dl-3-n-butylphthalide (dl-NBP) is a powerful antioxidant compound with profound neuroprotective effects in stroke and brain injury. However, its role in Parkinson's disease (PD) is not well known. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the key factors in precipitating PD like symptoms in civilians and particularly in military personnel.

Sleep deprivation (SD) is common in military personnel engaged in combat operations leading to brain dysfunction. Military personnel during acute or chronic SD often prone to traumatic brain injury (TBI) indicating the possibility of further exacerbating brain pathology. Several lines of evidence suggest that in both TBI and SD alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels decreases in plasma and brain.

Context: Several studies have addressed the impact of sarcopenia on various health outcomes. As the most critical issue is the early identification of individuals, a short screening tool may help clinicians to simply test for sarcopenia and start early management of the disease. Recently, a simple questionnaire, Sarc-F was provided that may adequately realize this aim.

Fibrosis is a recognized risk factor for development of heart failure and arrythmias and is usually detected by cardiac magnetic resonance or endomyocardial biopsy. Collagen type I and type III are major components of the collagen network, and the assessment of their derived biomarkers could serve as estimate of the myocardial fibrotic content.

Psoriasis vulgaris is a complex immune-mediated disorder that manifests as a chronic skin disorder, characterized by well-circumscribed inflammatory, erythematous plaques. In this case report, we present a patient with generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) who presented to the nephrology department with rapidly progressive decline in renal function. The diagnosis of GPP was made a month ago, secondary to a coagulase-negative staphylococcal superinfection.

Cryptosporidiosis is currently recognized worldwide as a leading cause of moderate to severe diarrhea. In Europe, large water- and foodborne outbreaks have been reported, highlighting the widespread distribution of the parasite and its important health impact. Surveillance networks have been progressively set up and the aim of this study was to present recent epidemiological data obtained in France from 2017 to 2019 by the National Reference Center-Expert Laboratory of cryptosporidiosis (Centre National de Référence-Laboratoire Expert cryptosporidioses CNR-LE).

A Delphi expert consensus panel proposed that fulfilling ≥1 of the '5-2-1 criteria' (≥five-times daily oral levodopa use, ≥two daily hours with 'Off' symptoms or ≥one daily hour with troublesome dyskinesia) suggests advanced Parkinson's disease (PD). DUOdopa/Duopa in Patients with Advanced PD - a GLobal OBservational Study Evaluating Long-Term Effectiveness (DUOGLOBE) - is a single-arm, postmarketing, observational, long-term effectiveness study of levodopa-carbidopa intestinal gel (LCIG) for advanced PD. This 6-month interim analysis (n = 139) affirms that most (98%) enrolled patients fulfill ≥1 of the 5-2-1 criteria.

Development and regulatory approval of psychotropic drugs targets individuals with syndromes described in the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). This helps drug developers and regulators to communicate with prescribers, and prescribers to match a specific psychotropic with the individual patient(s) most likely to benefit from it. However, this practice has been criticized on the grounds that DSM syndromes are too heterogenous biologically, and the effects of psychotropics are too nonspecific to allow for an effective match.

The large number of pharmacological agents available to treat type 2 diabetes (T2D) makes choosing the optimal drug for any given patient a complex task. Because newer agents offer several advantages, whether and when sulphonylureas (SUs) should still be used to treat T2D is controversial. Published treatment guidelines and recommendations should govern the general approach to diabetes management.

Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is one the most common intracranial tumors discovered by Burns (1800) and Abernethy (1804) based on gross morphology of the autopsied material and referred to as "medullary sarcoma" and later "fungus medullare" (Abernethy, 1804; Burns, 1800). Virchow in 1863 was the first German pathologist using histomorphological techniques discovered that GBM is a tumor of glial origin. Virchow (1863/65) also then used the term Glioma for the first time and classified as low-grade glioma and high-grade glioma very similar to that of today according to World health organization (WHO) classification (Jellinger, 1978; Virchow, 1863/65).

Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is a hematological malignancy characterized by the excessive proliferation of myeloid progenitors. In the case of CML, these extracellular vesicles (EVs) were shown to communicate with hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, myeloid derived suppressor cells and endothelial cells determining a beneficial microenvironment for the CML clone. Moreover, as these EVs are marked through BCR-ABL1, they were shown to be useful in clinical research in determining the grade of molecular remission with further studies being needed to determine if they are better or worse at predicting CML relapse.

Little is known about the association between specific primary lymph node (LN) sites and the risk of developing second primary cancers in Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) patients. To fill this knowledge gap, we used the multiple primary standardized incidence ratio function of the SEER*stat program to explore such an association for multiple latency periods. Several SPCs occurred at various time points following different primary LN presentations of HL.

Early diagnosis based on screening is recognized as one of the most efficient ways of mitigating cancer-associated morbidity and mortality. Therefore, reliable but cost-effective methodologies are needed. By using a portable Raman spectrometer, a small and easily transportable instrument, the needs of modern diagnosis in terms of rapidity, ease of use and flexibility are met.

Research on heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP) and blood pressure (BP) during specific training stages is less common in endurance athletes, whereas resting BP and HR are less studied in relationship to HR. In the current study, the objective was to conduct a medium-term HR, BP and MAP analysis while tracking individual training outcomes. The study was conducted during the 2017-2018 season, over 43 days and 1033 km of training volume, on 12 competitive male cross-country ski athletes.
