Harvard/MGH Center on Genomics, Vulnerable Populations, and Health Disparities, Department of Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts Boston, Massachusetts (Dr Isehunwa); Division of Health Systems Management and Policy, University of Memphis School of Public Health, Memphis (Drs Dobalian and Ahn); Division of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Environmental Health, University of Memphis School of Public Health, Memphis (Mr Relyea); and Department of Health Policy, Management & Leadership, West Virginia University School of Public Health, Morgantown (Dr Carlton).

The objectives of this study were to examine the relationships between local health department (LHD) and nonprofit hospital collaboration around community health needs assessment (CHNA), levels of collaboration, and selected community health outcomes. Data were obtained from multiple sources including the National Profile of Local Health Departments. Results showed that high levels of LHD-hospital collaboration around CHNA were associated with lower self-reported poor or fair health, lower years of potential life lost per 100 000 population, and lower premature age-adjusted mortality per 100 000 population.

Given a fast-growing aging population in South Korea, the prevalence of cognitive impairment in elderly is increasing. Despite growing evidence of air pollution exposure as one of the risk factors for declining cognition, few studies have been conducted on gender difference in the relation of cognitive function associated with outdoor air pollution. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect modification of gender difference in the association between cognitive function and air pollutant exposure (PM, PM, and NO).

The purpose of this study is to identify factors influencing patient preferences for communication from the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) during natural disasters. The 37-question, probability-based survey collected data from 2,264 VA users living in the Northeast US logistic regression analyses were conducted for top four modalities, and age was identified as the most important predictor of communication preferences. The findings suggest that the use of multiple modalities, such as telephone, television, radio, text, and email is necessary to successfully disseminate information and effectively reach all VA patients in the event of large-scale emergencies.

This paper reviews the implementation of the UNITE for Better Health Outcomes Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Award project using Mullins and colleagues' Framework for Meaningfully Engaging Patients in Patient Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) and the advantages and disadvantages of this framework. We combine Mullins' framework with the ten themes for guiding future studies in PCOR also developed by Mullins' research group. We interviewed patient stakeholders at the end of the engagement award and include patient stakeholder perspectives of how well we performed each of these steps.

Introduction: Most interventions aiming to promote leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) at population level showed small or null effects. Approaching the problem from a systems science perspective may shed light on the reasons for these results. We developed an agent-based model to explore how the interactions between psychological attributes and built and social environments may lead to the emergence and evolution of LTPA patterns among adults.
