including hypertension, proteinuria, renal pathology, cardiac concentric hypertrophy, decreased placental vascularization, and fetal growth retardation. Reactive oxygen species, NO, and peroxynitrite levels are elevated.

Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is adjusted for Black race in commonly used formulas. This has potential implications for access to simultaneous liver-kidney transplantation (SLKT) as qualifying criteria rely on eGFR. We performed a retrospective study of United Network for Organ Sharing national transplant registry data between February 28, 2002, and March 31, 2019, to evaluate the proportion of Black patients who would be reclassified as meeting SLKT criteria (as defined per current policies) if race adjustment were removed from 2 prominent eGFR equations (Modification of Diet in Renal Disease-4 [MDRD-4] and Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration [CKD-EPI]).

However, given that changes in the brain that lead to cognitive decline begin decades before the onset of symptoms, understanding the mechanisms by which modifiable cardiovascular factors are associated with brain health in midlife is critical and can lead to the development of strategies to promote and maintain brain health as we age. Methods and Results In 501 middle-aged (aged 40-65 years) adult participants of the BBHI (Barcelona Brain Health Initiative), we found differential associations among cardiorespiratory fitness, cardiovascular risk, and cognition and cortical thickness.

Positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) may be critical in identifying thyroid involvement by MCL and pursuing further work up of the suspicious thyroid lesions, irrespective of the thyroid function tests.

With advances in computing and information technology, large health care research databases are becoming increasingly accessible to investigators across the world. These rich, population-level data sources can serve many purposes, such as to generate "real-world evidence," to enhance disease phenotyping, or to identify unmet clinical needs, among others. This is of particular relevance to the study of patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD), a socioeconomically and clinically heterogeneous population that is frequently under-represented in clinical trials.

Background Although beta-blockers are recommended following myocardial infarction (MI), the benefits of long-term treatment have not been established. The study's aim was to evaluate beta-blocker efficacy by dose in 1-year post-MI survivors. Methods and Results The OBTAIN (Outcomes of Beta-Blocker Therapy After Myocardial Infarction) registry included 7057 patients with acute MI, with 6077 one-year survivors.

We aimed to examine the race-ethnic and sex differences in door-to-CT (DTCT) ≤25 minutes in the FSR (Florida Stroke Registry). Methods and Results Data were collected from 2010 to 2018 for 63 265 patients with acute ischemic stroke from the FSR and secondary analysis was performed on 15 877 patients with intravenous tissue plasminogen activator-treated ischemic stroke.

For patients suffering from allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA), CF should be at the top of the differential diagnosis.

With a rising burden of cirrhosis surgeries, understanding risk factors for postoperative mortality is more salient than ever. The role of baseline frailty has not been assessed in this context. We evaluated the association between patient frailty and postoperative risk among diverse patients with cirrhosis and determined if frailty improves prognostication of cirrhosis surgical risk scores.

This article explores those differences and highlights the importance of understanding guideline-based lipid management to improve patient care and reduce the risk of clinical atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

In transplant candidates, frailty predicts wait-list mortality and posttransplant outcomes. However, the impact of frailty on ACLF development and mortality is unknown.

Background Right ventricular systolic dysfunction (RVSD) is a known risk factor for adverse outcome in surgical aortic valve replacement. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), on the other hand, has been shown to be either beneficial or have no effect on right ventricular systolic function. However, the prognostic significance of RVSD on TAVR has not been clearly determined.
