dl-3-n-butylphthalide (dl-NBP) is a powerful antioxidant compound with profound neuroprotective effects in stroke and brain injury. However, its role in Parkinson's disease (PD) is not well known. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the key factors in precipitating PD like symptoms in civilians and particularly in military personnel.

Sleep deprivation (SD) is common in military personnel engaged in combat operations leading to brain dysfunction. Military personnel during acute or chronic SD often prone to traumatic brain injury (TBI) indicating the possibility of further exacerbating brain pathology. Several lines of evidence suggest that in both TBI and SD alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels decreases in plasma and brain.

Depression among ethnic minority elderly in the Central Highlands, Vietnam.

This cross-sectional study is to examine the prevalence of depression and associated factors among 110 ethnic minority elderly in Kon Tum city, Vietnam. Depression was assessed using 30-items Geriatric Depression Scale. Multivariate linear regression analysis was employed to identify factors associated with depression.

The pro-fibrotic milieu, as the result of the extracellular matrix remodeling, is a central feature in the pathophysiology of heart disease and contributes to its high morbidity and mortality. Fibrosis is a recognized risk factor for development of heart failure and arrythmias and is usually detected by cardiac magnetic resonance or endomyocardial biopsy. Collagen type I and type III are major components of the collagen network, and the assessment of their derived biomarkers could serve as estimate of the myocardial fibrotic content.

A Case Report of Generalized Pustular Psoriasis Associated With IgA Nephropathy.

Psoriasis vulgaris is a complex immune-mediated disorder that manifests as a chronic skin disorder, characterized by well-circumscribed inflammatory, erythematous plaques. In this case report, we present a patient with generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) who presented to the nephrology department with rapidly progressive decline in renal function. The diagnosis of GPP was made a month ago, secondary to a coagulase-negative staphylococcal superinfection.

Epidemiology of Cryptosporidiosis in France from 2017 to 2019.

Cryptosporidiosis is currently recognized worldwide as a leading cause of moderate to severe diarrhea. In Europe, large water- and foodborne outbreaks have been reported, highlighting the widespread distribution of the parasite and its important health impact. Surveillance networks have been progressively set up and the aim of this study was to present recent epidemiological data obtained in France from 2017 to 2019 by the National Reference Center-Expert Laboratory of cryptosporidiosis (Centre National de Référence-Laboratoire Expert cryptosporidioses CNR-LE).

Application of the '5-2-1' screening criteria in advanced Parkinson's disease: interim analysis of DUOGLOBE.

Eplet incompatibility appears to be a better predictor of the de novo appearance of DSA post-Tx than HLA antigen matching in adults. We evaluated the HLA Matchmaker® software (version 2.1) in our pediatric cohort to predict the appearance of DSA post-Tx.

Basic knowledge on BCR-ABL1-positive extracellular vesicles.

Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is a hematological malignancy characterized by the excessive proliferation of myeloid progenitors. In the case of CML, these extracellular vesicles (EVs) were shown to communicate with hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, myeloid derived suppressor cells and endothelial cells determining a beneficial microenvironment for the CML clone. Moreover, as these EVs are marked through BCR-ABL1, they were shown to be useful in clinical research in determining the grade of molecular remission with further studies being needed to determine if they are better or worse at predicting CML relapse.

Cryptosporidiosis after treatment with fingolimod: a case report and pharmacovigilance review.

Background: Cryptosporidium sp. are common intracellular parasites responsible of severe diarrhea in T-cell-immunocompromised patients. We report the first case of a woman who contracted cryptosporidiosis after treatment with fingolimod, a drug labeled for multiple sclerosis and responsible for marked lymphopenia.

Primary lymph node sites in Hodgkin lymphoma and the risk of second primary cancers: a population-based study.

Little is known about the association between specific primary lymph node (LN) sites and the risk of developing second primary cancers in Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) patients. To fill this knowledge gap, we used the multiple primary standardized incidence ratio function of the SEER*stat program to explore such an association for multiple latency periods. Several SPCs occurred at various time points following different primary LN presentations of HL.

Early diagnosis based on screening is recognized as one of the most efficient ways of mitigating cancer-associated morbidity and mortality. Therefore, reliable but cost-effective methodologies are needed. By using a portable Raman spectrometer, a small and easily transportable instrument, the needs of modern diagnosis in terms of rapidity, ease of use and flexibility are met.

The involvement of proinflammatory interleukins (IL) in diabetic kidney disease of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients was studied in relation to a particular miRNA profile. A total of 117 patients with Type 2 DM and 11 controls were enrolled in a case series study. Serum and urinary ILs and miRNAs were assessed.

Individual Adaptation in Cross-Country Skiing Based on Tracking during Training Conditions.

Research on heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP) and blood pressure (BP) during specific training stages is less common in endurance athletes, whereas resting BP and HR are less studied in relationship to HR. In the current study, the objective was to conduct a medium-term HR, BP and MAP analysis while tracking individual training outcomes. The study was conducted during the 2017-2018 season, over 43 days and 1033 km of training volume, on 12 competitive male cross-country ski athletes.
