Introduction: tuberculosis (TB) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) remain major public health threats globally and worse when they co-exist in susceptible individuals. The study examined TB treatment outcomes and their predictive factors among people living with HIV (PLHIVs).
Methods: a review of TB/HIV co-infected patients who had TB treatments across comprehensive antiretroviral therapy (ART) sites with ≥500 patients was conducted in seven United States of America President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)-supported States in Nigeria.

Background: Cancer chemotherapy with doxorubicin (DOX) has been linked to serious testicular damage and spermatotoxicity due to the induction of oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis. Thus, the current study was carried out to assess the potential ameliorative impact of diosmin, an antioxidant drug, against DOX-mediated spermatoxicity and testicular injury in rats.
Material And Methods: In the experimental protocol, rats were grouped into 4: Group 1 received vehicle and saline for 8 weeks while group 2 received diosmin and saline concomitantly for 8 weeks.
Objective: Aluminum is a widely used metal in homes and industries. Xylopia aethiopica is an important medicinal plant with antioxidant properties. The objective of this study is to investigate the ameliorative potential of Xylopia aethiopica on aluminum-induced ovarian toxicity in Wistar rat.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic disorder that involves inflammation. This study was carried out to examine the anti-inflammatory effect of the methanol extract of Brideliaferrugineastem barkinAcetic acid-induced ulcerative colitis inmaleWistarrats. Twenty-four rats were randomly divided into 6 groups of 4 animals each, colitis was thereafter induced by intrarectal administration of4% (v/v)Aceticacidin all except group 1, which received distilled water.

A smart artificial intelligent system (SAIS) for Acinetobacter density (AD) enumeration in waterbodies represents an invaluable strategy for avoidance of repetitive, laborious, and time-consuming routines associated with its determination. This study aimed to predict AD in waterbodies using machine learning (ML). AD and physicochemical variables (PVs) data from three rivers monitored via standard protocols in a year-long study were fitted to 18 ML algorithms.

Background: There has been improvement in the overall outcomes of people living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLWHIV) following the advent and use of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). However, there is an increased risk of nephrotoxicity from using HAART in PLWHIV as their life expectancy improves. This study assessed and compared renal dysfunction among PLWHIV on tenofovir-based and non-tenofovir-based HAART.

Background: Hypertension is a common cardiovascular risk factor associated with adverse renal and cardiovascular outcomes in chronic kidney disease patients. Significant reduction in these adverse outcomes could be achieved through adequate blood pressure control in those with hypertension. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of poor blood pressure control and associated factors among chronic kidney disease patients with hypertension in a Nigerian tertiary hospital.

Introduction: the increasing prevalence of diabetes (DM) worldwide has resulted in an increase in the morbidity and mortality of DM. This burden is as a result of the development of the chronic complications associated with it. This study determined the burden of occurrence of microvascular and macrovascular complications of subjects with type 2 diabetes attending the out -patient clinic of a tertiary hospital in south west Nigeria.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a public health concern and the second most common type of cancer among men and women causing a significant mortality. Biomarkers closely linked to the disease morbidity could holds potential as diagnostic and/or prognostic biomarker for the disease. This review provides an overview of recent advances in the search for colorectal cancer biomarkers through genomics and proteomics according to clinical function and application.

The novel outbreak of Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) and the ensuing global pandemic in 2020, has brought with it a number of unprecedented side effects. This resulted in a number of measures, including state-mandated lockdowns, as well as restrictions to economic and social activity. The direct effects of these measures were felt in the economy, as well as in key institutions within society; however, there were also indirect results from these changes.

Background: Different parts of Psidium guajava are consumed as food and used for medicinal purposes around the world. Although studies have reported their antiproliferative effects via different biochemical mechanisms, their modulatory effects on epigenetic modification of DNA molecules via histone deacetylases (HDACs) are largely unknown.
Objective: This study was carried out to investigate the histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) and histone deacetylase 10 (HDAC10) binding propensity of guava-derived compounds, using in silico methods, in other to identify compounds with HDAC inhibitory potentials.

Malaria, caused mainly by Plasmodium falciparum among other Plasmodium species, is one of the main causes of death from parasitic diseases. Malaria is still a health problem mainly because of the cost of effective antimalarial drugs and the growing parasite resistance to conventional antimalarial drugs, making a great proportion of the people in malaria endemic countries dependent on plants for its treatment. Corollary, a large number of the rural populations consume antimalarial herbal preparations in large or excessive quantities despite the fact that it has been reported that some of them could cause male-factor infertility, a growing global health concern.

Background: Recent studies have observed overexpression of histone deacetylase 7 (HDAC7) and overactivity of extracellular signal-regulated kinases 1/2 (ERK1/2) in many tumors; therefore, pharmacological interventions to inhibit overexpression of HDAC7 and overactivity of ERK1/2 in cancerous cells holds great promise in cancer treatment. The promising anticancer properties of artemisinin and artemisinin-derivatives (ARTs) have been validated by various experimental reports, including advanced pre-clinical trials.
Objective: Our aim in this in silico study is to identify additional inhibitors of HDAC7, ERK1 and ERK2 as potential anticancer drug agents and provide insight into the molecular level of interactions of such ligands relative to known standards.

Deregulation of the normal cellular apoptotic function is a fundamental element in the etiology of most cancers and the anti-apoptotic B cell lymphoma 2 (BCL‑2) protein family is known to play crucial role in the regulation of this function. Overexpression of this protein family has been implicated in some cancers, such that agents that could inhibit their over-activity are now being explored for anticancer drug development. A number of studies have revealed the anticancer potential of -derived extracts and compounds.
