Background: There has been a resurgence of research into the potential therapeutic benefits of psychedelics for neuropsychiatric disorders. Classic psychedelics, such as psilocybin, exert complex effects on higher cognitive functions such as perception and awareness, but their impact on motor function remains unexplored. Moreover, there is a theoretical rationale for using psychedelics to promote motor retraining in certain neuropsychiatric conditions associated with motor dysfunction.

Background: Obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are associated with alterations in testosterone concentrations. While evidence indicates that aerobic training can influence testosterone in healthy populations or females with hyperandrogenism, its impact in individuals with obesity or T2D remains unclear. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate whether aerobic training can influence circulating testosterone concentrations in individuals with obesity or T2D.

Purpose: Prenatal exposure to antiseizure medications (ASMs) has been associated with an increased risk of major malformations and neurodevelopmental disorders, with the latter being mainly associated with valproate (VPA). Our aim was to compare neurocognitive outcome at age 6-7 years in children exposed prenatally to lamotrigine (LTG), carbamazepine (CBZ), valproate (VPA) or levetiracetam (LEV) monotherapy.
Methods: Eligible mother-child pairs were identified from the observational prospective multinational EURAP cohort study.

A variety of terms, such as "antiepileptic," "anticonvulsant," and "antiseizure" have been historically applied to medications for the treatment of seizure disorders. Terminology is important because using terms that do not accurately reflect the action of specific treatments may result in a misunderstanding of their effects and inappropriate use. The present International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) position paper used a Delphi approach to develop recommendations on English-language terminology applicable to pharmacological agents currently approved for treating seizure disorders.

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is highly prevalent within the Indigenous Australian community. Novel glucose monitoring technology offers an accurate approach to glycaemic management, providing real-time information on glucose levels and trends. The acceptability and feasibilility of this technology in Indigenous Australians with T2DM has not been investigated.

Background: Testosterone replacement therapy is known to improve sexual function in men younger than 40 years with pathological hypogonadism. However, the extent to which testosterone alleviates sexual dysfunction in older men and men with obesity is unclear, despite the fact that testosterone is being increasingly prescribed to these patient populations. We aimed to evaluate whether subgroups of men with low testosterone derive any symptomatic benefit from testosterone treatment.

Objectives: Malnutrition, particularly protein insufficiency, is common in institutionalised older adults and increases morbidity, mortality, and costs. We aimed to determine whether 12 months supplementation using high-protein foods (milk, cheese, yoghurt) prevents malnutrition in older adults.
Design: Cluster randomised control study.

Epilepsy genetics is a rapidly developing field, in which novel disease-associated genes, novel mechanisms associated with epilepsy, and precision medicine approaches are continuously being identified. In the past decade, advances in genomic knowledge and analysis platforms have begun to make clinical genetic testing accessible for, in principle, people of all ages with epilepsy. For this reason, the Genetics Commission of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) presents this update on clinical genetic testing practice, including current techniques, indications, yield of genetic testing, recommendations for pre- and post-test counseling, and follow-up after genetic testing is completed.

Background: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have higher rates of diabetes and its complications than non-Aboriginal people. Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative is the major primary healthcare provider for Aboriginal people in the Greater Shepparton region.
Aims: To evaluate the baseline metabolic parameters and presence of diabetes complications in people with type 2 diabetes attending Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative in 2017 and compare it with other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studies and Australian specialist diabetes services.

Background: Testosterone is the standard treatment for male hypogonadism, but there is uncertainty about its cardiovascular safety due to inconsistent findings. We aimed to provide the most extensive individual participant dataset (IPD) of testosterone trials available, to analyse subtypes of all cardiovascular events observed during treatment, and to investigate the effect of incorporating data from trials that did not provide IPD.
Methods: We did a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials including IPD.

Febrile seizures represent the most common type of pathological brain activity in young children and are influenced by genetic, environmental and developmental factors. In a minority of cases, febrile seizures precede later development of epilepsy. We conducted a genome-wide association study of febrile seizures in 7635 cases and 83 966 controls identifying and replicating seven new loci, all with P < 5 × 10-10.

Objective: To explore the impact of psychiatric comorbidities on all-cause mortality in adults with epilepsy from a cohort of patients admitted for video-EEG monitoring (VEM) over 2 decades.
Methods: A retrospective medical record audit was conducted on 2,709 adults admitted for VEM and diagnosed with epilepsy at 3 Victorian comprehensive epilepsy programs from 1995 to 2015. A total of 1,805 patients were identified in whom the record of a clinical evaluation by a neuropsychiatrist was available, excluding 27 patients who died of a malignant brain tumor known at the time of VEM admission.

Background And Objectives: Patients with locally advanced or metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (A-PDAC) are not candidates for surgical resection and are often offered palliative chemotherapy. The ready availability of a safe and effective tumor sampling technique to provide material for both diagnosis and comprehensive genetic profiling is critical for informing precision medicine in A-PDAC, thus potentially increasing survival. The aim of this study is to examine the feasibility and benefits of routine comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) of A-PDAC using EUS-FNA material.

Unlabelled: Little is known about factors that lead to excess mortality post-fracture. This study demonstrated that 5-year mortality is lower in older adults who recovered to their pre-fracture health-related quality of life (HRQoL) at 12-months compared to those who did not recover. Our results highlight the importance of post-fracture interventions known to improve HRQoL.

Unlabelled: In this study of 695 Australian older adults (aged ≥50 years), we found that men and women had a similar trajectory of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) recovery following fragility fracture at any skeletal site. These results provide us with critical knowledge that improves our understanding of health outcomes post-fracture.
Introduction: Mortality is higher in men than that in women following a fragility fracture, but it is unclear whether recovery of patient-reported outcomes such as health-related quality of life (HRQoL) differs between sexes.

Objective: To assess whether the risk of epilepsy is higher in offspring of mothers with epilepsy than in offspring of fathers with epilepsy.
Methods: In a prospective population-based register study, we considered all singletons born in Denmark between 1981 and 2016 (N = 1,754,742). From the Danish National Patient Register since 1977, we identified epilepsy diagnoses in all study participants and their family members.

Objectives: To determine the best way to intervene for ureteric stones which still require treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic, with respect to infection control. In this setting, in which resources are constrained, extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (SWL) has prima facie advantages over ureteroscopy (URS). It is also necessary to also consider posttreatment resource consumption in regards to complications and repeat procedures.
