Background: Patients with advanced cancer experience many symptoms and needs requiring a Palliative Care Intervention (PCI). Identifying gaps between needs for PCIs and experienced delivery may improve health care, furthermore the association of gaps with quality indicators (QI). The multicentre Romanian (RO)-Swiss (CH) reality map study implemented a novel protocol based on needs concepts and culturally adapted quality indicators (QI).

Infective spondylodiscitis (ISD), the infection of vertebral bodies and surrounding tissues, is a rare complication with major impact on the long-term survival of hemodialysis (HD) patients. Although the most frequent etiology is , identifying these pathogens in blood cultures and biopsy cultures is often difficult. This paper aims to present suitable antibiotic combinations for the treatment of these patients, which is usually challenging in the case of an unidentified pathogen.

Objective: In patients undergoing plastic surgery, to identify specific risk factors for anaemia and use of blood products, and assess their impact on patient outcome.
Method: For this retrospective study, data were analysed from patients who attended the Plastic Surgery Department at our hospital over a three-year period (2018 to 2020). Adult patients who presented with traumatic injuries, oncologic patients who underwent reconstructive procedures, and patients with soft tissue infections (STIs) who required plastic surgery for tissue coverage were included.

Stroke is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Treatment of this pathology is still under development and its risk factors remain to be determined. Therefore, we aim to determine the role of interleukin-1 beta in atherosclerotic lesions of the internal carotid artery as a risk factor for stroke and the role of this biomarker in stroke prognosis.

Background: Blood transfusions are essential to treating anaemia of burn injuries. It has recently been observed that patients with non-major burns < 20%TBSA may also develop anaemia requiring transfusion of blood products. Due to the morbidity and mortality rate associated with blood transfusions better understanding of risk factors may guide clinical practices to improve patient care.

All endoscopic procedures are invasive and carry risk. Accordingly, all endoscopists should involve the patient in the decision-making process about the most appropriate endoscopic procedure for that individual, in keeping with a patient's right to self-determination and autonomy. Recognition of this has led to detailed guidelines on informed consent for endoscopy in some countries, but in many no such guidance exists; this may lead to variations in care and exposure to risk of litigation.

The present pilot study investigates the blood biochemical changes induced by hemp seeds in rats with diabetes. The composition of industrial hemp seeds, antioxidant activity, identification and quantification of phenols and fatty acids from hemp oil were determined. The Wistar adult rats used in the experiment were divided into three groups ( = 6) and kept under standard conditions.

The status of predictive biomarkers in metastatic colorectal cancer is currently underdeveloped. Our study aimed to investigate the predictive value of six circulating exosomal miRNAs derived from plasma (miR-92a-3p, miR-143-3p, miR-146a-5p, miR-221-3p, miR-484, and miR-486-5p) for chemosensitivity, resistance patterns, and survival. Thirty-one metastatic colorectal cancer patients were selected before receiving first-line irinotecan- or oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy.

Background: Stroke is the main cause of disability and exitus worldwide. The prediction of mortality of this pathology represents a major challenge. More than that, the infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus is a challenge for every clinician worldwide, and hypercoagulability is one of its biggest concerns that can lead to stroke.

Background: Percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale (PFO) is conventionally performed under continuous transesophageal echocardiographic (TEE) guidance. We aimed to evaluate whether a simplified procedural approach, including pure fluoroscopy-guidance and final TEE control, as well as an aimed 'next-day-discharge' is comparable with the conventional TEE-guided procedure in terms of periprocedural and intermediate-term outcomes.
Methods: All patients who underwent a PFO closure at our center between 2010 and 2022 were retrospectively included.

6-pyruvoyl tetrahydropterin synthase deficiency (PTPSD) is a rare neurometabolic disease that can be diagnosed in newborn screening (NBS) and is part of the family of tetrahydrobiopterin deficiency disorders (BH4Ds). It is essential to diagnose and treat this disease early to prevent permanent neurological damage secondary to this neurotransmitter disorder. We present the first two cases of PTPSD in Romania that were genetically confirmed and treated late.

Background And Purpose: SIOP Europe's QUARTET project launched in 2016; aiming to improve access to high-quality radiotherapy for children and adolescents treated within clinical trials across Europe. The aim of this report is to present the profile of institutions participating in six QUARTET-affiliated trials and a description of the initial individual case review (ICR) outcomes.
Methods: This is a two-part analysis.
Romania has one of the highest incidences of stroke and one of the highest mortality rates in Europe. The mortality rate due to treatable causes is also very high and is associated with the lowest public spending on healthcare in the European Union. Nonetheless, significant achievements in acute stroke care have been made in Romania in the last 5 years, most notably the increase of the national thrombolysis rate from 0.

In an effort to refine transcatheter vascular interventions, radial artery access has moved more distally at the anatomical snuffbox. Here, more challenges appear as the artery is smaller, more angulated, and more difficult to palpate. Including ultrasound guidance as a mandatory step during puncture may encourage more operators to switch to this approach.

The aim of this study was to biomechanically assess the behavior of apical neuro-vascular bundles (NVB) and dental pulp employing Tresca, Von Mises, Pressure, S1 and S3 failure criterions in a gradual periodontal breakdown under orthodontic movements. Additionally, it was to assess the accuracy of failure criteria, correlation with the maximum hydrostatic pressure (MHP), and the amount of force safe for reduced periodontium. Based on cone-beam computed tomography, 81 3D models of the second lower premolar were subjected to 0.

Myopericytoma is a rare vessel wall tumor, a subtype of hemangiopericytoma that usually develops subcutaneously. Intravascular myopericytoma is a rarer subtype, with only few cases reported in the literature and even fewer with imaging modalities included. We report the case of a 36-year-old man who was referred to our institution with a painless, palpable mass in the right arm and was evaluated with MRI, grey-scale and Doppler-mode ultrasound.
